Home Stem Cell Therapy Treatable Diseases Diabetes Insulin is a very important hormone that is produced by the pancreas and helps to keep the bodys blood sugar (glucose) levels in check. Diabetes is caused when there is an imbalance of insulin in the body. Following are the types of Diabetes: Type 1 Diabetes: This is usually diagnosed during childhood where the body makes very little or no insulin. In conventional therapy, there is only a way to maintain the right levels of insulin with daily injections. Type 2 Diabetes: In this condition, the body becomes resistive to insulin and the pancreas lose the capability to make enough insulin which is required to keep blood glucose levels normal. This is usually because of incorrect diet, lack or exercise or being overweight. Most diabetics suffer from Type 2 Diabetes. There is another type of Diabetes called Gestational Diabetes, which mostly occurs in women during pregnancy. Stem Cell Treatment can be used for both, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. The long-term goals of are to: Prevent diabetes-related complications such as blindness, heart disease, kidney failure and amputation of limbs Bring blood glucose levels under control with oral hypoglycemics This can be observed in the following published literature: Continue reading >>

State Of Art Stem Cell Diabetes Therapy In India
State of the Art Stem Cell Diabetes Therapy in Mumbai, India Autologous mesenchymal stem cellsare transfused backinto the body through a simple blood transfusion. These cells have the ability to repair the damaged tissues. Mesenchymal stem cellshave theability to give rise toinsulin secretingB cells. We at Advanced Health are treating both Diabetes Type I and Type II patients who are insulin dependent. The hypothesis is that the stem cells when transfused go and forminsulin secretingB cells in the pancreas and henceexogenousrequirement of insulin goes down. Success rates depend on the patients current status. Thesuccess ratio of this therapy is a remarkable 60 to 70%in which there is normalization of blood sugar levels with reduction of insulin, tocomplete independence from insulin injections. Diabetic Stem Cell Therapy Inmumbai
A lifestyle disorder that mainly affects the glucose metabolism in the body is called diabetes. The food we consume is broken down into glucose before it enters the bloodstream. Our body derives energy from this glucose. The metabolism of glucose is regulated by a hormone called insulin. This hormone is secreted by cells in the pancreas. When the regularity of the insulin flow gets affected, it causes diabetes. There are two kinds of this disorder. The type I disorder is a kind of autoimmune disease where the insulin-producing cells in the body are destroyed. Low levels of insulin alter the glucose metabolism. The type II disorder is more of a lifestyle one that is characterised by a spike in blood sugar levels due to decreased amount of insulin. It is a chronic disorder that can be caused due to a sedentary lifestyle, genetic inheritance or poor diet. Stem Cell Therapy as an alternative to conventional treatments Currently, insulin injections are the most common treatment methodology for diabetes. In some cases, islet transplantation or replacement of the pancreas through transplantation have proven to be favourable. But it comes with the associated risk factors like organ rejection and immune suppression. Stem cell therapy for diabetes is a novel treatment technique. The advantages of using stem cells from the patients body are many. Stem cell therapy is common in most major cities in India. For both types of diabetes, stem cell therapy in Mumbai and other big cities are popular. Stem cell therapy for diabetes- How its done? Research has shown that the stem cells in a diabetic patients pancreas are capable of synthesising new beta cells. For this type of diabetes, stem cells (mesenchymal) are injected into a diabetic patient. The injected stem cells have the ability Continue reading >>

