Ketogenic Diet Weight Loss Results | I Lost 30lbs In 6 Weeks

My Ketogenic Diet Weight Loss Results Before I talk about the ketogenic diet, I would like to give you a little background about myself. A few years ago I had manage to eat and drink my way up to 280lbs. Even though I have a goofy smile in the picture below, it was a very depressing time in my life. The only thing I was worried about when I got off work was beer and unhealthy foods. I could go to Long John Silver’s and eat eight pieces of fish, eight shrimp, a large box of fries and still look for more food to eat. The last thing on my mind was any type of diet or exercise. I was about 265lbs in the photo below… Uhggg!! Fast forward a few years, I went through a separation and ended up homeless. I decided to quit drinking, start working out and of course, find a job… At the time of this next photo I was about 250lbs and had been sober for two months. I had been working out for about a month, doing a total body workout three days a week. When I would workout, I would do three sets of ten reps per body part. That’s all I remembered from high school when I played football…lol About 250lbs As far as my diet goes, I just did what I was taught in the past about eating healthy. It was basically high carbs, low fats, fruits and veggies. I remembered the old food pyramids back when I was a kid and all I could think of was… “Fat is Bad”… It made sense… Why would I eat fat if I was trying to lose fat? As you notice at the top of the pyramid, Fats and Oils are to be used sparingly. And from looking at the bottom of the pyramid, I can eat all of the bread, rice, cereal and pasta I wanted. So that’s exactly what I did. I was eating tons of bread from sandwiches because most of the deli slices were low fat. I’m talking loads of spaghetti, lasagna, mac and chees Continue reading >>

How To Lose Weight With A Low Carb Diet In Two Weeks

How To Lose Weight With A Low Carb Diet In Two Weeks

Look at the Government’s Eatwell Guide and you’ll see that they recommend a third of our diet is made up of starchy foods (pasta, rice, bread) and a third fruit and vegetables. That’s two thirds of your daily intake of food in the form of carbohydrates. Why, then, is there such a backlash against this essential macronutrient when it comes to weight loss? The answer comes down to the way the body deals with carbohydrates. In an ideal world, an individual will consume enough carbohydrate needed for their energy output, some storage and a healthy amount of fat, without being overweight. However, eat more carbohydrate than the body can use (as glucose in the blood stream) or store (as glycogen in the liver and muscle) and it gets converted into fat for long-term storage. In contrast, eat less carbs and your body turns to your pre-existing fat storage for energy. Hence why diets like The Atkins, Dukan, Keto and South Beach diet all rely on the principle of carb restriction to achieve weight loss results. Why does a low carb diet seem to result in weight loss quicker than others? It’s all about water weight, says Dietitian and BDA Spokesperson Chloe Miles. “When you eat carbohydrates, your body stores it as glycogen in the liver and muscle. "Your muscles store approximately 500g and your liver approximately 100g and it’s thought that every gram of glycogen in the human muscle is bound to 3g of water,” she says. Cut out carbohydrates and you deplete this store, which results in weight loss. Some dieters report a 4-5lbs weight loss in just two weeks from a low carb diet. In the longer term, removing carbohydrates as a source of energy means your body uses fat and protein as its main source, aiding weight loss. However, it's worth noting that the idea of ‘cutting Continue reading >>

How To Lose Weight On A Keto Diet In 5 Easy Steps (+ 4 Real-life Examples)

