How To Get Rid Of Cellulite On Legs

How To Get Rid Of Cellulite On Legs

The two most frequent topics we get asked about here at Metabolic Effect are belly fat and lower body fat (specifically What Causes Cellulite). I have already written pretty extensively on the physiology of belly fat (You can read those blogs HERE, and HERE and also HERE). In this blog I want to attack the issue of lower body fat and address the “what causes cellulite and getting rid of cellulite” issues particularly. I can’t tell you how often I have been asked question regarding cellulite and the variety of ways I have been asked: What causes cellulite? How do you get rid of cellulite? And is it even possible to get rid of cellulite? Cellulite is really the combination of two factors, fat and collagen fibers. The problem is that this fat and collagen is a little different than the fat and collagen found on a man’s body and even different than fat found on different areas of the female physique. What causes cellulite? Compared to men, women have collagen fibers in their lower body that run vertically up and down like a picket fence. This straight up and down distribution of collagen fibers is the major reason females get cellulite and men don’t. (Estimates are 90% of women have some degree of cellulite compared to 10% of men.) The superficial collagen of men forms more of a mesh. If women have the picket fence distribution of collagen, men have the “chain link fence” distribution. Where women’s fibers run up and down, male fibers crisscross. This is important because the vertical distribution of female collagen fibers, more prevalent in the female lower body, form a sort of pocket in which fat cells then grow (see the picture above). As the fat cells grow in size they are essentially corralled in and packed tightly together by the collagen fibers. Pictu Continue reading >>

7 Key Facts About Getting Rid Of Cellulite

7 Key Facts About Getting Rid Of Cellulite

Over the years that I’ve been helping people deal with their weight and other issues – I’ve often been asked about how to get rid of cellulite. My standard answer has been “reverse the process that formed it in the first place” Which on the face of it seems pretty sensible though for many , that process happened over quite a long period of time. And really what they want is to be able to do, is get rid of it as quickly as possible. Yes diet will help a bit. Exercise will help a bit. But neither will get the smooth and sexy looking skin that the ladies remember they once had. Frankly, I’ve seen many claims for pills and potions, support pants and garments, loofars, rollers and massagers and many other weird, wacky and in my opinion down right daft – maybe even dangerous ways that supposedly get rid of cellulite. Strangely enough – none of these worked and up till only a short while ago, I did not have anything more to put forward. However that all changed recently and now I have seen something that I’m happy to suggest – more on that and the person behind it in a minute. (Or click Here if you can’t wait and just want to know what works). If you’ve tried any of these wacky things I’ve mentioned above, you know what I’m saying is the absolute truth. They are nothing but a total con as we’ll see. But before that, we need to ask the core question… Why don’t they work? And the main reason why they don’t work is because they are trying to treat the wrong problem! It’s as simple as that. Have you ever asked yourself the question… Just What is Cellulite? If we are to believe popular explanations, it is meant to be a special type of “fat gone wrong,” or a combination of fat, water, and “toxic wastes” that the body has failed to elim Continue reading >>

7 Realistic Ways To Get Rid Of Cellulite

7 Realistic Ways To Get Rid Of Cellulite

Cellulite happens. It’s a very common problem not only in women but in men as well. Cellulite doesn’t discriminate either. It affects the young and the old, the skinny and the non-skinny, and the fun and boring. The important thing to keep in mind about cellulite is that it’s just fat and therefore it is fixable. It just seems different than other fat because it pushes against the connective tissue causing the skin above it to pucker. You also don’t have to worry about it being harmful. To some people the worst thing it is, is unsightly. What Causes Cellulite It’s important to keep in mind that having cellulite doesn’t necessarily mean you are overweight because thin people get it as well. However, if you are overweight then losing weight can reduce cellulite. So what causes it? It can be a number of different things. These include: Poor diet Slow metabolism Lack of physical activity (couch potatoes) Hormone changes (for women this is usually decreased estrogen levels) Dehydration Thickness and color of skin If you want to get scientific about it, then the main cause of cellulite is believed to be a lack of blood flow to the affected region. This means that when circulation decreases, collagen levels decrease as well allowing the fat cells to enlarge. So when we say that cellulite is fat that pushes against the connective tissue another way to think about it is when the fat cells grow they push their way to the top of the skin as it becomes less elastic. Weak skin combined with large fat cells is a recipe for cellulite. If you are looking for a super quick “fix” to cellulite are light-skinned then you can apply self-tanner because cellulite tends to be less noticeable on darker skin. 7 Effective Ways to Get Rid of Cellulite Fast First, it’s important t Continue reading >>

