Acidosis/Sports Training Overload ADMhdiuqy497394179hd 2016-10-06T15:53:03+00:00 Acidosis, which is a functional imbalance characterized by an excessive concentration of hydrogen ions in the extracellular fluids, implies the progressive reduction of the bodys buffer stock and, as a direct result, the alteration of the cellular metabolic processes. Treating acidosis is important to improve the symptoms that can be associated to it, including large areas of diseases and disorders, such as joint pain, chronic fatigue, sleep disorders, increased susceptibility to allergies, frequent infections and osteoporosis. The effectiveness of buffer food supplements in order to rebalance the phenomena of acidosis has been demonstrated in different clinical situations: from sport to treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, to degenerative disorders of the skeletal system till cancer. Melcalin BASE is a buffer food supplement that assists in maintaining the acid-base balance by providing the right amount of phosphate and bicarbonate ions, which are the main constituents of buffering stocks, in addition to key minerals such as magnesium and potassium, which are also key components for the maintenan Continue reading >>

How does ketosis occur due to low insulin rate?

    1 Answer

Type 2 diabetes is a condition where the glucose metabolism has gone all awry due to either the body not being able to produce enough insulin or the cells not responding sufficiently to insulin. This condition can result in a host of health complications which can range from mild to life threatening. One such complication is called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and if untreated can lead to coma and death.
When your body produces little or no insulin, it starts burning fats for fuel. This is because insulin is necessary for pushing glucose (the preferred energy source) inside muscle cells. In the absence of glucose, fats are broken down by cells to derive energy. During this process, acidic substances called ketones are formed which start piling up inside the blood stream. This accumulation leads to ketoacidosis.

Find out why complications occur in type 2 diabetes in this excellent article.

Alkaline Vs Acidic Foods Chart

When the bodys pH level is too acidic for an extended period of time, acidosis can set in. When the body is too alkaline for an extended period of time, alkalosis can set in. Most people who have an unbalanced pH are acidic, and being too alkaline is very rare. Acidosis occurs when there is a build up of too much acid in the body. There are two types of acidosis: Respiratory acidosis which develops when there is too much carbon dioxide in the body, and metabolic acidosis which occurs when the body produces too much acid or when the kidneys are not able to remove enough acid from the body. Food is digested in our bodies and is broken down to an ash residue, which determines alkaline vs acidic foods. This ash residue can be neutral, acidic, or alkaline, and consists of the basic building blocks or nutrients of the food. For instance, alkaline foods may contain higher amounts of, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron, and will leave an alkaline ash, while acidic foods may contain higher amounts of sulphur, phosphorus, and chlorine leave acid ash. When it comes to alkaline vs acidic foods, these foods have both alkaline and acidic properties, but alkaline foods will have more alkali Continue reading >>

    Hey Guys,
How do you deal with bad breath on cd ss, i need to find a way to better my stinky mouth befor i go back 2 uni as i do value my friends and would like to keep them....:ignore:
i was thinking about sugar free gum but wasnt sure if we were allowed those? plus mints and sprays??
if we are allowed which brands are we allowed and were can i get them????
    thanks for helping xxxxxxxxxx

  2. Katycakes

It's a problem, right? When I started SS in late November I went everywhere with listerine, toothpaste & a toothbrush in my bag, and kept making sudden sprints for the loos, I was so paranoid! My cdc said chewing gum was out, & couldn't find breath freshener spray in our local area. It does get easier after a few weeks - less of a problem, but I'm restarting SS and the bad breath is back... grrr!!! I do know others have used zero cal gum and also listerine strips... not sure what they are, but sound good. I really was self-conscious about this and developed a habit of trying to talk from behind my hand, not exactly subtle!!! Look forward to seeing how other people have coped... better than me, I bet!!!

  3. kateykat

    hey!
from other posts on here it looks like chewing gum (make sure it is peppermint or something because citric is very bad!) and you can chew it for one or two minutes. some people say you can chew for longer, but it will make you hungry or something? so people seem to think it is best to be sticking to the breath fresheners and listerine tabs.
have you noticed that you have a horrible taste in your mouth? i have and it is so horrible so i keep drinking water to try and get rid of it but it is not going!! (i'm on day two) and does your jaw hurt? mine feels quite tight, don't know if that is diet related or not though!!

Originsand evolution of the Western diet: health implications for the 21st century "food staples and food-processing proceduresintroduced during the Neolithic and Industrial Periods havefundamentally altered 7 crucial nutritional characteristics ofancestral human diets: 1) glycemic load, 2) fatty acid composition,3) macronutrient composition, 4) micronutrient density, 5)acid-base balance, 6) sodium-potassium ratio, and 7)fiber content. Fish, meat, poultry, eggs, shellfish, cheese, milk, and cereal grains are net acid producing, whereas freshfruit, vegetables, tubers, roots, and nuts are net base producing.Legumes yield near-zero mean acid values, which reflects anoverlapping distribution from slightly net acid producing to slightlynet base producing. Just done a quick Google and here are some comments i read....
    - There's nothing magical about ketosis and you will still gain if energy in exceeds energy out. Ketosis is not neccessary for fatloss and you shouldn't put coconut and other fat sources everywhere. Focus on more protein from meat/eggs/dairy + green veggies and don't add any fats other than some fishoil. You'll be getting enough fats from your protein sources and don't have to worry about ketosis.
    - Damn. Thanks Manimal- I feel like kind of an idiot now for not assuming this, but ketosis gets such cred on this board! I mean, if weight on ketosis still equals energy in and energy out, what's all the fuss about?
    - Ketosis means that your body is using mostly fat for fuel. IF you are eating less energy than you burn, then yay, it'll be mostly stored fat that your body uses, and you will shrink. But if you are eating more energy, then you will still be laying down fat faster than you burn it. The win in ketosis is that most people are a lot less hungry. It does not add up to fat loss by itself.
    - If I go to ketosis I will usually undereat without planning to, because my appetite just shrinks. But this might not be true for you. And coconut is not a magic free fat loss food. The fats in it are easy to digest and it's a good choice for promoting ketosis, but if you eat enough of it, you can still get fatter on it.
    - It is possible to gain weight in ketosis - calories still matter
    Thoughts?

I think ketosis is part of the big picture, but not the only defining factor in weight loss.

Acidosis is a biochemical condition, caused by acid-alkaline imbalance in the body's pH levels, where the acidity of the body fluid is very high.
