So, maybe when suddenly metabolizing fats when that is not ordinarily happening much, as in eating a "normal" diet (or at least not ketogenic) and then suddenly fasting.
    No other way to explain why this does NOT happen with keto-adaptation, as observed by Dr. Phinney. It is NOT simply a matter of metabolizing fats producing uric acid. Keto-adapted folks are metabolizing MORE fat than anyone else but uric acid does not go up. If one is ADAPTED to digesting fat, as in ketosis, no such thing happens. As Dr. Phinney observed in this "thousands" of patients doing LCHFKD, once stabilized (adapted), uric acid was LOWER or the same as it was previously.
    Again, this can happen for a short period DURING the process of adaptation, but does not happen after that. How/why is that? I have no idea, but it is observed reality.
    Let's beware of starting an urban legend here!
    The excretion issue is irrelevant since in a keto-adapted state, there is no elevated uric acid to begin with.

    I was on a low carb diet for 3 months, around 20-30g of carbs per day, and I did NOT get keto adapted. Last blood test I had before I had to stop it showed URIC ACID level of 8.1 and I experienced WHOLE BODY gout pains all over.. in virtually every joint, including the typical locations in big toe and elbows.
    I also had problems urinating. Felt I had to go all the time and barely anything came out. Also kidney's and tubes between bladder and kidney ached.. I am sure it must of been small stones.
    I had to stop the diet because I couldn't take it anymore.
    I am doing the diet again, but injecting insulin this time to keep blood sugar in 80-95 range all day if possible (instead of the 105-140 range wihtout any insulin).
    Hoping this provides better clearance.
    Also hoping this allopurinol is going to help.
    I am not starting any "urban legend".
    Phinney/Volek say medication is needed for gout sufferers before starting LCHF diet. I'll get you the references if you want. I didn't know I was a gout sufferer until AFTER i started the LCHF (for those three months).