CLEARLY the “eat less”, “eat low fat”, and “just eat everything in moderation” diets haven’t worked too well for most people. So, if you’re still trying to lose weight and keep it off, then maybe it’s time to try something that’s working for tens of thousands of people right now… The Ketogenic Diet. But is it all too good to be true? Yes, we believe Keto is fantastic for weight loss. We’ve just seen it work for way too many people (check out the success stories below). But it’s also not for everyone. So, in this post, we are giving you the real facts behind all the hype as well as real-life stories of people who have lost a lot of weight on Keto. PLUS, how to get started on Keto to lose weight in 5 EASY Steps. What is the Ketogenic Diet? THE HISTORY: Originally the Ketogenic diet was created as an effective treatment for epileptic children. BUT NOW: More and more people are finding that a Ketogenic diet has tons of benefits, including: a healthy way to lose weight, control blood sugar levels, improve your brain function, and potentially even reverse a myriad of health conditions. How does keto do this? The Keto diet puts your body into a powerful fat-burning metabolic state called nutritional ketosis. NUTRITIONAL KETOSIS: In nutritional ketosis, your body generally uses very few carbohydrates for energy. Instead, it switches to using ketones (which are produced from the breakdown of fats). That’s why the keto diet is often called a fat-burning diet… You can literally be burning your own body fat for energy! (It’s still unclear whether ketosis is the magical factor that makes a Keto diet so effective for weight-loss, but whatever it is, it seems to work!) So, how do we get into this nutritional ketosis state? You can get into nutritional k Continue reading >>

I Tried The Keto Diet For A Week, And This Is What Happened

Americans are always finding the “best” way to lose weight, hence the wide variety of diets we have available to us. There’s “raw-til-4,” Paleo, juice cleanses, the blood type diet, cabbage soup diet, and more. Now, another diet, or as people like to call it now, lifestyle, is emerging called keto, which is very comparable to the popular 1970’s Atkins diet. Keto requires you to severely limit your intake of carbs to 25 grams net carbs a day, have a moderate intake of protein, and a high intake of fats. This will set your body to run on ketones instead of glucose. There are so many pros and cons to this diet, and no one can seem to come to a definite conclusion, partly because it hasn’t been studied long enough. As a society, we go through waves of fearing a certain macro nutrient, to all of a sudden praising it. Keto could just be another phase, or maybe it actually provides the health benefits it claims to from simple weight loss to curing cancer. I decided to try it out myself for one week to see what would happen. My goal wasn’t to lose weight, or to reinforce the health claims. I just wanted to experience what it would be like, and what people go through when practicing keto. The Night Before I did my research, calculated my macros, and prepped some meals that I can have. The amount of eggs I have in my fridge right now is ridiculous. I also got avocados, Earth Balance vegan butter, low-carb vegetables, and cheese. My goal is to hit 25 grams carbs, 75 grams protein, and 137 grams fat. I love peanut butter, eggs and cheese for sure, but…yikes. I dragged my boyfriend to do it with me so I’d be encouraged to finish out the week. He was ecstatic for it, though, and kept talking about how much butter and steak he was going to eat. I joked about how I Continue reading >>

How Much Weight Can You Expect To Lose In 5 Weeks Eating A Low-carb Diet?

How Much Weight Can You Expect To Lose In 5 Weeks Eating A Low-carb Diet?

That big event you want to look your best for is coming up in just over a month, and you want to calculate how many pounds you can drop before then if you commit to eating low-carb. The answer really depends on the strictness of your low-carb regimen, your age and how much weight you have to lose -- younger men and people with more weight to lose tend to drop pounds most rapidly. An extremely low-carb diet is likely to yield faster immediate weight loss, but a less restricted level of carbs may be easier to follow for five weeks. Video of the Day Why Low-Carb Works for Weight Loss Before figuring out how much weight you can lose, understand why low-carb will help you lose it. First, when you reduce carbs, you cut off a major source of calories -- so you're eating less. On a low-carb diet, you'll probably find yourself eating more protein, which increases satisfaction and takes slightly more calories to digest than carbs and fats. Your appetite will most likely decrease on the diet, too, so you may feel less hungry and have fewer cravings for sweets and other foods with "empty" calories. Eating low-carb also reduces insulin levels. Insulin is a hormone that your body releases in reaction to eating sugars -- whether they come from a can of soda or a bowl of pasta. Too much insulin drives your body to store fat. You also drop a fair amount of water weight when you eat low-carb. One reason is that your kidneys release sodium -- and water -- in response to the lower levels of insulin in your blood. You also lose fluid because the stored carbohydrates in your muscles, also called glycogen, are bound to water, and as you use them for energy, the water is released. An "extremely low-carb" diet contains 50 grams or fewer of carbs per day. This plan leads to the most rapid weight Continue reading >>

