Ttc For 9+ Years - Any Metformin Success Stories
Another newby to the site, i must have seen this site over a thousand times due to the amount of on-line questions i have had over the years. Me and my fiance have been trying to convieve for over 9 years now, i was diagnosed with PCOS when i was in my teens. I have always struggled with my weight, never being fully successful in losing enough for IVF. I have been under the gyno for over 9 years, always to be told to go away and lose 2 stone. It got to much for me so i discharged myself from seeing them to give myself a break from it all. I went back in June 2015 to start things up again, turning 30 in Oct 14 really made me panic about how i am still struggling to concieve so decided enough was enough i needed better help than i was getting over the past 9 years. When i went back i was finally referred to the diabities centre (wasnt informed that Metformin could help PCOS until this point) I went to my appt in July 15 and was put on Metformin, 500mg a day first week then i went up to 1500mg a day. I have stuck to Slimming World and now lost 2s 2.5lb. I think the Metformin has been a huge help with the weight loss. I just want to know if there is anyone who was on Metformin for over 5 months and still had success in getting pregnant, now i have lost the weight i feel it could happen soon but keep getting my hopes up, its driving me insane! Any Pcos Weight Loss Success Stories?
Hi, I am 23 years old and about 9 months ago I was told I have PCOS. I believe I have had it since I started having periods since I had many of the symptoms. The only symptom I never experienced (until recently) was weight gain. All growing up I was a very small child and throughout high school I was the same. My highest weight in high school was no more that 110lbs. I have never struggled with weight, until a few years ago. After I got married (and our eating habits only changed for the better) and shortly before marriage, I started putting on the pounds. Quickly! Within 5 months I had put on 30lbs then three months later 40 more! I couldn't believe my eyes. I never had this issue before! That's when I saw my OB, after being diagnosed I was told I needed to lose weight because thats what caused the PCOS, but I don't believe it, it just doesn't add up to me. Why the sudden weight gain? They lectured me and lectured me because I want to get pregnant and am obese now. All I have been told so far is I have to lose the weight, but I am exercising and eating right and I see nothing! I was put on Metformin 500mg 2X a day after being diagnosed and I have seen no change in weight or facial hair! I am frustrated because I hate the way I feel being this large. I guess my main question is are there ANY success stories out there of women losing weight with PCOS and taking metformin? I could really use some encouragement. I want so bad to start our family, but if I am this uncomfortable being my weight now, I fear how I will feel being pregnant. Continue reading >>

Ask your doctor maybe. Good luck. Those same studies show that patients who receive the placebo also lose weight. This phenomenon is likely due to the patients being in a clinical trial knowing they will have frequent physician visits where their weight will be recorded. This is often seen in clinical studies. That being said, it's easy to imagine that as your blood glucose levels don't experience the same swings, you will find it easier to control your appetite. I've lost over 100 lbs - all while on metformin - and to me the secret is to eat small meals frequently. Do not let yourself get too hungry. janesmith1 Posts: 2,073Member Member Posts: 2,073Member Member No good evidence suggests that Atkins accomplishes either. Prevention: Research into Atkins or other low-carb diets is sparse. Frequent spikes and dips in blood glucose after carb-heavy meals can, according to Atkins literature, lead to insulin resistance, a frequent precurs Continue reading >>
Metformin And Weight Loss
Oral antihyperglycemic drug Metformin is one of the most prescribed antidiabetic drugs in the UK, Canada and the USA. For several decades, Metformin is used for the first line therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes. Metformin story is not restricted only by the diabetes treatment. Between 1998 and 2015, the influence of Metformin on weight loss was studied.Reliable study results of Metformin and weight loss are published in different biomedical literature, including free science journal PubMed. In addition, reviews about Metformin and weight loss can be found on authors blogs and online forums (obesity forums as well). Contradictory information about Metformin is published in the results of clinical studies and reviews. Studies demonstrate that Metformin often promotes weight loss. However, weight-reducing effect of Metformin is poorly pronounced. Therefore, this hypoglycemic drug is ineffective when treating obesity. A lot of success stories confirming that Metformin and weight loss it is not a myth, but a reality can be found in the reviews of diabetics. Given the fact that reviews about Metformin are published by anonymous authors; such comments raise reasonable doubts. Negative effect of these stories is that the desire to use Metformin to combat overweight and obesity arises in non-diabetic patients. In recent years, reviews about Metformin and weight loss have been published by women, who use this drug to control the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).Metformin can actually stimulate ovulation, but it is not approved to treat PCOS. Therefore, non-diabetics women with PCOS use Metformin off-label.Information about Metformin and weight loss can be interesting both for obese diabetics and for non-diabetic patients with overweight or obesity. The results of Continue reading >>
Pcos Success Stories Please??
