Ingredients Directions Put potatoes, onions, carrots, celery, and garlic in a 5-quart or larger crockery slow cooker. Drain juice and reserve juice from tomatoes. Coarsely chop tomatoes and add to slow cooker. Top with sauerkraut. In a glass measuring cup, combine apple juice, reserved tomato juice, caraway seeds, and pepper. Pour over sauerkraut. Do not stir. Top with pieces of turkey kielbasa. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 9 hours or on high for 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours. To serve, pile sauerkraut and vegetables onto a large platter. Top with pieces of kielbasa. Serve hot. Contrary to popular belief, people with diabetes aren’t restricted to special diabetic foods, and they don’t have to follow any specific meal plan. Just like anyone else, those living with diabetes should consume meals that include lean protein, non-starchy vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats and fruit, and should maintain diets low in saturated and trans fat, and moderate in salt and sugar. But there are some additional things to consider at meal-time. For instance, according to a study published in 2015 in The Journal of Nutrition, for people with diabetes, eating more protein at breakfast can help stabilize blood glucose levels after both breakfast and lunch. Check out these three protein-powered breakfasts that are a tasty and nutritious way to pump up your morning protein intake. Healthy hint: If you’re on Nutrisystem, count these morning must-haves as one breakfast or, if you’d rather enjoy them as snacks, one PowerFuel and one SmartCarb each ( as pretty much the perfect flex meals). Diabetic Lemon Chicken Recipe

Preparation time: 5 minutes. Cooking time: 30 minutes. 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast (4 pieces) Preheat oven to 375F. Tear off a piece of aluminum foil thats large enough wrap up all four pieces of chicken. Spray the aluminum foil with nonstick cooking spray (on one side only), and lay the chicken breasts on the sprayed foil. Drizzle with olive oil. Grate 1 tablespoon of lemon zest and set aside. Juice the lemon, removing the seeds. Pour lemon juice over chicken, then sprinkle chicken with lemon zest, onion powder, white pepper, and oregano. Fold the aluminum foil over the chicken and roll the edges of the foil together to make a sealed packet. Place packet on a jelly roll pan or in a large, shallow casserole dish. Bake 30 minutes. Remove from oven and carefully open foil, using tongs to remove chicken to serving plate. Yield: 4 servings. Serving size: One 4-ounce breast.
