Created by Prüvit, Keto OS, which stands for Ketone Operating System, is a “revolutionary drink mix based on a proprietary ketone energy technology. It delivers advanced macro nutritionals and promotes optimized cellular regeneration, energy and longevity.”  Also known as the keto diet, KETO OS is a line of supplements that promise to turbocharge your metabolism and send your body into ketosis without resorting to the draconian no-carb, all-fat diet. The History of Ketones Known for centuries, it wasn’t until a hundred years ago that ketones (Beta-hydroxybutyrate) were used to treat seizures in kids with epilepsy. A “neuroprotective effect” was produced, which calms the nervous system. Soon researchers were exploring an expanded use of ketones to help with mental, emotional and cognitive health, according to Prüvit spokesperson Andra “Dr. Andy” Campitelli , a naturopathic doctor. I’ve gotten a crazy number of requests do this Pruvit Keto/OS review. Keto/OS is a new exogenous ketone supplement that people are using to lose weight, among other things. I found very little in terms of research on exogenous ketones in humans. Exogenous ketones have been studied a bit in rats, and no one has studied them in terms of weight loss in people or in rodents. The product Keto/OS has no research behind it either, so I decided to bite the bullet and put myself on it for a week to see what would happen. I hate using small studies as proof for anything, but in this case, I had no choice. It was totally an n=1. I also hate drinking disgusting things, but again, in this case I had no choice. Sigh. Before I talk about how that all went, let’s chat about ketones and how they work in your body. What are ketones? Ketones are the byproduct of fat metabolism. When you deprive your body of it’s favorite source of energy – glucose – it starts burning your fat for fuel. That’s the premise of the ketogenic diet: burn fat, use the ketones that result as energy. Staying on the ketogenic diet is tough for most people, but it can be done, and for most healthy people, it’s probably not harmful. Check with your doctor or dietitian before starting any diet. Can Keto//os Cause Negative Side Effects?
Although the use of exogenous ketones, such as KETO//OS, is quite safe, there are a few side effects that you may want to be aware of before you begin taking them. We know that ketones themselves can be a little bit dehydrating. So often one can lose minerals while taking them. When our body is depleted of minerals, the impact of that could result in fatigue, headache, or constipation. So if that’s your experience, then make sure that you are drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated. You may also want to consider replenishing your electrolytes with something like a bone broth or miso soup, just to help mitigate that effect. Often times, people will experience digestive upset. This is due to the ketones, or medium chain triglyceride (MCT) fats that you’ll see in the KETO//OS 2.1 supplement. These are the healthy fats that are derived from coconut oil. Those new to the ketone and MCT fats may experience the side effects because the body hasn’t used them before, and isn’t quite sure how to digest them effectively.