N=me – Eating Exclusively Keto Chow For 4 Weeks Experiment Results

October 20, 2017, I (Chris Bair, that’s me) started an experiment on myself to see what would happen if I ate only Keto Chow for 4 weeks while getting weekly blood tests to monitor my health and what was going on in my body. I also wanted to verify the readiness of a change to the recipe, fit two experiments into one. Here are the results: I didn’t die. I say that in all seriousness because there are many people that think you will die (or at least not be healthy) if you attempt the sort of thing I did: “Your brain requires 200g of carbohydrates a day or you’ll go into a coma” “If you don’t chew your food your body can’t regulate hunger and you’ll have health complications” “Sucralose will completely mess up your gut bacteria” “Dairy will cause inflammation, trigger insulin, and prevent ketogenesis” Etcetera… Food for the experiment: My plan was that the only food I would be eating would be Keto Chow. Specifically starting with Keto Chow 2.0.2 for a week and then switching over to a pre-release version of Keto Chow 2.1 – this experiment would serve a dual purpose in allowing me to verify the readiness of the new formula. It’s a slight change but I wanted to be 100% certain it is still awesome. Most of the experiment I would be using heavy cream in my Keto Chow, part of the time I would be using avocado oil instead due to a lack of available refrigeration. Part of the Keto Chow recipe is fish pills – I would also be taking these to get the necessary EPA and DHA Ω3 fatty acids. I would be drinking only water. If I started to feel low on salt I had some Redmond Real Salt I could take. To eliminate variables I would not be consuming any other sweeteners or calories of any kind. This precluded any kind of gum or soda. I would also not be Continue reading >>

Zero Carb Experiment – Day 30!!

Zero Carb Experiment – Day 30!!

Yesterday May 5, 2015 marked day 30 of my Zero Carb diet experiment. And wow, what a month it has been! If you missed my experiment until now, here are all of the links to my updates: Read my first post on zero carb Read my first update on zero carb Read my second update on zero carb Read my third update on zero carb Since April 6, 2015 I have been eating from the animal kingdom only, mostly meat and some eggs with dairy in the beginning (but no more). In the last 30 days I have eaten: beef (all kinds), beef tallow, chicken thighs, crab, shrimp, scallops, butter, bacon & its grease, lamb, tuna, rockfish, salmon, sardines, grass-fed ghee, eggs. Condiments: mustard, tabasco, garlic, lemon, herbs and spices with no added sugar. Also some mayonnaise in the beginning, then switched to this avocado oil mayo (my one item from a plant). I have made only a few ‘recipes': Reverse seared ribeye steak, The Bear's chicken recipe, ground beef jerky, cabbage juice tonic, chicken bone broth in a pressure cooker. [I'll add links as I post these recipes – coming soon!] What I have NOT been eating: anything sweet, vegetables, grains, “keto” or “paleo” bread, low carb or anything else with carbs in them. RESULTS!! My results on zero carb blew my keto diet results out of the water. I lost just as much weight and fat on zero carb in 30 days, as I did on keto in 5 months!! I don't feel that keto is especially flawed, and it can be good for a lot of people though. I think partially it's because zero carb is so simple and the limits are so well defined that I don't have any questionable intake, especially of “faux foods” such as keto pizza that keep the brain addicted to its drug. The sad news is that I am really a terrible carb addict. Even the small amounts of carbs in vegetab Continue reading >>

How Quickly Can You Expect To Lose Weight When You Eat A Keto Diet?

How Quickly Can You Expect To Lose Weight When You Eat A Keto Diet?

