I went to Walmart on Wednesday and got some BD syringes. I got the 1/2 ml 1/2 inch 30 gauge. It's the longer needle and guess whathave not had 1 bruise yet. Not a one. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes. My husband looked at me really funny when I bought the longer needles, but like I told himdoesn't matter short or long, they both pierce the skin the same way, and no more bruises!!! Thanks for everyone's advicesuper appreciate it. I am also a Lantus user and use the BD Ultrafine II 8mm (short) 31 gauge needle syringe. I find them to be very painless when injecting, as long as I remember to let the insulin come to room temperature. I have started to roll the syringe between my hands for a minute or two to ensure that it's at room temperature before injecting. I have gotten some mild bruising, but nothing too terrible. They don't hurt, just look nasty, that's about it. BD syringes are available with original needles (1/2" or 12.7mm) and short needles (5/16" or 8mm). BD Pen Needles are available in 1/2" (12.7mm), 5/16" (8mm) and 3/16" (5mm) lengths. I told him my sugar was 500 and I needed the bag - I always buy them by the bag at the Walgreens close to my home- it was closed...Paul Rosales asked to see my insulin!! The past three years, I have had constant problems with Walgreen's on Madison Ave, in Sacramento not filling my prescriptions when they said they would. Other times, there was twice where I get an automated call that my prescriptions are filled and to pick them up. But when I get there, they weren't filled so I had to wait over two hours in pain. There were three other times that when I tried to get a prescription. They had to request a tar to my insurance and when I would call every few days, I come to find out they forgot to request the tar or they said they would do it again. But days later, again they didn't request it at all when investigating and then it took close to a month to finally get the meds while I'm the one suffering! Now to this date on March 5th on Monday, I called to make sure two prescriptions would be filled by the 8th in the morning so I could pick them up. I come to find out that someone wrote in that I had my prior prescription of Valium picked up on the 12th when I picked it up on the 8th and had proof. But she didn't really care what I had to say, even though I tried to show proof. After much talk, she kept insisting that my insurance would pay it on the 9th. I repeatedly explained to make sure to have the prescriptions filled and be ready that day then. I call around 10:00 Friday the 9th and come to find out only one was filled, and not the Valium and would take around 1:30 or so to be filled. I explained to the guy that it should have been ready and why so long? He said they were busy, but I would have to wait even though I called four days prior to make sure it would be ready! Never been turned down from east to west coasts I've read online that it depends on what state you're in and have seen people claim that they were turned down in the United States because it's left up to the pharmacist's discretion. The idea of an intravenous drug user being denied access to needles/syringes based on one's suspicion of them being used for drug use is ridiculous, though. If someone's made the decision to put something into their body, they should at least have easy, straight-forward access to clean equipment. It is nowhere near as complicated over here. The U100 designation means the syringe is marked in units--up to 100. The gauge is the diamater of the needle, and the 5/16th inch is the length of the needle. I was wondering what brand of syringes you all consider the best? I am almost out of the 30g Reli-On I'e used since being diagnosed. I like them because they have half-units. What would you all recommend? Do they make syringes lower than 30g? Do all brands of syringes use half units? On a side note, I use the BD 29g pen needles. Does the lower gage make for better comfort? Yep, the smaller the number the TEEEEEEnier the needle. But there could come a time you want longer needle simply to get into you far enough. I use the BD 31 for Lantus and the NovoFine 32 for Novolog. I like the Relion 31 ga short needle 3/10 syringes. I'm not aware of any smaller than that. The higher the gauge the thinner the needle. You can get 32 gauge insulin needles. I haven't used them, yet. I don't know if your brands and my brands correlate, but I first started off on, I think, Terumo. I got sick of wonky needles, some were downright crooked. I've used BD or Novofine ever since, no particular complaints. As for the size/length, get a few, play around. You might find one is a lot better than another. For my body, 5 mm length is too short and I get painful lumping. And, it's not for an obvious reason, it just works out that way. 8 mm is about right for me, for small shots (which is all I take these days, anyway, I split larger ones). BD make 30 unit needles, no half unit markings. Not sure if they would be a hassle next to the ones you are using.