Get Rid Of Cellulite Naturally

Get Rid Of Cellulite Naturally

Get Rid of Cellulite Naturally: Cellulite is one of the most unsightly things many individuals remark about their bodies. Research has indicated that hormones are the major player in the creation and elimination of cellulite. Evidence indicates that healthy lifestyle strategies can positively affect the hormone balance associated with cellulite. Cosmetic surgery is at an all-time high with over 1.5 million procedures performed in 2011. This included over 205,000 liposuction procedures. Many of these surgeries have focused on eliminating cellulite. However, the surgeries are not only dangerous but they never address the hormone imbalance that causes cellulite to begin with. Elevated Stress Hormones: According to research published in the Journal of European Academy of Dermatology July 2000 found cellulite can be caused by increased levels of stress hormone (1). The researchers found that individuals who had chronically elevated cortisol levels were much more likely to have cellulite accumulation. When the body senses it is in a state of chronic stress it will accumulate fat stores in preparation for times of famine that have accompanied times of stress throughout the history of mankind. This leads to the formation of cellulite. The key to removing cellulite naturally is to get rid of the causes of low-grade chronic stress in the body (2). Minimize Stress to Balance Hormones: There are three major stressors with our body’s natural hormone expression. The first major stress is mental/emotional and must be effectively addressed. Living in a state of fear is extremely destructive to human physiology. Fear drives stress hormones which utilize all the key resources in the body and increase fat storage. To minimize mental/emotional stress spend more time reconnecting with you Continue reading >>

You get rid of cellulite nutritionally, and with proper exercise… Let’s Talk a Little About What Causes It, And Then How To Get Rid of It… You can’t lose fat without eating fat? No, I’m not saying you need to go out and have a greasy hamburger. The answer lies in eating healthy fats and healthy oils. Watch my Private Video and discover the secrets to losing weight and keeping it off, FOREVER, and more importantly, discover how this process may improve the symptoms of or even reverse disease… Man-made fats known as hydrogenated or trans-fats are found in everything from processed foods to fast foods and everything in between. They consist of putting cheap oils, that were not good for you to begin with, and then they combine high heat and pressure for several hours, add hydrogen atoms, and what is left is a semi-solid unhealthy mess. This process creates low quality oils and fake butter substitutes, such as margarine. Because the food manufacturers now have a product that stores easier, hydrogenated oils are now used in all sorts of foods. These oils and fats have zero nutritional value because they cannot be assimilated by the human body. What happens is that these foreign substances start clogging arteries, cause cancer, diabetes, reproductive problems, including obesity, and clings it to your thighs. Always look at the labels and if it says, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, even poly-unsaturated oils, then don’t buy it! The body needs fat, but not this kind of fat. It needs fats from natural unadulterated sources, like fat from an Continue reading >>

7 Morning Rituals To Get Rid Of Pesky Cellulite

7 Morning Rituals To Get Rid Of Pesky Cellulite

If you’ve tried to get rid of cellulite you know just how resilient it can be. The trick is to establish daily habits that will eventually stop it from getting worse and send it in the opposite direction. Starting your day off right is key, and these morning rituals will provide results if they become a habit. 1. Drink Lemon Water Upon Waking This simple ritual carries with it some pretty big results, and is as easy as squeezing fresh lemon juice into some hot water and sipping it as you would a cup of tea. Be sure to use organic lemons for this, as well as purified water, or distilled water. It isn’t just your cellulite that is affected by this ritual, but the way your body is able to break down the food you’ll be eating throughout the day. You’re also getting a jumpstart on rehydrating the body after a night of sleep and no water intake. How it Helps: The lemon helps the body in a number of ways, and one of these ways is getting the blood to flow to your skin, and helping to carry waste out of the body. It will also help you strengthen your immune system thanks to the Vitamin C that the lemons contain. 2. Do Some Cellulite-Busting Exercises It may be hard to establish a morning exercise routine, but once you have it set as a habit you’ll feel strange if you go a morning without it. You may have heard that you can’t spot treat when it comes to losing weight, but with cellulite it’s all about building up some muscle underneath it to help break up the cellulite in that area. The backs of the thighs is one problem area that can lead to a lot of frustration. Try lunge kicks, which will help to tighten up your hamstrings and help you work out the kinks when done in the morning. Here’s a great targeted exercise video that you can incorporate into your morning Continue reading >>

