Dodge Durango Questions - The Big Nut From The Water Pump To The Fan Which Way To Remove Clock W... - Cargurus

Look downward behind the fan and you'll see a large nut (about 1 7/16") attaching the fan clutch to the water pump pulley. You have to turn this bolt counter clockwise while keeping the water pump pulley from turning. There are 3 possible ways to do this. 1) Press down hard on the serpentine belt and hope it keeps the pulley from rotating with the nut. 2) Take of the serpentine belt and use a strap wrench to hold the pulley. 3) Make your own tool taking advantage of the holes drilled in the water pump pulley to hold it in place. Once that nut is broken loose, DON'T REMOVE it yet. There are four bolts to remove on the fan shroud. Two on the top and two underneath. Take all four out, pop the shroud out from the radiator, and move it over the fan. Now take the fan clutch nut the rest of the way off and lift out the fan, clutch, and shroud together." And this " I was able to get the fan clutch off using a 6" C-clamp on the water pump pulley and a 10" pipe wrench with the help of a cheater bar (metal pipe) for leverage on the pipe wrench. Crank the C-Clamp on as tight as possible on the water pump pulley but out of the way of the nut so you can lock the pipe wrench onto the nut. Use the pipe wrench and cheater bar to loosen the large fan nut. The pully (and C-clamp) will rotate initially until the C-clamp jams up against the engine block." 1981omobeel answered 2 years ago I just replaced mine last night without removing the belt or the shroud. I was able to get a vice grip tight enough to hold the pulley, but not tight enough to deny or damage the pulley. I placed this on the right side as you look down from the front of the truck. The vice grip straddled over the belt and did not grab it. I have a large crescent wrench that fit on the nut. It moved fairly easily. I also lo Continue reading >>

Dodge Ram 1500 Questions - Water Pump Already? - Cargurus

grab the cooling fan and if it moves back and fourth the bearing is shot which yes meens the water pump is also bad as well, now im not sure if this is true for the hemis, but on my 5.9 magnum were the water pump is there is a small hose that runs from the water pump housing to the thermostat housing, on my truck that hose deteriorated and it caused large amounts of coolant to leak all the time, the radiator could have a small leak in it, worst case scenario and highly unlikely is a partially cracked block. I try that thanks. It also looks to me as if the coolant is running down the block from the water pump area maybe its just a leaky gasket? thats very possible does the truck ever over heat? either way i would suggest doing a gasket job if you know how to do it your self i would make it RTV gasket maker on the water pump with a OEM gasket and then RTV gasket maker on the engine side (basically 3 gaskets) its the best sealing system around in my eyes. but also it could be the thermostat housing gasket (mind you im saying these things from what went wrong on my 96 5.9 magnum) im not too learned in the lay out of the hemis. check out that small hose in back of water pump, and thermostat. it had me replaceing the water pump, when it was that had a pin hole in it. Remove that hose first and inspect it properly. A five dollar hose. I have an 06 5.7 Hemi in my Dodge ram and its leaking coolant from the front of the motor hoses are tight. Only 38,000 miles on it. do you think it would be a water pump already? I have changed water pump on my 2000 dodge ram 1500 two times in the past 1 1/2 years. Could someone please tell me why they are not holding up? My 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup wont start and it sounds like metal on metal could it be my water pump going out 1998 Dodge Ram Continue reading >>

Find a high quality auto repair shop or dealer near you What are the symptoms related to a bad water pump? Water pumps require replacement if they begin to leak coolant or become noisy. Leaking water pumps can result in damage to the drive and timing belts, as well as cause the engine to overheat. A failed water pump can be caused by other problems in the cooling system, such as a failing thermostat, radiator, or head gasket. A worn water pump has far reaching effects. If the water pump is not maintaining proper coolant circulation the engine will overheat, causing leaks, possible head gasket damage, and ultimately a failed motor. Failure to shut down an engine while overheating will eventually cause stalling, necessitating a tow. How often do water pumps need to be replaced? Repair intervals vary greatly by vehicle and driving conditions. The water pump does not wear like a tire or a ball joint, but eventually the bearing or impeller can fail in the pump. When noisy, leaking, or unable to properly circulate coolant, the water pump needs to be replaced. RepairPal Recommendations for water pump issues Be sure to follow the specific procedures for your vehicle. Proper gasket handling, torque specs, and sealant usage are necessary for an effective repair. When refilling the cooling system, the manufacturer recommended coolant should be used. There are many bearing noises that could come from an engine bay. Proper care should be taken to diagnose them. The entire cooling systemincluding all of the coolant hoses and fittings, radiator, coolant fan(s), and fan clutch (if equipped)should be inspected when replacing the water pump. To help prevent future issues, we recommend replacing the thermostat when the cooling system has been opened for repairs (e.g. water pump or radiat Continue reading >>

Fix Coolant Leaks: 2011-2017 Ram 1500

We are still working to obtain content for your car, however the video above is believed to have similar characteristics as your car. Follow the steps in this video to see how to fix minor coolant (antifreeze) leaks in your 2011 Ram 1500. Leaking coolant is one of the more common types of fluid leaks on 1500s. Engine coolant (which is also called antifreeze or anti-freeze) moves through the inside of your 1500's engine and keeps it from overheating. Coolant can leak from the reservoir or from the hoses, in 2011 1500s with the 4.7 liter engine, coolant leaks are most likely to occur where the hoses connect to the engine. The video above shows you where the coolant reservoir, hoses and connections on your 2011 1500 SLT are located and the steps needed to fix minor leaks. A few things to note about coolant is that it is sweet tasting and highly toxic, so it can end up in the dog's stomach pretty quickly. If you ignore a small coolant leak long enough, you will run out of coolant, which leads to an overheated engine and other serious, but highly avoidable, problems. In many 2011 1500s, an anti-freeze leak can cause the temp sensor to record high engine temperatures. Always protect yourself with safety glasses and gloves when working with the coolant on your 1500. Aftermarket Water Pump Or Oem For 4.7?

