Blood Glucose Meter Review: Relion Premier Blu And Voice

Blood Glucose Meter Review: Relion Premier Blu And Voice

A few years ago, my health insurance changed, and I learned that the new plan covered only a limited amount of test strips per day. Thankfully, I already knew about the Walmart brand ReliOn, which produces an array of affordable health care products, including blood glucose meters and testing strips. For the last several years, if I ever needed extra test strips, I would purchase the ReliOn Prime strips. While the meter is very basic, it serves its function well and I have always found it to be quite accurate and reliable, as well as very affordable. Recently, the company launched two new blood glucose metersthe ReliOn Premier Blu and the ReliOn Premier Voice. I received a free sample of each meter and the Premier test strips for review. The screen size and buttons on both meters are quite large, which is not a requirement for me but is a good thing for any individuals who prefer a larger display. I liked that the strips required a very small blood volume for testing. The ReliOn Premier BLU is definitely more advanced than the more basic Prime model. The Premier BLU comes with Bluetooth connectivity to a blood glucose data management app called ReliOn Life. I also noticed right away that unlike the ReliOn Prime, the Premier Blue had a light up display, so one could see their blood glucose value when testing in the dark. However, I still needed additional lighting to insert the test strip and apply the blood sample. The ReliOn Premier Voice audibly reports the blood glucose values to the user in English or in Spanish. This can definitely be a useful feature for anyone who is vision-impaired. The screen display for the ReliOn Premier Voice is similar to the more standard display for the ReliOn Prime. I was happy to see that the cost of both meters and supplies was quite Continue reading >>

Blood Sugar Meter Review 1

Blood Sugar Meter Review 1

My first official blood sugar meter review will be the Freestyle Lite. I am excited about performing this review due the excellent reputation of the blood sugar meter. blood sugar testing accuracy is of primary importance. features can be helpful including memory, back light, etc. I want to thank TotalDiabetesSupply.com for supplying me with the FreeStyle Lite meter and strips, to use in this review. I chose to review the FreeStyle Lite first because it comes highly regarded by Dr. Bernstein as is the much more expensive and accurate HemoCue. FreeStyle Lite Review First Impression: Right out of the box I had the unit working and testing my blood sugar in minutes. Freestyle Lite Features: Back ground light Display – For people who need to test their blood sugars at all hours of the day or night (and for those requiring reading glasses) … this is a very nice feature. Also for those like me … a person who shares pictures of their readings in blog posts and in social media, this really is a NICE feature. For me this is a minor benefit, but it does save time when trying to take a readable picture for sharing. Port Light – this is really COOL as well. When you insert a test strip a tiny light comes on that lights up the strip so you can see to ‘load’ the strip. This would be very valuable especially for those who need to take their blood sugar readings during the night. Provides a 7, 14 and 30 day average. This can be useful if you test your blood sugars regularly. (4) Reminder Alarms – Excellent feature for those who are insulin dependent or are in the early stages of controlling your blood sugars in normal ranges. FYI – if your meter does not have this feature, use your smart phone, find an app for alarms. Date and Time Stamp on Blood Sugar tests. This is soo Continue reading >>

Blood Sugar Meters By Smallest Sample Sizes

Blood Sugar Meters By Smallest Sample Sizes

Glucose Meters That Require the Smallest Samples What blood sugar meters use the smallest blood sample size?.Hero Images/Getty Images If you have been recently diagnosed with diabetes, you may be learning that blood sugar meters for testing your glucose are not all the same. On top of that, getting a blood sample to check blood sugar is much easier for some people than for others. Thankfully, there are options that can help with many of these common difficulties in testing. Checking Blood Sugar for People With Diabetes For a person with diabetes, a blood sugar meter, also known as a glucose meter or simply, glucometer, is an essential tool. When a device becomes a part of our everyday habits, qualities such as convenience, portability, and ease-of-use become important. Thanks to recent innovations, glucose meters have become smaller and smaller, fitting neatly into our lives and integrating with our technologies. What makes a good one for you will likely include these and other qualities. Familiarity can be an important factor when choosing a glucose meter. A manufacturer or brand you know and trust can be important for your selection. Recommendations from your health care team are also likely a factor in your choice, as is coverage offered by your health insurance. Coverage intersects with cost considerations, as well. Tracking your numbers is very important. You can now opt to do this yourself with pen and paper, or instead choose a glucose meter that will handle that storing and tracking task for you. When choosing a glucose meter ,it is important to determine which features are most important for your needs. Relion Prime E 01 Error

