Medtronic's New Carelink Express System For Quick Review Of Cardiac Implants | Medgadget

Medtronics New CareLink Express System for Quick Review of Cardiac Implants Medtronic just launched CareLink Express, a new service that provides a rapid way for clinicians to get a sense of the status of Medtronic cardiac implants in their patients. Normally a device rep is necessary to read and understand what a defibrillator or pacemaker has been up to, a process that can consume a great deal of precious time and human resources. Now with the CareLink Express, clinicians can easily connect to an implant using a wireless monitor and pass on the data to a device representative who will provide expert analysis of the readings in minutes. According to a pilot study across dozens of clinical facilities, the average wait time for an implanted patient went from 84 minutes to less than 15 once CareLink Express became the standard. Some details of how CareLink Express works from Medtronic: Medtronic provides healthcare facilities with a CareLink Express monitor, which is compatible with almost all Medtronic ICDs, CRT devices, ICMs and pacemakers. The one-touch monitor is used to check or interrogate the implanted Medtronic cardiac device. When a patient with an implanted Medtronic cardiac device arrives at the healthcare facility, the facility staff uses the CareLink Express monitor to check the implanted device and the device data is transmitted to the CareLink Network. When the data is transmitted to the CareLink Network, a device expert receives an automatic notification via page or email indicating that new information is available. The device expert reviews the information remotely and provides an assessment of the device status to the hospital. Based on the device assessment, the healthcare facility staff determines the appropriate treatment for the patient. The device Continue reading >>

Minimed Connect And Nightscout

Minimed Connect And Nightscout

Set up MiniMed Connect with Nightscout on Azure This setup guide will enable you to bridge data from the MiniMed Connect into a Nightscout site running on Azure. If you use a Medtronic Enlite CGM, you will be able to view the numbers and trends from the CGM in Nightscout. If you use a Medtronic insulin pump compatible with the Connect, you will be able to pump status data such as active insulin in Nightscout. NOTE: You will not be able to see the amounts of specific boluses or glucose values from linked meters. This bridge can only see the data which is visible in CareLink Connect. You should already have: a MiniMed Connect and compatible pump an iPhone running the MiniMed Connect app a username and password for CareLink You should already be able to: see real-time values from the Connect (sensor glucose, active insulin, etc.) in the iPhone app log into CareLink on your web browser using your username and password, go to the CareLink Connect section, and see the same values If you haven’t achieved the above, read the online help or contact Medtronic support. Note: If you already have a Nightscout site, you may skip this step. Instead, use the Nightscout Update Fork Tool to ensure that your site is running the latest version of Nightscout. Follow all the steps in the Nightscout with iOS and Dexcom Share Bridge setup guide except step 4. Set aside a decent amount of time to get through it. We can use this guide because the MiniMed Connect plugin works very similarly to the Dexcom Share Bridge plugin, except instead of reading data sent to Dexcom’s servers by the Dexcom Share app, it reads data sent to Medtronic’s servers by the MiniMed Connect app. If you need more help or need to troubleshoot a step of this process, the main Nightscout setup guide walks through eac Continue reading >>

BS as normal for medtronics consumer facing IT The app does state it's only for clinicians (if you click on to read the details) but right there is Medtronic's ineptitude laid bare. They truly are idiots who it comes to consumer IT. They belatedly follow the competition to allow Cloud sharing of SG readings... But don't let the custom app for that work for care-givers ... And the care link app (this) only works for the doctors ... So parents still have to navigate their outdated website and still can't properly track their kids safety with their phone! Medtronic should have fired their tech and IT directors years ago. This only confirms their lack of professional understanding of the field they serve. Makes the vast sums of money they get from pump users seem even more unjustified. Smart CGM predicts future high and low sensor glucose events up to 60 minutes in advance and provides access to additional algorithms and insights that can inform users of clinically relevant glucose patterns. Do not use the Guardian Connect System for pediatric patients until you have thoroughly reviewed (with your Healthcare Professional), the system alert performance in the Guardian Connect Application User Guide and the sensor accuracy performance in the Guardian Sensor (3) Performance document.Discuss with your Healthcare Professional how to best set up your Guardian Connect System alerts to reduce the risk of missing low blood glucose or high blood glucose events. In the pediatric clinical study (3-18 years of age), larger differences were observed between the Guardian Connect System and actual blood glucose values compared to those differences observed in the adolescent/adult clinical study (14-75 years of age), particularly at low glucose levels. In the pediatric clinical study, a significant percentage of low glucose events were not detected by the Guardian Connect System. Do not rely solely on the Guardian Connect System alerts to detect low glucose. In the pediatric clinical study, the Guardian Connect System triggered a high percentage of false low glucose and false high glucose alerts. The Guardian Connect System is not intended to make therapy adjustments: always check your capillary blood glucose before making therapy adjustments. In the pediatric clinical study, enabling the Alert Before Low and Alert Before High predicted alerts significantly reduced the percentage of missed low blood glucose and missed high blood glucose events, but also significantly increased the percentage of false low glucose and false high glucose alerts. Do not ignore alerts fro Continue reading >>

