Topomax, Geodon, Metformin, and Lamictal have helped me. "You shouldn't be grateful to be normal. You are already normal. Your normal is just different. Talk to your doctor and ask your doctor to change your meds to something that will help you to lose some weight. Topomax, Geodon, Metformin, and Lamictal have helped me. You have to focus on your diet. Cut out sweets as much as you can. Control your portions. Sarah Seroquel is terrible. Tell your doctor the truth and tell them that if you're going to take medication it's going to make you gain weight and make you feel bad about yourself read more... that you're not going to take it. Part of good mental health is feeling good about yourself. What is the point of taking something if it's going to make you feel bad? I said that same thing to my psychiatrist and she agreed with me. As a patient you should be more involved in what kind of medication you're taking how those decisions are made and researching the kinds of drugs of your take. Good luck. And it's also important to place less importance on how you look on the outside and more importance on what you're like on the inside. 90% of what people see is what you projects. If you so beautiful on the inside people will see that. I think models get used to the idea that all they have to offer is there looks and that's not true. Find all the other good things about you that are wonderful and focus on those things and show people what else you have the world to offer. I'm pretty sure that you're probably still a very beautiful person." Continue reading >>

InStudy 1, eligible participants were given metformin alone for 3 days (500 mgtwice daily [BID]) followed by concomitant metformin and topiramate (titrated to 100mg BID) from days 4 to 10. In Study 2, eligible participants were randomlyassigned to treatment with pioglitazone 30 mg once daily (QD) alone for 8 daysfollowed by concomitant pioglitazone and topiramate (titrated to 96 mg BID) from days 9 to 22 (Group 1) or to topiramate (titrated to 96 mg BID) alone for 11 daysfollowed by concomitant pioglitazone 30 mg QD and topiramate 96 mg BID from days 12 to 22 (Group 2). An analysis of variance was used to evaluate differences inpharmacokinetics with and without concomitant treatment; 90% confidence intervals(CI) for the ratio of the geometric least squares mean (LSM) estimates formaximum plasma concentration (Cmax), area under concentration-time curve fordosing interval (AUC12 or AUC24), and oral clearance (CL/F) with and withoutconcomitant treatment were used to assess a drug interaction.RESULTS: A comparison to historical data suggested a modest increase intopiramate oral clearance when given concomitantly with metformin.Coadministration with topiramate red Continue reading >>

Weight Loss With Metformin & Topamax Together
Metformin is a generic drug taken orally to combat Type 2 diabetes because it reduces blood sugar levels. Topamax is an oral brand-name drug most often used as an anticonvulsant to treat epilepsy, but it is sometimes prescribed to reduce obesity. The two drugs are sometimes combined in efforts to control or lose weight, and their efficacy together is supported by research. Consult with your primary care physician before combining any medications. Video of the Day Metformin is a popular anti-diabetic drug, especially for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes in overweight and obese people with normal kidney function, according to the “Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties.” Metformin causes relatively few side effects and is associated with a low risk of hypoglycemia. Metformin also helps reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol levels and may reduce the risks of cardiovascular complications related to diabetes. It was introduced in the United States in 1995. Topamax is a brand-name drug based on the generic version topiramate. Topiramate is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat epileptic seizures because it deters convulsions, but it is also prescribed to prevent certain types of migraines and psychiatric disorders and to treat obesity. Generic topiramate became available in the United States in 2006. People with Type 2 diabetes are almost always overweight and frequently obese. Obesity increases the risk of diabetes because cells become resistant to the effects of insulin, which is a hormone secreted by your pancreas that shuttles sugar from the bloodstream to the cells so it can be burned for energy, according to the book “Human Physiology: An Integrated Approach.” People taking metformin to control their blood sugar levels sometimes combine it Continue reading >>