Relion Prime E 01 Error

I'm having issues with continually get an E 01 Error on the relion prime. I got it to work yesterday at first l, but now most of the time I'm getting this error even when testing myself. This is my first week testing Boogey. I feel horrible. I can't keep poking his ears & paws are out of the question. Any input is appreciated. Everything is brand new. My hands are clean & dry. The test strip had enough blood to fill the box. I'm dipping the tip of strip in the blood. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Ahhhhh. Being a new diabetic momma is frustrating! According to the manual, E01 means 'a used strip has been inserted or the meter is having difficulty reading the strip'. Do you have any control solution to test the strips? I've never gotten that error message, so I'm not sure what else to suggest. @Bobbie And Bubba uses the prime, maybe she knows of something. This is the first I've heard of control solution. Is that available at Walmart? Or is it something I can make at home? Yes I use that meter and Sharon is correct, that is exactly what it means: a use strip has been inserted into the meter, ( I just checked it on myself and reinserted the strip and that is the code I got. Since that is not the case with you, try this, take the battery out of the meter and start all over with a set up and see if that helps. The control solution can be gotten through the company if you call them and request it (I think every meter should come with some......my personal pet peeve) Try taking the battery out and starting all over again with the set up and see if that helps. It takes a few weeks to get the control solution( I agree with Bobbie, it should come with the meter or at least be available at the store where the meter was purchased!). Try her recommendation and if that do Continue reading >>

This guest post was originally published on Walmart s official blog Walmart Today . The author Marybeth Hays is the Executive Vice President, Consumables, Health and Wellness Walmart U.S. Because its a small world I would also note that Marybeth and I worked together at Lowes Home Improvement years ago. New Digital Health Tools Transforming Diabetes Self-Care TheCenter for Disease Control and Preventionreports there are more than 30 million in the U.S. living with diabetes. Thats 1 in 11 Americans. Perhaps even more alarming: Out of the 84 million who have pre-diabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, 90% dont know they have it. Its a growing epidemic with a devastating physical, emotional and financial toll on our communities. And its because of this, theres an ever-increasing focus on diabetes prevention, treatment and education. At one of our nationwide Wellness Day Clinics last month an individual discovered his blood glucose level was a life-threatening 530. An onsite nurse explained the consequences of the test result and he immediately went to a nearby urgent care clinic to initiate care. It is rewarding to think the work we do at Walmart can help people live healthier and even save lives in some cases. Perhaps most critical for diabetic patients, however, is access toaffordable supplies. Thats why Im excited about our exclusive line (private brand) of important, everyday essentials. From meters to test strips and insulin, patients are able to save considerably on the items they need most. Because they can afford to test more regularly, this means our patients can better manage their care, and ultimately, lead healthier lives. Recently, we expanded our line of ReliOn diabetic supplies to include the $18.98 ReliOn Premier BLU blood glucose monitori Continue reading >>

Walmart Relion Life On The Appstore

Walmart Relion Life On The Appstore

Yes it syncs your meter readings easily. But thats all thats useful. Theres no way to track diet except a generic did you eat right question. No way to compare daily readings or see trends. The provider section is useless, the providers list is so small I doubt 90% of us are using it. And the app keeps logging me out every couple of weeks. With the combination of having to enter PIN number and Touch ID this is way overboard security. There are to many other easier to use and more useful apps out there to bother with this one any longer. This app is okay it is functioning. Cannot view all entries until day is over even though it says its synced. Bluetooth does work again will not see entries on app until the end of the day passed 12 am. It would be nice if notes can be added for every individual testing and it would be nice to be able to remove bad readings. The app itself is very smooth either and the ui is not very user friendly. But it does work for those on the fence about the bluetooth function, you just have to wait til the next day to see the entire log. Continue reading >>