Can Stem Cells Reverse Type 2 Diabetes As Well?
Can stem cells reverse Type 2 diabetes as well? ANI | Updated: Mar 20, 2015, 01:38 PM IST A new study has revealed for the first time, that stem cells could reverse Type 2 diabetes too. Earlier it had been revealed by UBC, that stem cells could reverse Type 1 diabetes in mice. Now, the research conducted by scientists at University of British Columbia and BetaLogics, part of Janssen Research and Development, LLC, has found how Type 2 diabetes could be effectively cured with a combination of specially-cultured stem cells and conventional diabetes drugs. Type 2 diabetes usually occurs in adulthood, accounting for more than 90% of diabetes cases, often due to poor diet, lack of exercise and obesity. The experiment was conducted by Timothy Kieffer, a professor in the department of cellular and physiological sciences, and scientists from BetaLogics, on mice put on a high-fat and calorie diet, by stimulating them with Type 2 diabetes, for several weeks. Then pancreatic-like cells that had been grown from human cells were surgically implanted in the mice. Mice that had received a combination of the cells with one of three diabetes drugs became glucose tolerant, whereas mice stimulated with Type 2 diabetes, stimulated with drugs and not the transplants remained glucose-intolerant. An important observation was that, mice were able to reduce spikes in blood sugar levels, those spikes that are responsible to cause damage and increase risk for blindness, heart attack and kidney failure. Another unexpected result of the experiment was that the mice had turned to a normal weight, same as was of a healthy control group that had been kept on a low-fat diet. The results have been published in Stem Cell Reports. Continue reading >>

Stem cells are the body's raw materials cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Stem cells may be derived from several sources: Embryonic stem cells are extracted from embryos and are thought to hold the most potential, because these cells can give rise to virtually any specialised cell in the human body. Adult stem cells are present in adult tissues such as the bone marrow, brain and blood but are limited in potential relative to embryonic stem cells. Cord blood stem cells are derived from cord blood and are thought to hold enormous potential in treating diseases Stem cells are important for living organisms for many reasons. They offer new potential for treating diseases such as diabetes, and heart disease. In some adult tissues, such as bone marrow, muscle, and brain, discrete populations of adult stem cells generate replacements for cells that are lost through normal wear and tear, injury, or disease. What is a Stem Cell Bone Marrow Transplant? A stem cell transplant (bone marrow transplant) is a medical procedure in which diseased bone marrow is replaced by highly specialized stem cells that develop into healthy bone marrow. What are the 2 main types of Stem Cell Transplant? Autologous, in which the patient receives his or her own stem cells. Allogeneic, in which stem cells are donated by another person Stem Cell Transplant is recommended as a treatment for which illnesses? Stem cell transplantation is a procedure that is most often recommended as a treatment option for people with leukemia, multiple myeloma, and some types of lymphoma. It may also be used to treat some genetic diseases that involve the blood. What is stem cell therapy (regenerative medicine), and how does it work? Stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative me Continue reading >>

Diabetes (type 1)
What is Diabetes Type 1 ? Diabetes is the disease affecting the metabolism of glucose to a great extent. The glucose is required by the cells for energy production and normal functioning. This glucose comes in the blood from the food we eat and carried to the cellular level by an important hormone known as the insulin. Once the meal is consumed by the body, it breaks down into the glucose and other nutrients which are then absorbed in the bloodstream from the gastrointestinal tract. This glucose is then transferred from the blood stream to the cells. The diabetes develops when the body either can’t prepare insulin or can’t respond to the insulin. Diabetes can be mainly differentiated into two broad categories such as Diabetes Type 1 & Diabetes Type 2. Type 1 diabetes also known as insulin dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes, when the pancreatic ability to produce insulin is reduced. How prevalent is Diabetes Type 1? By the end of 2013, almost 9.3% of the kids are known to be suffering from Juvenile diabetes. In general, diabetes remains the seventh leading cause of death globally. The rates of diagnosed diabetes on the basis of race and ethnic background are 5% Non Hispanic or white adults 0% of Asian Adults 8% of Hispanics 2% of Non Hispanic blacks 9% of American Indians/Alaskan Natives Factors responsible for Juvenile Diabetes Various risk factors for the development of juvenile diabetes such as age, race, sex, geographical location and seasonality have been reviewed and confirmed. Age: – Age is the major risk factor accounting for more than or equal to 85% of all the diabetes cases less than 20 years of age. In general the incidence rate is progressively observed by birth and increase with increasing age. However the increasing incidence of the disease has Continue reading >>