When my water pump failed, I bought the new one from PepBoys and, although I don't remember what brand it was, Bosch sounds right. I was on my way to work and was very lucky it broke down right next to the PepBoys. I was able to go in, get the pump and a few other items, spend a couple of hours in the parking lot swapping it out, then another hour waiting for the seal to dry, and finally continued on to work. I think it's been about two years since then and I haven't had any problems. Dodge Ram 1500 Water Pump Replacement

Dodge Ram 1500 Water Pump Replacement

If you see coolant (green, red, or yellow fluid) underneath your car, have the cooling system inspected for leaks. Always keep up with the service intervals as specified by the manufacturer and get the coolant replaced. It is a good practice to get the coolant replaced every 50,000 miles. This will help ensure a long life for the water pump and the entire cooling system. What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Water Pump? Coolant (green, red or yellow fluid) is leaking. Why is replacing a broken water pump important? A cars engine generates so much heat that it can damage itself if it is not cooled down. To prevent this, your vehicle has a cooling system. The water pump is responsible for circulating coolant through the engine. This coolant absorbs heat from the engine, and is then cooled down by a fan. When the water pump malfunctions, the cooling system has no way of sending coolant into the engine, and the engine will overheat, which can cause severe damage. Fast and easy Water Pump Replacement service at your home or office. Backed by 12-month, 12,000-mile guarantee Continue reading >>

How Hard Is It To Replace A Water Pump?

How Hard Is It To Replace A Water Pump?

How hard is it to replace the water pump? I had the water pump go out a year and a half...maybe 2 years ago. Had a mechanic replace it for me because I didn't want to deal with it. Well, I have coolant dripping on my driveway again and I can see where it appears to be coming out of the weep holes on the water pump. *sigh* Looking through my Haynes manual it doesn't seem too terribly bad. I suppose I would do a coolant flush at the same time and check the belt real good. Just wondering how much time I need to allocate myself or if I should just take it back to the mechanic again. He gave me a great deal on it last time. Maybe that's why it's gone out again already. I cant say about the 4.7 to be honest with you bud, the 5.7 takes about an hour and a half. From what I remember think the 4.7 is lower on the motor and might be alill bit more of a reach. You can pull the cross front member out along with the rad to allow alot more room and make it easier on yourself. This will give you an idea the Rad was not pulled yet but it will allow you to step through the front of the truck to work. The rad support and everything should be about the same and just a few bolts. Continue reading >>

Help!! Dodge 4.7 Liter Engine Overheating - Flyinggiants

Help!! Dodge 4.7 Liter Engine Overheating - Flyinggiants

Re: Help!! Dodge 4.7 Liter Engine Overheating If it is getting hot while under a load, or driving on the expressway, you might have a restricted radiator. Another sign of the radiator being the problem is if it stays at it's normal operating temperature during city driving. This is because while under a load the engine produces more heat. This requires more cooling. If the radiator is restricted it can't handle the extra heat. Driving around the city doesn't create as much heat, so a restricted radiator may have provide enough cooling during those conditions. If you have an infared temp gun you can check for cool spots on your radiator. Where you have a cool spot, is where it's restricted or plugged. In most cases you will need to replace the radiator. Sometimes flushing it will work, but that depends on how plugged it is. Re: Help!! Dodge 4.7 Liter Engine Overheating that would be great but the computer on new cars remembers speed, rpm and a lot more, even in rental cars- don't ask me how i know this but they shut down at 105 mph ^^^^^Only some cars come with speed limiters, most domestic(US) cars do. The ones that have it are set at different speeds for different makes and models of cars, my '97 chevy shuts off at 100mph. If your problem is in the exhaust (espeacially if the catalytic converters are clogged) you can check if this your problem by matting the gas from a stop and if the car sputters or maybe even wants to cut off instead of going like its supposed to the exhaust is your problem. Re: Help!! Dodge 4.7 Liter Engine Overheating If the water pump, the thermostat (the correct one), and other extenal equipment such as fans, fan sensor, hoses external leaks, new fluid etc..have been verified, I would flow test the radiator. Be careful here though. Not everyone wh Continue reading >>

Coolant Leak---water Pump? 4.7

Coolant Leak---water Pump? 4.7

Driving to the marina today my check gauges alarm went off. Noticed my temperature climbing. Parked at the marina and noticed steam. Opened my hood and saw the overflow canister was empty and everything under the hood was wet. I let it cool off and then filled up the radiator (it was near empty as well) and the overflow with water. I then started it up and noticed a good drip from behind the harmonic balencer, which turned into a steady run. The water pump is above the balencer so I was thinking it had went and of course the water was following the path to the lowest point. Oh well figgured I need a water pump. Went home with no issues. Was going to go get a pump but decided one last check. Temperature didn't climb on my way home. Radiator and overflow are still full and I have no dripping. Hmmm. As of now the truck has no issues and I haven't done anything. On vehicles in the past I remember when the water pump went----it went.