Topamax / Weight Loss - 3 Fat Chicks On A Diet Weight Loss Community
Dieting with Obstacles Those with special health concerns such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, pregnancy, etc can post here for extra support and help. I've got multiple sclerosis and have over 100 lbs to lose. My neurologist prescribed Topamax (the migrane medicine) because she said that she sees her patients losing weight from it - not lots - but a slow, steady weight loss from it. Now, I'd like to say that I have had resounding success with it but I have also had an MS flare-up that I had to go on steroids. So, needless to say, the steroids 'helped' me pack on some holiday pounds. Just wondered if any of you have heard of Topamax for weight loss? i took topamax for migraines.. and many people do lose while taking it .. but i didnt metformin which is a drug used to treat diabetes however, does make u lose weight... and is prescribed by many drs for weight loss.. (even without the person having diabetes) becuz when a person is quite heavy they often have insulin issues. my cousin took topamax for having seizers and she was a size 22 when she started. About less than a year she was down to a size 3 and ate just like she did before anything she wanted. That has been a few years ago and she is still thin. Her doctor told her she would lose a bunch of weight. Topamax is notorious for suppressing your appetite. However it has a bunch of other side effects so unless you have another good reason to be on it--like migraines or seizures, I don't recommend taking it for the appetite suppressing effects alone. I took topomax for severe fibromyalgia pain. I did lose some weight- but I ate a lot less. For me it didn't so much supress my appetite as make me not care that I was hungry all the time. I also became incredibly stupid. The drug has pretty severe frontal lobe effects. I couldn Continue reading >>

Topamax & Prozac For Weight Loss And Also Metformin
TOPAMAX & PROZAC FOR WEIGHT LOSS AND ALSO METFORMIN WHY DO SOME DOCTORS PRESCRIBE TOPAMAX AND PROZAC (TOGETHER WITH A DIET PLAN) FOR WEIGHT LOSS - THE PERSONS THAT I AM TALKING ABOUT DO NOT SUFFER FROM BULIMIA OR EATING BINGES OR DISORDERS? IS IT BECAUSE THE SIDE-EFFECT IS WEIGHT LOSS. ANOTER QUESTION IS THAT SOME DOCTORS PRESCRIBE METFORMIN FOR WEIGHT LOSS ALTHOUGH THE PERSON DOES NOT SUFFER FROM INSULIN RESISTANCE OR TYPE TWO DIABETES MELLITUS? Not what you were looking for? Try searching again, or ask your own question I must say that I am rather puzzled by these prescriptions. I can only surmise that the Topamax (which is actually an anti-epileptic drug) can cause weight decreases, but in patients who do not suffer from epilepsy I cannot imagine that this is a good idea as the drug has a long list of side-effects. Prozac as you quite correctly say, is a drug that can be used for bulimia, but it can also help to control obsessive-compulsive disorders, so if a patient overeats because of such a disorder, then Prozac may well help to curb the urge to eat. In patients with obesity there may well be a degree of insulin resistance which could warrant the use of Metformin, but if tests have shown that the patient is not insulin resistant or pre-diabetic, then its use is also not really necessary. I would rather go for a second opnion if you have been prescribed such treatments for weight loss as one needs to weigh up the potential side-effects of these drugs against the amount of weight that may be lost. I have been dealing with the side effects such as loss of appetite and tingling in my feet and feet getting cold and sometimes I just get really cold hands and feet.. but no migraines around the time of the month or anytime this month.. whohohooo!! I have heard topomax causes weight loss because you lose your appetite. I have no appetite for anything sweet and certainly no soda.. Anybody out there had any negative or positive experiences taking both topomax and metformin? I realize it has been a while since you posted this, but was wondering if you are still taking the medications and how it is working for you. I was also wondering if you have lost weight as I recently started topomax and am hoping to lose some weight as I need to lose about 100 pounds. I do feel a little funny with the medicine though. Thanks! I was SO glad to see this post as well! It's good to see someone else that has aversions to soda as well from the Topamax. I began taking Topamax for anxiety in October of 2009, and have lost about 30 pounds since I began. Being on Topamax, Metformin, and Byetta, I really and truly hate eating. I don't get sick or anything, it's just, I never feel hungry, and when I am hungry, there's very little food that I enjoy eating. Topamax is wonderful! :0) Topamax has been quite good to me, but I haven't had the wonderful weight loss.. more like weight has been holding constant... I still get one or two whopping migraines a day or Continue reading >>

