Most people don't know that carb cycling is actually a form of ketogenic dieting. The ketogenic diet is a diet that is lower in carbohydrates, which makes our body convert more dietary fat and body fat in to keytones in the liver. Which it then goes on to use for energy. Like I've said in many of my videos the human body prefers to use carbs as its primary source of energy. You're body won't produce too many keytones on a high carbohydrate diet, because your body won't need extra energy from fat due to the fact that its getting its energy from the more preferred carbohydrates. The only way for our body to use more fat for energy is by not having its preferred source there all the time. Eliminating carbs completely, however can have many drawbacks on our health and well being. Protein, carbs, and fats are all important and necessary for our body. So in comes the cyclical ketogenic diet aka carb cycling and also known originally as the anabolic Diet. There are many different approaches to carb cycling, but the general idea is that At some points of the week you're going to have a high amount of carbohydrates, and at other points of the week you're going to have a low amount of carbohydrates. Setting up the high carb and low carb splits will vary from one plan to the next. Some people may have very small changes in the amount of carbs they have from day to day. An example of this would be to set up a low carb, medium carb, and high carb day. Let's say 300 grams of carbs on high carb, 250 grams of carbs on your medium carb, and 200 grams of carbs on your no carb day. Another more advanced approach would be to do a High carb, low carb, and no carb day. The way that I like to set this kind of split up is by having a high amount of carbs on my high carb day, which for me would be somewhere around 400 grams, I would have one third or at the most half that amount for low carb day, and then try to get as close to 0 grams as possible on my no carb day and then repeat. An even more advanced approach would be to just cycle between high and no carb days. Or take it even a step further and do high, no, no. I don't really recommend having any more than two no carb days in a row. Make sure you don't jump to any extreme carb restrictions. An example of this is doing a 800 calorie diet when you could lose weight and maintain a better body composition with a 1500 calorie diet. Jumping to an extreme will not help you lose weight faster, in fact it'll probably backfire. Also in case you're wondering what kind of food you can eat on your no carb day, some great options are fish, chicken breast, ground turkey, protein shakes, Steak occasionally, and you can also have healthy fat sources like avocados, coconut oil, olive oil. and fatty fish like Salmon. For carbs make sure you are eating good sources of carbs like oats, brown rice, and sweet potatoes and avoid the junk food carbs. You can incorporate one cheat meal on one high carb day in the week, but that's it one cheat meal. You may notice that your strength and energy levels may go down while dieting like this. In fact you may feel like straight up garbage in the beginning. Understand that a lot of people feel this way when creating any kind of a calorie deficit. You're body will take a little while to adapt to using fat for energy instead of carbs. So the first 2 weeks can feel miserable. Give your body some time to adapt. A good idea is to plan your high carb days the day before a heavy lifting day, because this way you have stored glycogen available for your heavy lifts the next day. If you have no idea how many carbs to have on each day, try using a calorie calculator to find your maintenance macros and then add at least 50 grams of carbs to get the number for your high carb day. I'll include a calorie calculator in the description. Once you have your high carb number you should be able to figure out your low carb day. No carb day is obviously no carbs. After doing a carb cycling plan you may need to do some reverse dieting

The process of breaking down or ‘burning’ body fat is known as ketosis. People on insulin will typically require smaller doses of insulin which leads to less risk of large dosing errors.     Cutting right?? At 205 you would want to go 10-12 calories per pound of bodyweight. Lets use 10 for an example. That will give you 2050 calories.
    Here is a basic outline of a serious cutting ratio:
    40% protien 55% fat 5% carbs
    Based on your weight:
    820 protien cals=205 grams
    1127.5 fat cals=125 grams
    102.5 carb cals=26 grams
    Okay, now the tricky stuff. I have found that the diet does vary by individual. Give 2 weeks and if you are losing a couple pounds a week those numbers are good for you. If not you will have to tweek the fat and protien levels so it best suits your metabolism.
    NOW THE BIG KEY:
    Post work out nutrition. Immediately after training have a shave with 30-40g carbs and 40 or so whey. The carbs do not count because after intense training they will be used. This will also help prevent the brain fog that can be common when starting a keto. Did mention THIS IS A BIG KEY!!
    Purchase some keto diasticks and test your urine from time to time to make sure you are staying in a mild state of ketosis.

