Big Market Research : World Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems Market - Size, Share, Trends, Demand, Report, Opportunities and Forecast 2020 To Get More Details @ http://www.bigmarketresearch.com/glob... Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) is one of the latest technological advancements in the field of diabetes management. CGM systems are a type of glucose monitoring devices that function by inserting a biosensor through transcutaneous or subcutaneous route. The embedded sensor measures the glucose levels in the interstitial fluid or in the blood and results are transmitted via a transmitter to a receiver/monitor that displays the results. CGM systems have emerged as an integral part of diabetes management owing to its several advantages over other glucose monitoring devices. Unlike conventional glucose monitors, these systems enable periodic monitoring of glucose levels, which is crucial to avoid any diabetic complications. In addition, CGMS technology has laid a roadmap to the most awaited, high-tech, closed-loop artificial/bionic pancreas. Therefore, developing novel and technologically advanced CGMS is the prime focus of several glucose monitoring device manufacturing compan

    Pump market getting smaller

I just saw this on another site - apparently Animas is getting out of the pump market and will be transitioning their clients to Medtronic. Does that leave only Medtronic and Omnipod as pump providers? I know that when I was FFL, about 80% of pumpers were on pods and the rest appeared mainly to be on a Medtronic pump.

That still leaves Tandem, as well, right?
It seems to me that Animas and Tandem were splitting the remaining market share (both integrate to Dexcom, as opposed to Medtronic which has its own CGM, and OminPod, the only "Pod" pump). It kinda seems like there just wasn't enough to differentiate Animas and Tandem. J&J (owner of Animas) must have decided it wasn't worth the battle for a subset of a subset of the pump market, especially without their own CGM to integrate. Linda makes sense.
It's a bit sad, though. We lost SNAP a few years ago, as I recall. Even though I love my Medtronic, I want multiple players, pushing each other, both for tech advancement and price competition.

Why Medtronic though? Animas uses the dexcom. So now I have to give up dexcom and go all Medtronic?

Global Continuous Glucose Monitoring System Market Report (2017-2023): Companies Profiled Include Medtronic, Dexcom, Abbott, Insulet Corp, Tandem Diabetes & Echo Therapeutics - Research And Markets

DUBLIN--( BUSINESS WIRE )--Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "Global Continuous Glucose Monitoring System Market Insights, Opportunity Analysis, Market Shares and Forecast 2017 - 2023" report to their offering. Emergence of continuous glucose monitoring systems is a major breakthrough in the glucose monitoring for diabetic patients. Medtronic and Dexcom are the only major players in this industry followed by Abbott in few regions. Companies are focusing more on research and development before introducing their products in the market. CGMS are highly regulated and go through strict tests before being approved. CGM manufacturers have faced competition from self-monitoring blood glucose devices (SMBG). SMBG devices are cheaper and easy to use and have an less stringent approval process from authorities like FDA. SMBG has more number of players and larger market share. However, CGM systems have been able to make a good market entry in the U.S. and are following the trend in other territories. CGM system market has seen good growth rates in past three years. Medtronic and Dexcom have introduced new systems which have witnessed lower frequency of errors. The MARD va Continue reading >>

'now Is The Time To Learn' About Cgm

Today I have some updates about continuous glucose monitoring. Those of you who have seen my previous videos know how important I believe continuous glucose monitoring is for patients and providers. Until now, all of the continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) have required regular calibration. This means patients have to prick their fingers to calibrate the monitor two to three times a day, which is bothersome, but not that much considering all of the data you get from a CGM. But now, the first ever factory-calibrated CGM has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and should be available by the end of the year. This CGM has already been on the market in Europe. It is called the FreeStyle Libre, and it has even been available over-the-counter in some countries. This is pretty amazingit's almost like wearing a Fitbit, except that it is a monitor to check blood sugar. To me, this widens the application. It is simple and it replaces fingersticks. This is a plus not only for our type 1 diabetics who need a lot of monitoring, but also for type 2 diabetics who may need more episodic monitoring. The Libre comes in a box comprising two pieces: the device that inserts the mo Continue reading >>