Topiramate: Medlineplus Drug Information
Topiramate is used alone or with other medications to treat certain types of seizures including primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (formerly known as a grand mal seizure; seizure that involves the entire body) and partial onset seizures (seizures that involve only one part of the brain). Topiramate is also used with other medications to control seizures in people who have Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a disorder that causes seizures and developmental delays). Topiramate is also used to prevent migraine headaches but not to relieve the pain of migraine headaches when they occur. Topiramate is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Topiramate comes as a tablet, a sprinkle capsule (capsule that contains small beads of medication that can be sprinkled on food), and an extended-release (long-acting) capsule to take by mouth. The tablets and sprinkle capsules are usually taken with or without food once or twice a day. The extended-release capsules are usually taken with or without food once a day. Take topiramate at around the same time(s) every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take topiramate exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. There is another medication with a name similar to the brand name for topiramate. You should be sure that you receive topiramate and not the similar medication each time you fill your prescription. Be sure that the prescription your doctor gives you is clear and easy to read. Talk to your pharmacist to be sure that you are given topiramate. If you think you were given the wrong medication, talk to your pha Continue reading >>

Metformin And Topamax Weight Loss
So my gdoc put me on 500 mg of Metformin ER because I have high blood sugar and my pdoc put me on 50 mg 2x daily Topamax for mood stabilization. I was wondering what sort of weight loss I could expect from this combo of two drugs commonly used for weight loss individually. I work out daily for about an hour to an hour and a half. I take 200mg of chlorpromazine, 300mg of Lamictal, 100mg Topamax, 10mg Abilify, 500mg Metformin ER and 45mg Buspirone. I weigh 175 lbs right now and ideally I would lilke to lose around 15lbs in the next several months. It has been impossible to lose with the chlorpromazine and I am wondering if the Topamax and Metformin will help. Well I weigh considerably more than you...but I am on both of those medications...metformin (2000mg) and Topamax (150mg). I am on the metformin for PCOS and Insulin Resistance. And Topamax for appetite suppression. When I first started Metformin a few years ago I lost about 7 ib on it. Then so far on the Topamax (I just got to the dose I am on recently) I have lost 5ib. (I am hoping to lose more as my appetite decreases). So I would just expect to lose as your calorie intake decreases. I will say they are not miracle weight loss meds, at least in my case. Good luck! I am on metformin and topamax, too, along with other meds. I am on 1000 mg metformin. I don't think it has had any effect on my weight but my glucose values are much better. I was too activated on 100 mg topamax, so I take 50 mg. I do think it helps with cravings. By my scale I am just maintaining, which for me over the holidays is good. My doctor says I lost 5 lbs in about 8 weeks, but I was weighing higher on her scale before. I had been losing before I started the meds by counting calories and moving more. Life got hectic and I stopped logging my food Continue reading >>

Efficacy Of Metformin And Topiramate In Prevention And Treatment Of Second-generation Antipsychotic-induced Weight Gain.
Ann Pharmacother. 2010 Apr;44(4):668-79. doi: 10.1345/aph.1M550. Epub 2010 Mar 16. Efficacy of metformin and topiramate in prevention and treatment of second-generation antipsychotic-induced weight gain. University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy, 60612, USA. To review the literature describing the efficacy of metformin and topiramate for the treatment of second-generation antipsychotic-induced weight gain. Articles were identified by searching the MEDLINE database (from 1949 through January 2010) using the key words metformin, topiramate, antipsychotic, weight, weight gain, and obesity. All randomized, placebo-controlled trials of metformin and topiramate were selected for review. Weight gain due to second-generation antipsychotic use is a concern due to the risk of long-term metabolic and cardiovascular effects with these agents. These effects include obesity, hyperglycemia, and insulin resistance, all of which may contribute to diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Second-generation antipsychotics vary in the degree to which they cause weight gain, and dietary and lifestyle changes may not be feasible or sufficient in counter-acting this weight gain. Although other pharmacologic agents may be beneficial to prevent and treat antipsychotic-induced weight gain, metformin and topiramate have been the most extensively studied in this setting. Metformin acts peripherally to cause weight loss, while topiramate acts centrally. Review of 11 randomized, controlled trials demonstrates beneficial effects of metformin and topiramate in prevention and treatment of weight gain. Metformin is generally well tolerated and has been studied in pediatric patients, while topiramate is associated with more drug interactions and may possibly interfere with control of schizophreni Continue reading >>
