Accounts recently lodged for Medtronic Ireland Limited show the Irish unit recorded a pretax profit of 1.58 million for the 12 months ending April 2016, as against 646,531 a year earlier. Turnover, which comprised revenue from the sale of medical devices in Ireland, rose from 6.8 million to 40.4 million. The rise in sales was attributed to the change in operating structure. Gross profit totalled 9.1 million versus 6.8 million in the previous year. The latest accounts show Medtronic Ireland Limited had net assets of 2.8 million at the end of the financial year, compared to 1.4 million a year earlier. It also had cash on hand of 5 million versus 2.8 million in the previous reporting period. While a 700,000 dividend was paid for the 12 months ending April 2015, there was no dividend last year. The company, which employs 35 people in sales locally, saw staff costs rise to 2.5 million from 2.3 million a year earlier. Assembler II(Current Employee) Plymouth, MN 19 April 2018 One of the things that made it hard for me to keep working there, was the lazy/problematic coworkers and bad management. They are inexperienced in a lot of things (computers, tweezers, etc.) Which isn't terrible, because there are trainers there to help, but the problem is they don't show interest in learning more when you try to teach them. They just want to sit around and get paid. And then when you point out that they should be helping, they make a bigger problem out of it so that it looks like we were targeting them because of their race/culture/ethnicity. These coworkers can somehow get away with sneaky extended lunch breaks, 30 min-1 hr long bathroom breaks, chatting in other lines for 10+ mins, and sitting around/napping when clearly, work needs to be done. Whenever there is any problem that should be reported to management, we are told to voice our concerns in good faith. And we do. We have told our leads, our supervisors and if needed, our managers. But nothing has changed. They may have talked to whomever, but not stern enough. People aren't afraid because they know management can't do anything but talk to them with 500 warnings. So they know, "I can still get away with this and not get fired". Leniency is good, but management here is WAY too lenient. Other than that, if you're lucky, you get to work with actual hard working and respectful coworkers. But chances are slim. There's also great benefits for full-time employees and that's about it. Short breaks, lazy/problematic coworkers, bad management, lack of sincere recognition, no fun events besides a late summer picnic and a few potlucks with plain food Politics is the culture. Management will take a ton of vacation while analysts are overworked with Continue reading >>

New 13m Galway Facility Announced By Medtronic

New 13m Galway Facility Announced By Medtronic

New 13m Galway facility announced by Medtronic Business , Employment , Finance , Life sciences and energy | Mon 14 Dec | Author Business & Finance Medical technology, services and solutions company Medtronic today announced a new manufacturing facility in Galway to manufacture drug-coated balloons (DCB) technology. These DCBsare used for the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD), a build-up of plaque in arteries throughout the body leading to reduced blood flow to the limbs, organs, and the brain. Patients with PAD are at higher risk for stroke and heart attack. Tony Semedo, senior vice president and president of the Aortic and Peripheral Vascular business at Medtronic, added: Since launching the IN.PACT Admiral DCB in the US market, it has quickly become the fastest adopted DCB technology. In fact, our global market leadership in DCB is driving the need to open the new facility here in Galway to provide more patients access to this highly efficacious and safe treatment option for peripheral arterial disease. Our Galway operations and staff have very specific expertise in this area, which is the platform for this announcement. Once fully operational, this facility will be the only DCB manufacturing area of its kind in Medtronic worldwide. Our organisation is on an expansionary path, with a notable amount of this growth to be fuelled by products coming out of Ireland. Martin Shanahan, CEO, IDA Ireland, said: This announcement once again showcases Irelands position as a global hub for medical technologies, with this country employing the highest number of medical technologies personnel per capita in Europe. We have worked over a period of time with Medtronic to bring this capability and project to fruition in Ireland. The decision by Ireland and the IDA several de Continue reading >>