Hi anyone have success stories with PCOS? I posted this over a week ago in the PCOS forum about gluten free mama's...I am now 6w3d and feeling the sweet torture of non-stop nausea that makes my heart soar! This got long, but here it is! Count me in the unexpectedly pregnant after going gluten free category! I am 36 now and we began TTC when I was 26. I knew at that time that I had PCOS and that it would be difficult. We tried on our own for a bit to no avail and then started working with a fertility specialist. Long story short I escalated from Metformin, to Metformin and Clomid, to injectables. I had 3 successful IUIs and 3 conceptions that happened with medication and no IUI. All 6 resulted in early losses. I had low progesterone on some, and used progesterone suppositories on 4 of the 6, but it did not help. 3 years ago we decided to stop trying. The hormones from the injectables were so bad on my body and mind. I swung from incredibly weepy to furious at the drop of a hat, and gained about 60 pounds in a year. It was taking a heavy toll on my psyche to keep feeling "so close" just to end in sadness. About a year ago I decided to try a paleo-ish diet. I ate paleo about 80-90% of the time. I saw big improvements in my mood and weight started to slowly come off (weight loss is never easy with PCOS, for me anyway). Around my 36th birthday in September I got fed-up with the amount of medication I was on and spoke to my primary about going off everything and managing through food and lifestyle changes with the help of a naturopath. I stopped taking Metformin, Spironolactone, and Minocycline, and antibiotic I had been taking for 20 years due to cystic acne. Immediately I got a couple of cysts on my forehead and started to get nervous. I learned through my tests ordered th Continue reading >>
Any Success Stories On Metformin For Pcos?
Hello Ladies! I have been posting for a few months now with my updates. So the latest and greatest...but firstjust a refresher,I stopped BCand DH have been TTC since May 2012. Still no AF. I went to my GYN and she tested me for everything. I was diagnosed with PCOS. I am overweight and i am on a diet and exercising. Already down 10lbs! Anyway, she prescribed Metformin to lower my hormone levels and hopfeully start AF and O. So far, nada... I started metformin on Sept 19, so it hasn't really been a month yet but i started with 500mg and a week later 1000mg now im up to 1500mg. The only side effects that Ive been having thus far is diarrhea, cramping, slight headaches, and very little help with weight loss i guess you can say. So i was just wondering, is there any success stories that could relate? How long did it take you to get BFP? How long should I stay on Metformin before saying something to my gyn for the next possible step? Sorry for all the info and questions, this is all new to me... Continue reading >>
Best Way To Reverse Insulin Resistance
The Diabetes Prevention Program was a large, multi-centered study which involved over 3,000 adults who were pre-diabetic. Researchers split the subjects into three groups. The first group was told "You are pre-diabetic, lose weight" but no care or suggestions to accomplish this were offered to the subject. The second group was given the medication Metformin, which is a medication for diabetes. The major function of Metformin is to improve insulin sensitivity, and the subjects were treated only by adding the medication. The subjects of the last group were given specific instructions on diet and exercise and were monitored regularly. The group that progressed to diabetes first was the no-instruction group. The Metformin treated group had a 31% reduction in the progression of diabetes. The group that did the best with a 58% reduction in the progression of diabetes was the lifestyle change group. My practice was created to provide this comprehensive lifestyle treatment. When medication is added to this lifestyle treatment, I find the effects are synergistic. In summary, Insulin Resistance is a common metabolic condition that most people who struggle with weight have, and often are not aware of it. It is absolutely treatable and treatment is necessary to allow weight loss and long term weight maintenance. Our program was created and designed to reverse this condition, to help you lose weight and gain improved health. Pcos Success Stories