Review: Medtronic’s Minimed 630g Insulin Pump

Review: Medtronic’s Minimed 630g Insulin Pump

I have used the Minimed 630G Insulin Pump System by Medtronic for the past 30 days. This review is my opinion of the pump, both positive and negative. I have used insulin pumps since I got my first Disetronic H-Tron V-100 in 1994. I got a Minimed 506 pump in 1998 and have been a fan of the Minimed/Medtronic pumps since. Until now. Minimed 630G Insulin Pump System The Minimed 630G Insulin Pump System comes with the pump, the CGM transmitter, and a Contour Next Link 2.4 blood glucose meter. The three devices work well together, once set up right. Medtronic also has an early access program. This lets you buy the Minimed 630G now, and upgrade to the upcoming Minimed 670G in spring of 2017. Receiving the Pump The 630G Pump comes in several boxes. The pump comes in an 8″x10″x2.25″ box that has the pump and several small items like clips, batteries, a manual, and a quick start guide. Another box of the same size has the Contour Next Link 2.4 meter. A second box arrived a few days later with the infusion sets and reservoirs, followed by another box a few days later with the CGM sensors. I got another box a week later with the CGM transmitter. In the past, the local Medtronic trainer would call me to train me on using the pump, with a request not to use it before the training. I normally ignore this request, since I have used Minimed pumps for so long. I do go to these trainings every once in a while, but I was never contact this time. Unusual, considering how new this version of the pump is. Even so, the pump was fairly easy to set up. I also got a pile of 8.5″x11″ manuals. One was a “previous pump users manual” and one was a “pump users manual’. There was a large manual in the box that had everything in it. And another “how to use the CGM” manual. Quite d Continue reading >>

Medtronic Warns Of 640g Pump Software Problem

Medtronic Warns Of 640g Pump Software Problem

The pump, which is sold internationally, could fail to charge because of it. sponsor A software problem has been detected in some Medtronic 640G pumps sold in international markets. However, that problem should not affect Medtronic pump users in the U.S. or Canada, as the 640G has not been released in these two countries. In mid-February, some members of the diabetes community began sharing notices from Medtronic of a software problem that may prevent the internal battery of the 640G pump from charging. The notice states that if this problem occurs, a screen will appear with the following message: “Power error detected – 00:00 – 25. Delivery stopped. Record your settings by uploading to CareLink or write your settings on paper. See User Guide.” If users see this alarm, they should contact Medtronic’s Helpline immediately, and someone will assist them in troubleshooting or in ordering a replacement pump. Read “Flaw Detected in Medtronic MiniMed 640G.” sponsor Insulin Nation has been able to find this notice posted in Australia, New Zealand, and Denmark. Customers in other countries may be affected, as well. Medtronic spokeswoman Janet Kim says Medtronic pump users in the U.S. and Canada should not be impacted by this software error, and that those who were affected should already have received notice of the problem. There have been no reports of adverse effects connected to this software problem, Kim said. However, the notice said the error could interrupt insulin delivery, so it should be taken seriously. Read about the FDA approval for the Medtronic 670G. Medtronic elected not to release the 640G in the U.S. and Canada, instead releasing a similar-looking pump that lacked the 640G’s predictive technology (the 630G) and a partially automated insulin pump Continue reading >>
