How To Know If You Are In Ketosis.

Well i am sure there is another post like this, because i read it before, but i dont remeber exactly what it said and I cant find it. The quesiton is just as the title says, how can i know if i am in ketosis or not? I have been reading and the people says that at the second day, or thirth day or X day they get in to ketosis, but how they know that? If you have never been in Ketosis buy some keto sticks. You can pick them up at most drug stores in the US and Canada. Ask the pharmisist if you can't find them on the shelf. Usually they will be with diabetic supplies. Lots of people will say not to waist your money but they are cheap and I get an instant gratification when I see the test strip turn color. Besides, it is always nice to see evidence that your effort is paying off. -odd metalic taste in your mouth and bad breath. - I also get cotton mouth (dry mouth and really foamy saliva).     A few methods:
    - pee on a stick. There's a generic brand (I use Walgreen's) and the official brand. In general, they're called "ketone test strips" and they will change colors depending on the amount of ketone bodies in your urine. There is no "perfect level" of ketone bodies; you are either in ketosis or you are not. You will find these test strips in the same isle as the diabetic test stuff.
    - smell your breath. It will smell *awful* because a side product of ketosis is acetone in the urine and breath. While urine might always smell bad to you, your breath will smell truly, noticeably foul.
    - no bloating. Ketones do not bind with water the way glucose/glycogen does. You will not retain water when in ketosis. Nice!

    Warning: this might gross you out, but there's a simple answer to this question.
    OK, you want to know how you can tell? If you're in ketosis, you will often find oily residue floating in the toilet (assuming adequate lighting to see it). That's because while in ketosis, you excrete excess fat calories.

    I am just wondering if there are any signs of ketosis that one can watch for that a person can see without any sort of testing? Are there things that happen physically that give clues?
    I don’t have any means of testing anything. I have a simple bathroom scale. That’s pretty much my only tool.
    I’ve been eating what I think is a pretty strict keto diet for about 4 days shy of one month. I’ve had a day or two when I didn’t exactly feel the greatest but never anything resembling the flu. I’ve had a couple of small oopsies but quite small ones, not within the last week or so, and less than I would have fingers for counting on one hand. I’ve been pretty good. I haven’t done anything extraordinary exercise wise, just a little walking. I’ve lost 19 pounds and feel pretty good. Brain seems pretty clear. No real issues that I can point towards except maybe a few restless nights, but even that isn’t dramatic, and getting used to new bowel habits.
    One thing I have noticed several times in the last week, when I take a shower in the mornings, I kinda notice what I think might be my breath. It’s not quite the same acetone smell I’ve noticed after a hard workout (when I had my elliptical machine). But it’s still a peculiar smell. I’ve wondered if that might be a hint that I may be in ketosis.
    So that got me to wondering whether that or maybe some other subtle things might be little clues of being in ketosis.
    I hope I haven’t plowed right into the content of a previous thread. I didn’t see it if it’s here, though, I’ll be the first to admit, I haven’t read them all.

    Unless you have a really broken metabolism and need super super low carbs you are in ketosis and have been for a while. It does take a bit longer to really start running on fat as routine - what people call being fat adapted.

    It drove me mad not knowing though and I had to get gadgets!

How Do I Know If I Am In Ketosis? - 3 Fat Chicks On A Diet Weight Loss Community

I have been on the IP plan for eight days. I've lost 8 pounds... But I'm not sure if I've actually gone into ketosis. I've read about metallic taste, no appetite, thirst, etc. But I don't think I've experienced any of these. I've been following the plan religiously since day one. I just don't know if I'm doing anything wrong, or if this is perfectly normal. I'm glad I'm on the plan and happy with the results I've seen so far. I just want to make sure I know if I'm doing something wrong as soon as possible so I can correct it. Any advice would be soooo appreciated. And thanks to you guys in the forum. I've been stalking here for a few weeks. I don't think I could have/would have done this diet without you! You could buy the strips to be sure. I don't have any strips, but the only thing different for me is I am so thirsty all of the time. I sip (sometimes gulp) water all day. I take extra salt to compensate. But I don't have ketosis breath or the metallic taste in my mouth. So I don't know if I am officially in ketosis or not, but this is my 9th day OP and I am down 8 lbs.