Hello, I was just recently diagnosed with pcos a month ago. I have been on metformin for about 2.5 weeks now and I am trying to be very hopeful that this is going to work. Anyone have luck with just metformin? I know I need to lose weight too. I would love to hear anyones success story. We have only been trying for 6 months now, but due to the pcos have not had 6 cycles to try. Hi! I was diagnosed with pcos a few months ago and I was immediately put on Metformin. It tore up my stomach for a while until I got used to them. They also assisted me in losing about 25 pounds, but it stopped there with weight loss. They changed my cycle from 40 days to 35. I have gotten pregnant on them but still miscarried Doc believes due to low progesterone and a lutal phase defect so Im now also taking Vitex 4x a day. Vitwx changed my cycle from 35 days to 23 and is supposed to help with ovulation, progesterone etc. So im praying we get pregnant and the Vitex has helped my ovulation. Not a really good success story but my experience on Metformin. Hope this helps! I tried for a year to conceive my first, until I was (finally) diagnosed with PCOS and I started metformin. I got pregnant the very first cycle on it. I had lost about 60-70 pounds over the year we were ttc so that helped I'm sure, but the metformin was the game changer. I was diagnosed with PCOS in college. My husband and I tried for a year before seeing a specialist. He didn't believe that I would have trouble. I used chlomid and a trigger shot and we did times intercourse for 6 months. We then started chlomid a trigger shot and IUI. We had success with that. I am not almost 20weeks pregnant. I have PCOS and we are trying without medical intervention. I found premama fertility online and heard it's great for women with PCOS. If Continue reading >>

I just wanted to share my good news for those of you who are on metformin and are wondering about how it will work for you... I started showing symptoms of PCOS about a year ago. My weight skyrocketed from 125 to 150 in 2 months, hair started growing on my sideburns, chin, nipples, and lower abdomen. I stopped getting a period on my own, so my doctor gave me provera every three months to induce one. I was doing my own research and started low-carbing, and I also heard a lot of great things about metformin, so I went to my doctor and insisted she refer me to a gynecologist. I don't know why she didn't do it sooner, but my gyn immediately gave me a metformin prescription and since DH and I are TTC, she told me to stop taking provera for the next six months. I started metformin on May 24th and on June 3rd, I got a period on my own for the first time in a year! I am now charting my temperature and have yet to determine if I'm ovulating or not...I guess I'll know in a couple of weeks! I wanted to share my story because I remember how anxious I was when I first started taking met and I was looking for anything that would give me some optimism that it would work. Good luck to all! I never had such luck on Metformin. I have PCOS which led to me having diabetes (had loads of fasting tests until one proved positive on 16th Nov 2001) Anyway they put me on 1500mg of Metformin for PCOS and my diabetes - it actually stopped my periods........ and did nothing for me apart from makin Continue reading >>
Rayane Lost 80 Pounds
You are here: Home / Before and After Photos / Rayane lost 80 pounds Ive got another story from someone with PCOS for you tonight. Rayane lost 80 pounds over the course of 11 months with calorie counting and food logging with My Fitness Pal. Here is what she shared with us: I have been contemplating on submitting my story on your page for months and I thought now is the time. Mine is a bit long and drawn out but I just hope it will encourage someone else. I have never been small, but I was never as big until 2012. In November 1998, I ended up in the hospital for abnormal bleeding and had to recieve a D&C to stop it and get 2 units of blood. In August of 1999, I ended up back in the hospital for the same thing and had to have another 2 units of blood. I was put on the depo shot, and in 6 months I gained 50 pounds as a result of that medicine. Needless to say, I didnt get another shot. From that day on, I kept gaining weight and my cycles were still bad. It took until 2005 for my doctor to figure out that I had Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome. That is what was causing my bad cycles. It made it hard for me to lose weight no matter how hard I tried. I was put on medicine and birth control to control my issues. Then in December of 2011, I that decided come January 1, 2012 I was done. I was going to do whatever I could to lose the weight. At my highest I was 265 pounds and it was Feburary of 2011. I started working out and watching what I ate. I use Myfitnesspal to keep track of what I ate and counting calories. Its not really a diet i just changed my lifestyle. I workout, Ieat alot of baked or grilled chicken. No white sugar, flour, rice, pasta. Only whole wheat or whole grain. Protein helps as well. I cheat once a week maybe but I get back on the grind. Most importantly I drin Continue reading >>
Any Pcos Success Stories Out There?