I Have Developed Cellulite On A Ketogenic Diet. How Is It Possible To Gain Fat On This Diet?

I Have Developed Cellulite On A Ketogenic Diet. How Is It Possible To Gain Fat On This Diet?

This is a really good question - I would be frustrated too in your situation. I think there are several factors that may be playing in to the response your body is having: First, you mention you’re eating less than 20 net carbs per day (which is great!), but you don’t mention your other macros - protein and fat. Remember, Keto is a low carb, moderate protein, and high fat diet with daily targets for all three of these macronutrients. If you’re only counting your carbs, your other macros may be totally out of whack, which could explain why you’ve gained fat. On keto, you’ll find that some people focus on percentages for each of the three macros I’ve listed above (65%-75% fat, 20%-30% protein, and 5%-10% carbs), but I think it’s much easier to calculate exactly how much of each you should be eating each day by counting grams rather than trying to calculate percentages all day. So on keto, the recommended starting point for most people in grams for each of the macros is 20 net grams of carbs, 50–75 grams of protein for women/100–125 grams of protein for men, and at least a 1:1 up to a 1:2 ratio of protein to fat for everyone. But as I said, these numbers are simply starting points. Everyone is different and their bodies will react differently to any dietary change, so these numbers are not set in stone. I recommend trying to hit these targets when you first start keto and then adjusting them if necessary once you’ve been on the diet for a while to achieve maximum benefits. So make sure you’re tracking all three macros. If you haven’t been doing that, try starting to track and see what happens. If you have been tracking all three, ask yourself if you have been hitting the targets I suggested. One thing that can be a problem is getting too much protei Continue reading >>

Cellulite Is Curable: Here’s 3 Ways To Do So

Cellulite Is Curable: Here’s 3 Ways To Do So

You are not a victim to your genetics. The study of Epigenetics has proven that it is possible to turn on and off genetic predispositions via envrionment control. The word Epigenetic literally means “behind genetics”. The root word epi is derived of the Greek word opi, meaning behind. In other words, epigeneitcs is the study of the causative factors that are behind the manifestation of genetic expression. This includes things like our thoughts, emotions, environment and actions – all which have an effect on the way our genes express themselves, which can be either in the direction of disease or health. 1 2 So, as with any other “disease” or “disorder”, cellulite too is the result of chronic various stressors that accelerate the aging process. This means that it can be managed, and usually handled with simple means such as leading a more natural lifestyle, eliminating toxins from your mind, social life, diet and environment. As you will learn in a moment, cellulite is in the most basic sense, a symptom of poor health. When unhealthy, the body doesn’t digestion well and therefore poorly metabolizes (weak Qi), which results in poor detoxification and the accumulation of toxins, metabolic wastes and fluids. When these toxins have no where to go because the detoxification systems are impaired, they begin to store in fat cells in various places, including the connective tissue of your skin. So, you can eliminate cellulite just like you can eliminate any other imbalance of the body – improving overall digestive and metabolic function. There is no question of that. This isn’t 1907, we can test and measure performance with science and the results are in — poor lifestyle choices, succumbing the environment and weakness of the spirit will is the true cause of Continue reading >>