Stem Cell Treatment For Diabetes
Diabetes is an Autoimmune medical condition subtly affecting our health. Since symptoms of frequent urination and greater thirst do not seem to be dangerous; diabetes is highly ignored in the initial stage. And the gravity of the situation is realized only in advanced stages. Diabetes is mainly classified into type I and type 2. Type 1 develops when the body's immune system sees its own cells as foreign and destroys them. As a result, insulin producing islets cells of the pancreas are lost and thus insulin production is stopped. In the absence of insulin, glucose intake by cells is impaired and it gets accumulated in the blood stream. In type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance is developed due to which cells are unable to utilize insulin for glucose metabolism. Diabetes when uncontrolled can lead to blindness, kidney failure, heart diseases and stroke. Therefore it is very necessary to keep excessive high level of glucose in the blood stream under check. Conventionally, there is no permanent diabetes cure except for medications and insulin injections. However,Stem cells technology has practically fulfilled the promise of dead cell replacements with the new one. With this unique transdifferentiation ability of stem cells, it is possible to develop insulin producing beta cells that are lost from the body. Symptoms Major Manifestations of Diabetes in patients include the following: Always tired, thirsty, hungry Vaginal infections Sexual problems Numb or tingling hands or feet Sudden weight loss Frequent urination Wounds that won't heal Blurry vision So,it is important to take charge of your condition in Diabetes. Diabetes can affect almost every organ of the body for example: Diabetic Retinopathy, Heart Disease, Diabetic kidney and Diabetic foot are all fall outs of Diabetes w Continue reading >>

Stem Cells - Diabetesmellitus
DIABETESMELLITUS Diabetes is often called the "silent killer" because it attacks the body slowly and stealthily. Newly diagnosed adult diabetes patients are usually not overly concerned about it since their symptoms are often no more serious than frequent urination and increased thirst. Many other patients have no symptoms at all. However, as time goes by, the consequences of both types of diabetes become increasingly serious and can lead to death. These include heart disease, eye problems, kidney failure, nerve damage and erectile dysfunction, to name a few. Major contributors to the degenerative effects of diabetes are hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and hypoglycemic events (acute low blood sugar). Thus, it is critical that men and women who are diagnosed with diabetes seek treatment to reduce hyperglycemia and hypoglycemic events that will, in time, trigger these dangerous, degenerative conditions. The long-term goals of treatment are to : Prevent diabetes-related complications such as blindness, heart disease, kidney failure, and amputation of limbs Our innovative, autologous (originating from your own body) stem cell therapy for diabetes I and II does just that - drug free. It fights diabetes at its roots, reducing hyperglycemia and its associated complications (see above). Recent evidence suggests that it also reduces hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) events that can result in death if not treated promptly . Continue reading >>

Unproven Stem Cell Therapy Banned
doi:10.1038/nindia.2014.39 Published online 25 March 2014 Companies call the move 'illogical' and say it could hurt medical tourism. Samir Padhiyar, a 20-year-old choreographer, was paralysed waist down due to spinal injury in a road accident in 2011. A hospital in Ahmedabad promised him absolute cure through stem cell therapy. "I was told I could walk as before with just three stem cell injections at 3-6 months interval. I signed the consent form and paid them Rupees 800,000 (about $13000)," he says. "But there was no follow-up during the whole treatment that lasted for a year and there has been absolutely no change in my health condition even after two years. When I complained and asked for refund, they offered another stem cell treatment at a lower cost which I refused." India's revised stem cell guidelines announced recently aim to protect hapless patients like Padhiyar from being exploited by doctors offering unproven stem cell treatments. "Such fraudulent practices need to be stopped urgently, while ensuring that scientifically designed and responsible research on stem cells is not hindered," according to the guidelines prepared jointly by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Under the new rule, stem cells cannot be offered to patients as 'therapy'. They can be used only in "clinical trials" after approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). The only exception is use of haematopoietic (blood forming) stem cells for treating blood disorders, which DBT secretary Krishnaswamy VijayRaghavan calls "a proven therapy." For other cell therapies to be considered proven, they "should not only be safe but also have unequivocal data on efficacy." Almost simultaneously, the DCGI, which regulates all use of ste Continue reading >>