This is one of those questions that gets asked a lot so I wanted to address it in this post. I know that one of the things that excited me about starting the ketogenic diet in the beginning was reading about all these crazy weight loss success stories that some women seemed to experience. You know, the ones where they lose 14 pounds in the first three weeks and then continue to lose 4 pounds a week for the next 6 months and voila they’re at their ideal weight. I loved the thought of getting into a fat burning state and just watching the excess pounds melt away. In actuality, it took me about a year to lose 30 pounds. However it didn’t take a year for me to start feeling and looking a great deal better, though. This actually happened in a matter of weeks. Every Woman is Different The thing about losing weight on the keto diet is every woman is different. Those who have a lot of excess fat will find that it comes off more quickly. Those who have a lot of metabolic derangement or hormonal healing to do will find that it takes longer. Your body’s main goal is always survival and health. It doesn’t care about how it looks, it cares about how it’s functioning. When you start eating keto with weight loss in mind, you kind of have to trust the process. What you are doing is feeding your body all the nutrients it needs to heal, build, release and do whatever it needs to do in order to move towards optimal health. Some women will experience this as a fairly drastic weight loss, and others will experience this as a slow weight loss. If you have a great deal of healing and balancing to do internally, you may even experience a little weight gain in the beginning. (I know, few women want to hear this). Embarking on a journey of health is a little like embarking on a journey Continue reading >>

Keto Diet Week 3: My Keto Diet Journey

Keto Diet Week 3: My Keto Diet Journey

Guess what? Keto Diet Week 3 results are in! Yeah, baby! As I mentioned in my week 2 post, I thought I had experienced ketosis (if I was, it was minimal), but after week 3 I better understood what it felt like. During week 3 I started to feel fatigued, and if I allowed myself to go too long without eating, I started to feel sick. I also got the lovely ketosis breath. To be honest, I was pretty excited. Sure I brush my teeth 5-6 times a day now, but I am happy to finally be “in the zone.” While I had no trouble keeping my carb intake under 20 grams every single day since starting, my big struggle was fat. I couldn’t seem to figure out how to get enough fat into my diet. As you will see, I finally got the hang of it around the middle of the week. For the first time, I was finally meeting my daily fat requirements, and that felt great. I knew if I didn’t get enough fat I would lose my muscles first, so I did not want to go down that road. Oh, and I also noticed that when I met my fat goals, I didn’t get lightheaded anymore (so that’s a plus). Keto Diet Week 3: Getting enough fat each day takes some creativity, but once you start getting the hang of the keto diet methods you’ll be all set. If you need some help with fats, be sure to check out my favorite High Fat Recipes for ideas! After going through week 3, my biggest takeaway is to eat on a schedule. I allowed myself to go too long without eating most days, and I think that’s why I felt so tired. On Sunday, I made sure to eat as soon as I was hungry, and I felt much better. I plan to start week four with a new eating plan. My first meal is at 8 am, at 12 pm I have lunch, a snack at 4 pm, and I again around 6:30 pm. Once my body gets on a schedule I will have more energy. I will let you know how that works Continue reading >>

5 Days Of Egg Fast | My Sweet Keto

5 Days Of Egg Fast | My Sweet Keto

A lot of people, especially those on LCHF and keto diets , do 5 Days ofEgg Fast to break their weightloss stall. Surprisingly, it works for a majorityof them if we are to believewhat they report on social networks and forums. I havent been able to find any real scientific explanation to why it works but have my thoughts (that might change in the future if I get more clues). Basically, on an Egg Fast, you only eat eggs , healthy fats, and full-fat cheese for 3 to 5 days in a row. You are supposed to eat at least 6 eggs a day, and 1 Tbsp of fat for each egg consumed. The number of ouncesof cheese eatenshould not exceed the number of eggs eaten on each day. If you follow these simple guidelines, you get macronutrients nicely balanced outat the end of the day: Extremelylow carb, high fat, and moderate protein. Thats what the keto diet is all about, except that on Egg Fast, theres practically no fiber intake (no greens, seeds, meals, etc.). Because of this, in my personal opinion, thediet should be kept short-term. Additionally, I think magnesium , potassium , and vitamin supplements should be taken daily. And plenty of water drunk (10 cupsa day, at least). But I am no doctor, so take my advice as an opinion. So, why does the diet work? I think, most of all, one gets rid of plenty of water on Egg Fast. But peoplekeep reporting successful weight loss or weight maintenance for a prolongedperiod, following the fast. So, it is possible theres some hormonal stuff going on in the background, which influences bodys metabolism. Or the other way around. Anyhow, Ill be quite glad once I get to read some research on this (if ever). In case you havent been familiar with Egg Fast, Im listing the rules that one should supposedlyfollow on the diet if they want to break their stall: One has Continue reading >>