Whole 30 Wrap-up

Whole 30 Wrap-up

So my Whole 30 is over, and I promised you guys a wrap-up post of how it went. There were pros and cons to my experience, as I’m sure there were with you. I’d love to hear your experiences, thoughts and feelings about it too, so feel free to leave them in the comments! First off, let me say that I think the Whole 30 is an amazing program that really teaches you mindful eating – especially if you are eating the Standard American Diet (SAD) of over-processed, un-foods that make you sick rather than nourish you, as food should. The following thoughts are strictly my opinion, and I’m not about sugar coating it, so I’m going to give it to you straight. If you have a different opinion, I invite you to start that conversation in the comments – I’d love to hear it! I’ll start with what I loved about it. It can’t be said enough that the Whole 30 is awesome in the fact that I ate wholesome foods, and avoided additives and ingredients that could be harming my body. There is something so satisfying in knowing that, not to mention the health benefits that come with it. However, I really hated being accountable to the dogma of the program. Holly over at Holly Would If She Could (great blog, you should check it out!) made a statement in one of her posts during her Whole 30 that really resonated with me. “You’re not the boss of me Whole 30!!!!” That statement says everything I feel about the Whole 30. I hated that the Whole 30 didn’t celebrate food and how delicious it can be, even while being healthy for you. It felt like punishment to me in many ways. “You better not even TRY to make something delicious out of these ingredients or you are weak and a loser and BAD, BAD, BAD!!!!” Ok, what they actually say is this “…Do not try to shove your old, unheal Continue reading >>

So You Want To Know More About Keto?

So You Want To Know More About Keto?

Eat fat to burn fat and you don't need carbs. Read that line again. Memorize it. Let it become your mantra because that is truly what Keto is about. Sure, there are other guidelines to follow but that is truly the basis of the ketogenic lifestyle. My favorite part of Keto is that I always feel full and satisfied. That alone has helped me stick to it and its due largely to the high fat intake which keeps me both mentally and physically satiated. From a young age we have it ingrained in our heads that we need carbs for our bodies to function, if you've read anything about Keto you will already know that this is not entirely accurate. While our bodies are well adapted to converting and using carbs as glucose for energy, we also have the ability to convert and use fat as ketones for energy as well. The human body is a truly marvelous creation, imagine a car that can run on gas or water? That's the way I see it anyway, our body is capable of using its internal "computer" to change fuel sources. When our fuel source changes to ketones our metabolism does something incredible, it starts to use all our fat for energy. I'm not kidding, since our body burns our fat stores during ketosis, you begin to see crazy changes happening before your eyes. You know that problem spot you have, the one that you just can't get to go flat no matter how much dieting and exercise you do? Ya, well imagine that spot, gone! Seriously. You know that unspeakable cellulite? Also gone! It sounds too good to be true, but give it a month and you will see that I'm not making stuff up. Of course for great rewards one must exercise great self discipline. That means, for that first month of keto you should be SUPER on point about things. Seriously, be obsessive about it. Count and log every little thing you p Continue reading >>

My Experience With Ketogenic Diet

My Experience With Ketogenic Diet

I recently followed the Ketogenic diet (click on the link to learn more) for over 6 weeks and I wanted to give you guys my honest opinion and an overview of my own experience. It wasn’t my first time doing Keto, however it was different from the first and second time I tried it. They say 3rd time is a charm, and it sure was this time around. Our bodies are really good at adapting and the more you do something, whether it be exercise or diet, your body becomes better and more efficient at dealing with the situation. In this case, I have noticed a huge difference in the rate that my body adapted to the high fat diet and using fat as a main source of energy, in comparison to my past 2 trials. It felt like my body was telling me: “oh, are we doing this again? I remember, and I can do better this time”. It took me only 3 days to get into Ketosis, however I was really diligent and followed strictly the jump start rules, I have posted for you guys. The entire adaptation period took about 10 days, which is quite fast. Some people take as long as 3 weeks. These were the stages of my transformation to a burning fat for energy: The first 3 days I was peeing every 10 minutes like a 4 year old, and had to drink a lot of water not to become dehydrated. Some people experience headache during this time, but I was ready. I was drinking a lot of water, had salt if I started to feel tired (mostly in the form of home made chicken broth), and I supplemented with Pottasium and Magnesium. After the first 3 days I have already noticed an increase of energy that lasted the entire day. I didn’t feel like I wished I could take a nap during the afternoon, and despite how busy I was, I didn’t feel overwhelmed (we were in the process of moving into our new home, and I have a lot going on w Continue reading >>
