Medtronic Says Its Santa Rosa Buildings Still Standing

Medtronic says its Santa Rosa buildings still standing A spokesman for the device maker said it hasn't been able to access the facilities to assess damage. Amid stark scenes of residential neighborhoods in northern California reduced to cinders, medical device maker Medtronic said Tuesday that its two buildings in fire-ravaged Santa Rosa, Calif., are still standing but inaccessible for the time being. "We have some initial, positive observations of our Fountaingrove and Coffey Lane facilities, which were at most risk of being impacted by the fires. We are working to gain additional information regarding the specific impacts and damages sustained," Medtronic spokesman Fernando Vivanco wrote in an e-mail to the Star Tribune. "We will have additional information on site impacts once we can gain access to facilities." Asked what was meant by "positive observations," Vivanco wrote, " 'positive' in this case means the facility did not burn down." As the fires' deadly toll rose, photos of the hardest-hit areas north of the Bay Area depicted the devastation: smoldering networks of roads where homes once stood, anguished homeowners assessing the scene. A brick chimney loomed in place, marking the site of one house. Melted chrome oozed from burned cars in a driveway. California crews were battling 17 large wildfires around the state Tuesday. Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency in several counties including Sonoma and Napa. The Tubbs Fire began Sunday evening and quickly burned its way toward Santa Rosa, destroying a "significant number of commercial and residential structures," California fire officials said. Decreasing winds and cooler weather overnight Monday allowed firefighters to make good progress in battling the blazes. Vivanco said Tuesday that Medtronic was r Continue reading >>

IN.PACT Admiral drug-coated balloon: Durable, consistent and safe treatment for femoropopliteal peripheral artery disease. Medtronic Vascular, 3850 Brickway Blvd., Santa Rosa, CA 95403, USA. Electronic address: [email protected] Medtronic Vascular, 3850 Brickway Blvd., Santa Rosa, CA 95403, USA. Adv Drug Deliv Rev. 2017 Mar;112:69-77. doi: 10.1016/j.addr.2016.10.003. Epub 2016 Oct 19. Endovascular management of peripheral artery disease was until recently limited to percutaneous balloon angioplasty, atherectomy, stent grafts, and bare-metal stents. These therapies have been valuable, but plagued by high restenosis and revascularization rates. Important progress has been made with the introduction of combination devices, including drug-eluting stents and drug-coated balloons (DCB), designed to combat restenosis by locally delivering anti-proliferative drugs. In particular, promising clinical performance has been seen with the Medtronic IN.PACT Admiral DCB, with durable, consistent and safe results. Rigorous, randomized controlled trials have directly compared this and other drug-delivering devices to their non-drug-coated counterparts with data available through two years. Additionally, trials are ongoing to assess use of drug-coated technologies in combination with traditional therapies in hope of synergistic effects. This review gathers data from currently published clinical trials with the IN.PACT Admiral DCB for the treatment of femoropopliteal peripheral artery disease and explores the possible impact on continuing clinical practice. Home Medtronics Santa Rosa facilities survive California wildfires Medtronics Santa Rosa facilities survive California wildfires While much of Santa Rosa, Calif. has been ravaged by wildfires sweeping across the region, Medtronic s (NYSE: MDT ) 2 facilities in the area are still standing, but inaccessible, according to a StarTribune report. While the facilities remain, the Fridley, Minn.-based company is still trying to reach out to employees in the area and assess the impact it has on them, as well. We have some initial, positive observations of our Fountaingrove and Coffey Lane facilities, which were at most risk of being impacted by the fires. We are working to gain additional information regarding the specific impacts and damages sustained. We will have additional information on site impacts once we can gain access to facilities, Medtronic spokesperson Fernando Vivanco told the StarTribune. The companys Fountaingrove and Coffey Lane facilities in Santa Rosa are primarily administrative offices, according to the report, but also include research & development operations for vascular and heart devices. Other facilities in the area are used for warehousing materials and products. These facilities have already given these house designs for the home builder so that they can move out of the way. The affected Fountaingrove and Coffey Lane buildings appeared to be within the mandatory evacuation zone in Santa Rosa, according to the StarTribune. The companys nearby Brickway and Skylane facilities, while not affected, were also difficult to access due to the fires. The wildfires and recent hurricanes hitting Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico have had a significant impact on Medtronic, with the company estimating $250 million in damages from the natural dis Continue reading >>

Reeling From Hurricane And Wildfires, Medtronic Plans To Reopen Northern California Facilities Next Week

Reeling from hurricane and wildfires, Medtronic plans to reopen northern California facilities next week October 19, 2017 | Daniel Allar | Healthcare Economics & Policy Medical device company Medtronic was already projecting a $250 million financial hit due to Hurricane Maria before wildfires in northern California forced it to shut down four facilities in Santa Rosa on Oct. 9. A Medtronic spokesperson said the approximately 840 employees who live in the area have all reported being safe, and the company plans to reopen three of the four plants next week. The company wasnt prepared to estimate the financial impact of the wildfires. "We are closely monitoring the wildfires in Santa Rosa, and our first priority is the safety of our employees," Wendy Dougherty said in an email to Cardiovascular Business. We are keeping in contact with local employees to understand their personal needs and providing support. All four facilities in Santa Rosa are intact. We anticipate our Brickway, Coffey Lane and Skylane facilities will be open sometime next week; our Fountaingrove facility is still in an evacuation zone so we dont know when that will open. As of Oct. 18, the death toll from the northern California wildfires was 42, with another 53 reported missing in Sonoma County alone. Its the second time in less than a month that Medtronic has been hit by a natural disaster. Hurricane Maria damaged all the companys manufacturing facilities across four major locations in Puerto Rico, where more than 5,000 employees work. As of its press release Oct. 6, Medtronic had tracked down 90 percent of those employees and most had returned to work. But even then, the facilities werent operating at full capacity. "We are extremely focused on restoring our manufacturing operations in Puerto Rico as Continue reading >>