How To Lose 75 Pounds In 75 Days With Bulletproof Intermittent Fasting

How To Lose 75 Pounds In 75 Days With Bulletproof Intermittent Fasting

“Really, it’s that easy?”- That’s what Zach said when he heard about the Rapid Fat Loss version of Bulletproof Intermittent Fasting. You may have already read about the basic protocol for Bulletproof Intermittent Fasting, and the Rapid Fat Loss Protocol. The Rapid Fat Loss Protocol is a cyclical ketogenic diet with Bulletproof Coffee. To avoid the negative effects of calorie cutting, we use appropriate supplements. This protocol was created for clients who want to lose the maximum amount of fat possible in the shortest time span – without feeling like a zombie. Besides the fact that I enjoy helping people and sharing my secrets (as evidenced by my blog), I like to create programs that achieve results my clients demand. Before I share something, I test if it works for me. Good science is repeatable, which is why I like it when other people are able to lose fat and feel awesome – like me. Zach provided the perfect opportunity to test one of these techniques. As with everything good in life, it started with Bulletproof Coffee. Bulletproof Coffee improves brain function, increases fat loss, and keeps you full. You never feel hungry, get low energy, and as evidenced by our conversation with Chris Masterjohn, the saturated fat is good for you. Many executives (or anyone for that matter) would kill to have sustained energy while never feeling hungry. One such person is my Bulletproof financial trader friend from Las Vegas named Zach. Zach has struggled with his weight for years, but I convinced him to give the Bulletproof Fasting Fat Loss Protocol a chance. Zach’s job requires great mental capacity and doesn’t allow for much movement during the day. As many business men do, he depended on sugar for energy – and got fat. In order to provide a simple, effective Continue reading >>

4 Month Update On My Ketogenic Diet

4 Month Update On My Ketogenic Diet

My next 90 Day Keto Challenge starts soon. Would you like to join me? It includes weekly webinars, meal plans and shopping list, a workbook, and private online support group. For more info, click here. Did you notice that I took off the word “experiment” in the title? I’ve decided this is no longer an experiment, meaning something that is temporary and only done for a trial period. After the life altering health improvements I’ve experienced, I’ve decided that this is my new way of life. Who would ever want to go back to feeling miserable all day and night? This month, along with my normal report of health improvements and challenges, I’ve included some Frequently Asked Questions that I have been getting recently. In some ways, month four was quite different from months one through three. The biggest difference was that my weight loss slowed considerably. I also started to exercise a lot more, incorporating weight lifting and lots more walking. In most other ways, month four was business as usual for my keto life: I continued to experience health benefits and improvements, plus I’ve noticed even more. The slowed weight loss did begin to play mind games with me, since my weight loss up to this point had been relatively effortless. I had times where I questioned if I was doing something wrong, if I might be sliding back into old habits and underestimating portions, if this wasn’t working any more, if I’d ever be able to lose any more weight, etc. A friend pointed out that I was addicted to big scale losses! And she was right. What I had to realize was that since I added three times per week weight training, plus I was walking a couple of miles per day (my car broke down and I had to walk everywhere), the slowed weight loss was likely due to body composit Continue reading >>
