I got to a stage whereI was lifting pretty heavy weights andI was pretty impressed with my triceps and biceps. I cant say that now. Blogging has led to me learning a whole heap, but it is a fairly sedentary pursuit and my fitness level has suffered as a result. I walk regularly with my good friend Nina (whoI have converted to blogging along the way)but Ive felt the need to get back to the weights. I have my own weight bar and weights but trying to remember the routines when you are at home has been difficult. I was contemplating getting back to the weights over the weekend when it occured to me that someone might have posted Les Mills BodyPump classes on YouTube. (Dont know whyI hadnt thought of it a lot earlier.) So off I went to YouTube and there they were. It seems the Germans are the ones uploading so I spent some time over the last day or so using kickyoutube to download them to my computer. So, if youre wondering what a Body Pump class is like and the order in which you complete the routines, here iswhat Ive been doing for the last hour. Stefan and a couple of other mostly German instructors have done a very good job of taking me through a class. Once class has started or reached capacity, admittance is prohibited. It is unsafe to begin any group fitness class after the format has already started. In an effort to ensure the safety and experience of our participants, those arriving after the instructor has started the class will not be allowed to participate. The following classes require you to reserve a spot in advance; BODYPUMP, CYCLE, RIPPED, TRX, and BARRE. Call (217) 333-3806 no more than 24 hours in advance to reserve a spot in one of these classes. Reservations will cease 15 minutes prior to each class. Participants can only reserve a spot for one individual per class. Participants must arrive 5 minutes early to the session to claim their reserved spot or risk losing their spot. Yoga Mats: Yoga mats are limited for mind/body group fitness sessions. You are encouraged to bring your own yoga mat. These can be purchased at ARC/CRCE Member Services. Zoals in mijn BenFit vlog #002 aangegeven zou ik ook nog het een en ander vertellen over de muziek die gebruikt wordt tijdens de Les Mills lessen Bodypump 97. Daarom in deze post mijn mening over de Bodypump 97 tracklist. Laat ik beginnen met het zeggen dat ik de muziek ronduit vet en lekker vind! Een afwisseling van verschillende stijlen. Goed gekozen voor het doel van de training. De timing is perfect bijvoorbeeld voor in de rust momenten. Het nummer waar ik het meest van geniet is die van de buikspieren. Dit is een wat rustigere beat maar wel met een duidelijke tijdsindeling van de maatsoort (4/4). Hoewel ik trance muziek erg waardeer kan ik ook genieten van Godsmack met Generation Day. Als drummer zijn dit soort nummers toch wel heerlijk om te doen (lekker rammen). Maar welke track hebben ze gekozen voor de oefeningen? This week Reebok invited me to try out a LES MILLS BODYPUMP class. Ive heard many people raving about LES MILLS classes before, but I never actually attended one before myself, so when the opportunity arose, I jumped to take it! but first of all I wanted to do a little bit of background research. LES MILLS is a worldwide series of group fitness classes founded by a guy called Phillip Mills, and named after his father, and four time olympian, Les Mills Snr. The classes are run across the globe in various gyms and clubs, but they also have online workouts series and a YouTube channel. BODYPUMP is just one of the LES MILLS classes. They have loads more including; BodyBalance, BodyCombat, BodyJam, and Grit which is their infamous HIIT workout. I signed up to their BODYPUMP class at my local gym as it sounded like something which I would really enjoy mainly because it involved lifting weights! However, unbeknown to me, the day I turned up for a class happened to be an extra special workout titled BODYPUMP 100. This workout marks the hundredth new release, marking 25 years since LES MILLS founded the class, so fitness clubs all over the world were celebrating the occasion with BODYPUMP100! Each BODYPUMP workout typically lasts about 1 hour using a barbell, with relatively low weights but high repetitions. Typically you hit about 800 reps in one class so expect to seriously feel the burn! Everyone in the class has a step, a mat, a small barbell (called a SMARTBAR), and four sets of plates 1kg, 2.5kg, 5kg and 10kg. You have the choice to lift as light or as heavy as you feel able to, and you can swap around the plates between exercises. Why lifting is the new running for the over-40s Six months ago I was having a middle aged meltdown. Juggling too many professional projects I wasnt sleeping properly and lackedfocus during the day. I felt weak and old and emotionally fragile -anything from a broken plate to a bank statement seemed to overwhelm me with panic. The treadmill running sessions I was doing were exhausting me and not shifting inches from the places I wanted them shifted (waist and thighs). So I did what any self-respecting Mid-Life-Crisis-ist would do: I got a personal trainer I couldnt afford. Six weeks laterI was sleeping better, felt more focused at work and my clothes were actually looser. Suzi Sorokova is a 24 year old trainer at the gym I frequent, Gymbox in Stratford, east London. During our first session, I expected sweat-filled jumpsbut instead got slow-refined weight lifting moves old-fashioned bar type squats and chin-ups. Though mortified and worried Id bulk up, six weeks laterI was sleeping better, felt more focused at work and my clothes were actually looser. We offer a variety of exercise classes which are held at the Rakow Center and Randall Oaks Recreation Center. All group exercise classes are free for Fitness Center Members and are available for men and women ages 12 years and older. For more information, call the Group Exercise Coordinator at (847) 428-7131 x2303. Classes are held in the Group Exercise Studio at Randall Oaks Recreation Center or the East/West Dundee Room at the Rakow Center unless otherwise noted. Group exercise class times include set-up and tear-down of equipment. If you are a new participant, please arrive five minutes before the scheduled class start time for initial instruction. Classes are not held when the Fitness Center is closed. If you arenota member of our Fitness Centers and would like to attend Group Exercise Classes, you can customize your workout program through our group exercise passes! These passes are good for all land exercise classes, so you can mix and match workouts to fit your needs. A CrossFitters Dear John Letter to BodyPump We are never, ever getting back together Since I discovered CrossFit in 2013, Ive been a complete loyalist. But let me be clear: I am not AGAINST other means to fitness. Im all about people finding what works for them and even I still dabble in the occasional yoga, step or spin class for fun. Today I took a BodyPump class. It was the first time Ive taken a group lifting class in two years although I supposed you could say thats exactly what I do every day at CrossFit. But there is no comparison as far as Im concerned. In fact, I found nothing but contrast. CrossFit and BodyPump last around an hour each. BodyPump moved quickly from a warm-up with weights to hitting each body part for 2-3 minutes. I started watching the clock and wondered, How many body parts are we going to cover? How can we spend the same amount of time isolating a small muscle like a bicep as we do on legs or core? There was nothing that pushed me to really break a sweat, raise my heart rate or leave me lying on the floor from exhaustion. A few people packed up before class even ended and the rest of us left silently when it was done. Within that 60 minute window at CrossFit Ive done a proper warm up, worked on mobility, performed a strength series, finished a METCON (metabolic conditioning workout) that left me breathless, cooled down, recorded my key stats and hi-fived my classmates on a job well done.
