Type 2 Diabetes, Addiction, Depression, 130 Pounds—Gone in Three Years on a Plant-Based Diet!

My weight didn’t become a problem until I was about 24 years old, but I have always had an unhealthy relationship with food and a poor self-image. Unfortunately, those weren’t the only things I struggled with. I was also a drug addict and suffered from severe depression, and by the time I was 30 I had developed a severe fast food addiction and weighed 300 pounds. I basically never left my apartment except to go get fast food or drugs. I was never suicidal, but I also didn’t care about living anymore. I remember waking up one morning and just being sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. I called my father and asked for help with my addiction to Adderall (a prescription drug used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy).
I checked into rehab in August of 2012, and while I was there I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Interestingly enough, the diagnosis affected me more than coming to terms with my drug addiction did. Luckily, I had attended one of Rip Esselstyn’s Engine 2 Immersions a year or so prior to rehab, so I knew that I could reverse my diabetes with a plant-based diet. There and then, I made that my mission.
Once I left rehab, I moved into a sober living home in Santa Monica, California. While there, I put myself on a strict plant-strong diet and never cheated. I also started going to the gym four times a week. Within the first two months I had lost almost 40 pounds, and my blood sugar level had dropped from 300 to 120. What this showed me was that I am the one who changes my life! If I accept responsibility for my situation and do the necessary work to change it, Continue reading

Believe It or Not, Use Frozen Lemons and Say Goodbye to Diabetes, Tumors, Obesity!

Believe It or Not, Use Frozen Lemons and Say Goodbye to Diabetes, Tumors, Obesity!

Lemons are ones of the most beneficial fruits on the planet, and due to their countless health benefits and unique flavor and scent, they are added to various recipes.
Lemons are excellent for detoxification of the body, but when juiced, the lemon loses many of its nutrients and a great part of the medicinal potential.
On the other hand, freezing is a better option. The peel of the lemon strengthens the immune system, and offers numerous health properties, like regulating cholesterol, preventing cancer, treating bacterial infections, and destroying parasites and worms.
These are the health benefits of this miraculous fruit:
Prevention of asthma
Fighting inflammation
Detoxification of the kidneys and the liver
Boosting the immune system
Regulation of high blood pressure
Elimination of harmful bacteria
Treating depression and stress
Fighting cancer
The lemon juice is extremely high in vitamin C, while its rind is effective in eliminating toxins from the body. Studies have shown that the lemon peel actually contains 5 to 10 times more vitamins.
Decades ago, scientists examined the effects of lemon in the case of cancer. What they found was that these fruits eradicate malignant cells in several types of cancers, including lung, breast, and colon cancer.
What’s best about this all is that lemons, unlike chemotherapy, target only the cancerous cells, and do not affect the healthy ones.
According to Dr. Marilyn Glenville, a nutritionist, and expert on women’s health, the peels from various fruits can boost the immune system and support overall health. She also claims that smoo Continue reading

Diabetes and Blood Clots: 3 Things You Need to Know

Diabetes and Blood Clots: 3 Things You Need to Know

If you have diabetes, you're more likely to develop blood clotting - a dangerous condition where a vein can become blocked by "sticky" clumps of blood.
Spotted early, a blood clot can be treatable, yet blood clots can also travel to the lungs, heart or brain - which can cause heart attack, stroke or even death.
Since the symptoms of a blood clot may mimic other conditions, it's important to know what to look for and when to seek help.
1. Know your risk factors
There are a cluster of risk factors that make blood clotting more common: having a family history, smoking, surgery, long periods of inactivity (such as sitting on a plane or in a car) or cancer. Women may be more prone to blood clotting if they are pregnant or taking birth control pills.
Diabetes increases the risk of plaque buildup in the ateries, and the American Heart Association suggests that about 80 percent of people with diabetes die from clot-related causes.
In some cases, however, clots happen without the presence of any risk factors.
2. Pay attention to your legs and feet
Many blood clots start in the legs. Symptoms such as swelling, aching, tingling, redness or numbness may indicate the presence of a blood clot. Since these symptoms can also be indicative of diabetic neuropathy, it's important to pay close attention to your legs and feet, especially during long car or plane rides.
If you notice discoloration, swelling that can't be attributed to an injury, or difficulty walking, seek medical care immediately.
3. Take preventative measures
Blood clots aren't always preventable, but you can take steps to avo Continue reading

Miss. Lawmaker Suggests Woman Buy Daughter's Diabetes Meds After She Writes for Help

Miss. Lawmaker Suggests Woman Buy Daughter's Diabetes Meds After She Writes for Help

A Mississippi state representative suggested that a woman buy her family's diabetes medication after she wrote to him to ask for help with increasing difficulties obtaining Medicaid assistance.
Richland resident Nicole Nichols wrote to the Mississippi House of Representatives Monday morning to voice her concern that children with Type 1 diabetes "aren't getting the necessary diabetes supplies and meds they need to stay healthy."
"We have recently begun having a lot of problems with Medicaid/CHIPS coverage of the essential diabetes supplies needed, not only to keep our kids healthy, but to literally keep them alive," Nichols wrote to Mississippi lawmakers. "No parents should have to fight for so long for their child's essential medical supplies and medical needs when it's explicitly stated as a covered benefit."
Later that day, Mississippi State Rep. Jeffrey Guice, R-Ocean Springs, replied, "I am sorry for your problem. Have you thought about buying the supplies with money that you earn?"
The mother of two, whose 8-year-old daughter, Bella, has Type 1 diabetes, told ABC News she has been filled with "silent fury" since she received Guice's response. Two other state representatives responded to her email as well, but Guice's was the only negative one, she said.
Nichols posted the exchange to a Facebook page Living in the World of Test Strips, which provides community support for parents of children with Type 1 diabetes. This morning, she attended a special session at the Mississippi State Capitol, where Guice was in attendance, and spoke to several reporters about the problem Continue reading
