I'm a newly Dx T2 trying to get in habit of taking medications. I forgot to take yesterday. Do i take 2 today? How do i make up for my forgetfulness? Also, is there a 'best' time for me to take the single dose? I wouldn't try to make up the forgotten dose, just take your dose today as you normally would. To get in the habit of taking your meds, I'd suggest your taking it just after you eat your breakfast. You could take it at the same time you brush your teeth. If nothing else, leave yourself a sticky note on your mirror in the bathroom where you'll see it each time you look in the mirrow. You could also get put an extra metformin or two in your meter case, that way if you forget and then think of it later, you'll have one to take. I take mine twice daily. I take one just after brushing my teeth in the morning (I don't have any problems taking it w/o food) and my second dose I take just after brushing my teeth before bedtime). As for when to take the one dose, if you have trouble with your morning #'s be Continue reading >>

I fell asleep last night and forgot my metformin dose. Should I take it this morning or write it off until tonight? My fsb was 87 this morning.

You take 500 mg/day which isn't much. The maximum dosage is 2000 mg of the ER. I'd go ahead and take it since your next isn't until this evening.

If I've only missed one dosage, I take it when I remember, or if I don't catch it until the next dose is due, I take both at once. This results in me taking 2000mg of metformin all at once, but I've had not ANY ill effects from it.
Dunno what distracted me yesterday, but I took no meds at all - missed both morning and night. So this morning I took last night's pills along with today's morning pills, but yesterday morning meds are just gone. Weird thing is, I slept for 13 hours last night. Mebbe it's my meds that are keeping me awake!

You'd be okay to double the dose if you didn't have the GI side effects. If your body can tolerate it, you can actually take 4 pills at once.

  2. LUVINPURPLE

On missing a dose, the doctor I used to work for told to take the missed dose when I remembered UNLESS it was close to the next dose and then just skip it. You should probably discuss this with your doctor, though.

First it would be best to talk to your doc about it, but in general doubling up on a dose wont hurt just remember that any side effects you have with a single dose might be amplified by taking double.
I'll say this, for me I do not take it with food and when I don't I find I do not have the side effects, or what side effects I do have are lessoned a great deal, so for me taking it with food is the worse thing (my endro knows this, doesn't like it, but as long as I take it and he see's results he's alright with me taking it without food).

I understand it takes a while to kick in, which would lead me to believe it doesn't really matter if I take my evening dose at 6:00 or 8:00 or 10:00 pm, does it? And if I miss one, doubling up the next shouldn't matter? Should it? I am looking for either some reassurance that flexible is OK, or a kick in the pants to get on an every 12 hours is how you take 2 pills a day type schedule. Occasionally missing one is not going to matter. I personally take one pill before bed (around 11-12) and then one as soon as I wake up (around 7-8) and I do it intentionally, so more times passes BEFORE breakfast as in the morning I'm more insulin resistant. This regime works for me the best. I can even have a small piece of bread (with the lowest carb count) for breakfast. But I'm lucky that Metformin doesn't cause me any gastro problems and I don't need to take it with food. Also I experimented with taking half a pill or doubling my dose and nothing really happened. So IMO - no need to worry, relax It's not critical whe Continue reading >>