Why I Chose A Ketogenic Diet For Diabetes Management

Often people use the term “diet” to mean something that is temporary for a specific purpose, usually weight loss. For me, it is a permanent way of eating now. I am a retired physician living with Type 1 diabetes since 1998. I started to exercise regularly in 2007 to help ward off complications, particularly cardiovascular disease. I was unaware at the time that aerobic exercise alone would have little impact on the development of cardiovascular disease. It wasn’t until 2011 when I contemplated doing an ironman distance triathlon, that I discovered diet is the most important determinate in the development of most chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease. My research led me to begin a very low carbohydrate, ketogenic diet in February 2012. Why I Chose a Low Carb Ketogenic Diet for Diabetes Management Carbohydrate is the macronutrient that raises blood glucose the most, so keeping consumption low is my primary goal. Of next importance is using whole foods that naturally have the necessary micronutrients and enough complete proteins to support my exercise.     metformin and lactic acidosis

    I am hoping that I can get some guidance from the members here. There are many of you that have a wealth of information on diabetes and things related so please bear with me. I went to the doctor yesterday and finally asked her for metformin er and was all set to try it out. Then I read the paper that came with it from the pharmacy. The warning about lactic acidosis stopped me in my tracks. Now I am afraid to take it. I searched the posts her a DD about lactic acidosis and I also found that some members said it caused them to be really fatigued. Another member posted that she had trouble with exercise because it caused leg cramps. I feel so overwhelmed now. I really wanted to try it out I believe it could help me but I don't want to put my life at risk to try it. I looked up lactic acidosis and I was reading about the bloods ph and acid in your blood. I have a problem with uric acid in my blood but I believe that is not related to lactic acidosis. I have had a problem with kidney infections and a lot of crystals in my urine and kidney stones the past year, but I believe my kidney function is ok. Does metformin cause lactic acidosis very often? Are the symptoms of lactic acidosis easy enough to pick up on so it can be caught early. I am sorry I am such a worry wart. Thank you in advance for any guidance/reassurance from you.

    All I can tell you is that millions upon millions take met with 0 issues. You are reading the absolute worst side affects. Have you see tv commericails on meds that is any meds. They say could cause heart attack, fatigue, even death no kidding. I been on met and so has my diabetic family and 0 issues other than a tad of diahrea. To me its extemely rare many here are on met me a very very long time on it. What am I saying to me its about the best D med out there other than exercise its free. It is just my opion for what its worth, I know others might have other ideas and of course its is there opinion also. Some take b-12 if they get fatigued on met, I do not get that way, all I can say is to me its as safe as can be.

    Every drug has potential side effects. Some more common than others. I'm not sure of the exact specifics, but I believe that for a side effect to be listed, it needs to happen in 1% of the people that take it.
    My husband has been on met with no side effects other than a little bit of tummy trouble. I have a dozen local diabetic friends (through volunteer work) that are also on it, and have no side effects. I do have one friend who reacts to everything and has no issues with it. I think i've only seen people with this issue a couple of times after about 15 years online haunting a variety of message boards.
    Take for example my warfarin. It can cause bleeding. Even a baby aspirin can cause this. And it does happen to some people. But the vast majority of folks don't have issues.
    Do you have some history of lactic acidosis? Or is this simply general anxiety over something new?
    All meds are a cost benefit analysis. Do you want to try the drug to alleviate a serious issue ( like high blood sugar) or do you decide to refuse it on the basis of a rare side effect and maybe get into trouble due to glucose issues? Why not try it? Discuss with your phamacist what to look for if you are worried. But basically it is a safe, effective drug.

    OK So I was trying to learn more about Ketosis and came across a forum where a guy claimed you could reach ketosis in just 24hours of water fasting. I really wish I could start it right now but I already had a cliff bar today so I may not start this until this weekend but here is what you do.
    - The day before you want to start your water fast you eat only fruit, so that is the only carbs and glucose in your system. He says to preferably eat it for 2-3 days in advance.
    - On Day 1 of the fast you drink 8oz of orange juice and then you walk for 2-3 hours or around 5-6.5 miles. He claims this will burn all of your carb reserves and go directly into ketosis by the next morning.
    - After the first day you do not exercise and just continue on to the normal water only fast.
    I need a weekend day to be able to walk around for 3 continuos hours & a few days planning so I think I am going to try and start fruit fasting tomorrow or Thursday and then start the fast Saturday. I really want to get into Ketosis for awhile because I have plenty of fat to burn. I am also a highly toxic person and I know this so it would be nice to really flush stuff out.

    Sounds a little complicated? You will reach ketosis within 24-48h by simply water fasting.

    Yeah it's not a big secret. It's very easy after a day of fasting. Heck the hours of walking sound terrible to me. Maybe 30 mns of running or on the elliptical while fasting. Also, depending on how long you're planning on water fasting, you will barely be able to do anything and you will lose all muscle mass. Plus fasting/juicing does not make you detoxify.
    I mean, don't get me wrong. I've done this before successfully so you will shed weight but better have the facts. And if you ever feel you're getting too weak, just remember just some protein and fat can go a long way in strengthening your resolve and it will not ruin the diet.