Stem Cells: Read These New Rules Before Going In For A `stem Cell Cure' | Mumbai News - Times Of India
Read these new rules before going in for a `stem cell cure' Read these new rules before going in for a `stem cell cure' MUMBAI: Considering the mushrooming of stem cell clinics offering "cures" for conditions ranging from diabetes to autism across the country , the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) have come up with guidelines on who can conduct research in this sphere, when and how. Moreover, the draft, for the first time, provides guidelines for cutting-edge gene editing techniques. Giving a three-page list of conditions for which stem cells can be offered, the draft omits conditions such as motor neuron disease, mental retardation or muscular dystrophy . It makes it clear that doctors should stick to their specialty ."Doctors cannot criss-cross areas of specialization," said ICMR deputy director general Dr Geeta Jotwani. " At present, there are orthopaedic surgeons who offer so-called stem cell therapy for neurological problems or vice-versa. We are now clearly saying that only clinicians with subject domain can offer clinical trials." The 40-page draft is available on the ICMR and DBT's websites, and is open to public comments and concerns till July 31. "Stem cells have a lot of potential in disease management. Our last guidelines came out in 2013, but a lot has changed since then, making us feel the need to update our guidelines. We want to encourage people to do research in stem cells, but at the same time want to ensure nothing unethical is carried out," ICMR director general Dr Soumya Swaminathan told TOI. On the mention of gene editing techniques, she said, "We want our researchers to take up work in this field. US researchers have been working on gene editing for cancer, HIV , etc, but we in India haven't yet Continue reading >>

Diabetes has been one of those diseases that cause many other diseases within the same person. A diabetic person may have to face many other disorders just because of this disease. One of the basic reasons for this is that the person's immunity greatly diminishes. It makes the sick person weak and unable to heal small wounds, even bruises. In this disease, the person in particular can not extract sugar molecules from the blood and they are eliminated from the body with the urine that causes weakness in a person. In addition, the body does not produce chemical called insulin that controls the absorption of glucose from the blood. But now stem cell therapy for diabetes ensures a permanent cure for this disease. Stem cell treatment of diabetes is indicated in all stages of the disease. However, it is the most effective in cases of: New-onset insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus; Diabetes mellitus complicated by dia Continue reading >>

Any decision on medical treatments, after-care or recovery should be done solely upon proper consultation and advice of a qualified physician. This is a common chronic medical condition that results from the body having problems regulating sugar levels. Most forms of diabetes are managed by daily insulin injections. Insulin is produced by beta cells in the pancreas which are arranged into clusters called islets of Langerhans. The pancreas is located in the abdomen next to the stomach and the small intestines. Beta cells are located next to blood vessels flowing through the pancreas. Type 1 diabetes: This form of diabetes occurs when the beta cells are damaged and destroyed by the bodys immune system. This results in the blood sugar levels constantly staying high which can cause long-term damage to the body. Type 2 diabetes: This form of diabetes occurs when the beta cells do not produce enough insulin or if the insulin produced does not work properly. Presently diabetes has no cure. Type 2 diabetes can be controlled with regular exercise and a healthy diet but type 1 diabetes cannot. People with type 1 diabetes have to often test their blood sugar levels and administer insulin through a pump or injections when needed. High blood sugar levels can cause serious complications such as heart damage, damage to the kidneys, blood vessels, eyes, and nerves. Moreover, injecting too much insulin can lead to hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar levels) which can lead to death. Type 1 diabetes can be treated by a Continue reading >>