Hello beautiful strangers! I am so excited to share that I got my period. It is such a small success, but this is the third in a row, on time (ON TIME! For me, that is so so so rare) and without any medication. My husband and I are trying to have a baby and here in Spain the doctors don't do much for PCOS; I went a whole year with no period and felt like a failure as a woman. It's not a baby, but it means my body is working more normally and my doctor believes that if we keep trying and being patient we will get pregnant. So, small victories, but everything is a big miracle. I wish you all the best of healing luck and know you are not alone on this journey! Your post brought tears to my eyes because you are me almost 3 years ago. I hope my story can you bring you some encouragement and hope! My husband and I were married at the time for 7 years and had been together for a total of 12 years. After getting married like most couples we wanted to spend the first year just being together. I always had issues with irregular cycles but no doctor ever expressed any concerns about it so neither did I. It was not until after the first 3 years of marriage we had not conceived yet, I went to an OB/GYN who then at the time told me I had PCOS......I had no clue what that was only that he told me in order to conceive I would have to take metformin, me not knowing any better at the time I took the the prescription home cried and told my husband that this would be the only way to have a baby. Him being the supportive husband he is said okay but the medication made me sooo sick so I stopped taking the medicine and decided to research PCOS. I thought there has to be another more natural way. During my time of research I met a lady at the local Christian book store who out of the blue cam Continue reading >>
Any Fat Pcos Women Who Got Pregnant Naturally?
I'm having treatment and losing weight but wondered if there are any success stories to cheer me up! After 12 months of trying my doctor sent me for tests in march which confirmed I had PCOS. I had started to lose wieght before it was confirmed (was 17 stone in Jan but dropped two stone by April) but the doctor told me that it was going to be a struggle for me to concieve. Three weeks after the diagnosis I was feeling a little rough and was a few days late, did a test which came back positive. I am now at 28 weeks all going fine. I get the feeling my body just want to prove the doctor wrong, won't ever forget the phone call telling him I had fertility drugs first time around. Second and third pregnancies were natural but I had very early miscarriages. Fourth time was natural and DS2 is 4 months. Are you taking metformin? My PCOS specialist regards it as a highly effective fertility drug as well as treatment for PCOS. I took it throughout both pregnancies. Since having DS2 I've lost a lot of weight and am no longer overweight. Hi, I have PCOS, I'm not especially fat def but not skinny PCOS either. Diagnosed around 6 years ago, no cycles at all after I came off pill. Lost 1.5 stone (that was all I needed to loose) following the PCOS diet book by Colette Harris did the foresight programme, had weekly acupuncture and went to gym 3 times a week; that was enough to conceive naturally. Was offered metformin but decided that wanted to try drug free route first instead. 14 stone/5 foot 2 PCOS sufferer here - i.e. very overweight! Was prepared by entire medical profession for terrible traumas getting pregnant - especially as I was 30 when I started trying so add in being "old" to the fertility mix! Fell pregnant first month of trying both times and have a 3 year old and 10 week Continue reading >>