The new Medtronic facility in Galway will manufacture a revolutionary new medical device for treating patients at risk of stroke and heart attack Medtronic facility in Galway will employ 100 professionals Medtech giant Medtronic will establish a new manufacturing facility in Galway to manufacture its next-generation medical device to treat artery disease, the company has announced. More than 100 skilled professionals will be based at the new facility. The company said that the decision to base the new facility in Galway was based on existing expertise at the site in drug-device combination products. Highly-skilled professionals from other parts of the Medtronic organisation, approximately 100, who specialise in the areas of quality and manufacturing engineering, supply chain and production management, will be stationed in the new facility. The Galway facility will have 20,000 square feet of space with 8,000 square feet dedicated to manufacturing and will cost approximately 13m. Manufacturing is a key sector that we have targeted as part of the Action Plan for Jobs, and over the past four years we have seen the sector perform well after years of neglect, said Jobs Minister Richard Bruton TD. The investment in Galway today by Medtronic is a great example of the type of manufacturing projects we are trying to develop in Ireland highly-skilled jobs, manufacturing innovative products, for sale in global markets. Medtronic is fun place to work, lots of progress career wise, diversity and good saalry and benefits Associate assembler(Current Employee) Galway, Ireland 16 June 2017 Typical day at work starts at pm , a four day shift, work with great people from engineers to technicians and team members, learn to work with micro Vascular products to alleviate pain and extend lives. medtronic is rated one of the best place to work, great treatment of staff with lots of benefits and holidays, great for family , the job is well apportioned within the team so work is enjoyable at all times. the fact you know you are making products that extend and take away pain from people every one minute makes it very satisfactory Engineer(Former Employee) Galway 28 April 2017 Having worked there for more years than I care to remember, I can honestly and accurately describe the culture there, management, prospects and simply what its like to be there. In short, we were resonably well paid, with slowly decreasing benefits. Some highly educated, talented and dedicated staff work there, but doing something that doesn't come close to utilising their skills. Chances for promotion depend on which section you work in, who your manager is and if you are willing to "play ball". On that note, if you need a job and you play rugby, football or hurling, your in, even if they aren't hiring. Really. Whats more, if you are willing to lick up to management, you'll be promoted fastest too. The employees are simply numbers there, same as most large companies. At Medtronic however, your personal health and/or wellbeing, is of little or no concern to the company, regardless of what they say. Senior management were not impressed when the company disappeared off the "best places to work" list a few years back. So, what did Continue reading >>

Productive, professional and fun workplace RTG Administrator in Business Support(Current Employee) Watford 27 March 2018 A typical day at Medtronic usually will involve me liasing with our customers and staff in the field either via telephone orr email in order to create legal Agreements so we can sponsor medical educational events. The atmosphere is a very professional one, with a lot of people around who are willing to assist you should you need it. An emphasis is placed on accountability and taking responsibility for your cases. That being said, it is also a fun environment too. Management are usually very available, and approachable with any queries. The hardest part of the job can be from the pressure of getting Agreements created and executed within a very small time frame as some events are organised last minute. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing cases you have handled run smoothly and when interacting with field staff, customers and colleagues who appreciate your help. Plenty of benefits to work for. Lots of opportunities for development. Senior Distribution Operator - Technician(Former Employee) Watford 8 February 2016 My typical day at Medtronic involved working with medical devices for spinal surgeries (cleaning, functionality checking, replenishing), communicating with various departments within the company (management, customer services, sales representatives), preparing orders for hospitals, receiving and shipping deliveries. Medtronic offers a lot to learn within medical devices and health industry spectrum as well as general processing standards and health and safety at work place. I would say that my immediate managers were very approachable, supportive and motivating and as I worked within small team of four, relationship with my colleagues Continue reading >>

I worked at Medtronic as a contractor(More than a year) Flexible hours, great money, shift allowance (20%), Health insurance, hard work is recognized , great team and supervisors. Very stressful job, you' re responsbile for a whole line and everything is dumped on you when things go wrong, you're responsible to contain the problem and isolate it. Poor training, you learn everything with the job Job will get very Montanans after a short period of time Production supervisor and line leads shouldn't have that much power and be able to create paranoia over temporary staff on the line which in turn forces them to hider their mistakes and ideas to solutions for the fear of being let go. I worked at Medtronic full-time(More than 5 years) Salary pay is very decent. Nice people and co-workers, respectful atmosphere. Good benefit package. Long term estability. Production line workers can easily fall into the "golden cage" effect and get stuck for years due to the confortable high salary and the scarce oportunities for growth. Some areas can be quite strict and deficient managerial behaviours ignored by higher levels of management to favour production to the detriment of the well-being of workers. A considerable number of production line workers are outsourced for a considerable period of time and fired at any time without notice, when this happens it creates a shock among co-workers who have build relationships with them and is humilliating to outsourced workers in the way they are fired, they don't even get the chance to say good bye to their co-workers. The Press Democrat/John Burgess Medtronic Inc. laid off 240 manufacturing workers at its Santa Rosa vascular division Friday, cutting 20 percent of its Sonoma County work force as the medical device maker shifts production to a lower-cost facility in Ireland. It was the second major layoff at a Sonoma County technology company this week. On Wednesday, Agilent Technologies cut 300 jobs at its Santa Rosa facility. ?What?s next for me right now, I don?t know,? said one Medtronic employee who lost his job Friday. ?With Agilent laying off 300 workers, it will be a little harder to get a good job in Santa Rosa.? Friday?s layoffs may not be the last for Medtronic?s Santa Rosa operation. In February, CEO Bill Hawkins said the company must cut its work force starting next month because of reduced spending by its customers, mostly hospitals and large clinics. The company didn?t say how many jobs would be eliminated in the upcoming restructuring. It?s unclear how many jobs could be Continue reading >>