Diabetes Alert: Relion Insulin Syringes Recalled

Diabetes Alert: Relion Insulin Syringes Recalled

People with diabetes who use ReliOn insulin syringes should check their syringe package because of an important recall. Tyco Healthcare Group (Covidien) is recalling 4,710 boxes of the syringes -- with 100 syringes in each box -- that were sold at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club from Aug. 1, 2008 through Oct. 8, 2008. The reason for the recall: possible mislabeling and overdose risk. "The use of these syringes may lead to patients receiving an overdose of as much as 2.5 times the intended dose, which may lead to hypoglycemia , serious health consequences, and even death," states an FDA news release. The recall only applies to the following products: Product name: ReliOn Insulin Syringes -- 31 gauge 1 cc (with 100 syringes per box) Lot number: 813900 (on the back panel of the carton, or on the white paper backing of each syringe's "peel pack") Product identification number: 38396-0403-02 (on the top panel upper right-hand corner of the syringe box) The FDA says some syringes labeled for use with U-40 insulin got packaged with syringes for U-100 insulin. The FDA notes that Tyco Healthcare recalled this lot of syringes in October, and Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores have posted information about the recall and notified more than 16,500 customers about the recall. For more information, call 866-780-05436 or visit the ReliOn recall web site for more information. Customers will be provided with a replacement package. Accu Chek Or Relion | Diabetic Connect

Accu Chek Or Relion | Diabetic Connect

I bought the Relion prime because of the cost, but it fluctuates soooo much, I can't rely on it for accuracy. I double tested for a couple weeks and the Relion was anywhere between 10 and 48 points higher than my other meter. I think mine is a lemon, so I stopped using it. I like the truetrack, and the strips are about $17 for 100 on eBay. I seen some one-touch strip for over 100.00 thats 10X the Reli-on. Such a wide range of price. I have no understanding of the difference. I bought the Reli-on set up for now until i get a better idea of how this all works. I also got the A1c test to try out as well. The easy answer (if smug) is to buy the meter that you will use most. If cost is a factor, the Relion offers a good solution. Meter readings may vary, according to FDA guidelines, by up to 20% Even readings from the same blood drop on the same meter done one right after the other may differ. Using a meter will help you establish your BG control trends and offer insight into where you may need to make changes for better control. I have both a One Touch NextLink meter and a Bayer Contour Next meter. Both of these communicate my readings directly to my Medtronic insulin pump. I do find the Bayer meter readings to be usually higher than the One Touch and Bayer has a reputation for greater accuracy but many insurers don't cover the Bayer test strips. I test on average eight times a day and have good control of my diabetes. I use Reli-On because I pay out of pocket. It is the most affordable and I have not had any issues with accuracy. Others here have noted it tends to run a little high. Continue reading >>

Walmarts $25 Insulin Cant Fix The Diabetes Drug Price Crisis

Walmarts $25 Insulin Cant Fix The Diabetes Drug Price Crisis

Walmarts $25 insulin cant fix the diabetes drug price crisis The US chain offers a low-cost option, but its far from ideal for all patients. At Walmart pharmacies, people can purchase a vial of Novo Nordisks Novolin ReliOn Insulin for less than $25. Health care executives faced the ire of lawmakers on Capitol Hill Wednesday, amid a growing outcry from patients whove been forced to ration insulin because of soaring prices. I dont know how you people sleep at night, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) told a panel of insulin manufacturers and drug industry intermediaries assembled for a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on insulin prices. I just want you to know your days are numbered. While the executives fumbled to explain themselves over the course of two days of questioning , one solution to the insulin access crisis resurfaced on social media : Patients should just buy cheap insulin at Walmart. For context, the cost of the four most popular insulins has tripled over the past decade , forcing many of the millions of Americans with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who rely on the drug to skimp on or skip doses. Walmart indeed offers a relatively inexpensive choice, essentially over the counter. People can go to pharmacies in stores nationwide and, without a prescription, purchase a vial of Novo Nordisks Novolin ReliOn Insulin for less than $25. (People with diabetes can require between one and six vials of insulin per month.) But theres a problem here: This low-cost option is far from ideal for all patients. Ultimately, Walmart-ism, as diabetes advocates call it, reveals a lot about what the debate around the insulin drug pricing crisis has become: a big blame game, filled with distractions from whats really driving up drug prices. Doctors and diabetes advocates point out t Continue reading >>
