Almost all parts of the moringa plant are edible, from the immature seed pods called drumsticks, to the leaves, mature seeds, and roots. The leaves are said to be the most nutritious part of the plant. According to the Food Composition Tables (FCT) developed by the Food and Nutrition and Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST), malunggay leaves are significant sources of B vitamins, vitamin C, beta-carotene, zinc, potassium, and iron, among other significant nutrients. Malunggay is a very common ingredient in Asian cuisines in countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Pakistan. Malunggay Or Moringa: The Wonder Veggie Vs. Diabetes!
Malunggay or moringa: the wonder veggie vs. diabetes! We have a malunggay tree in our backyard and the household help must think I sound like a broken record because I always tell her to pluck some of the moringa leaves for mixing into some of our everyday dishes: chicken tinola, for instance, or even for making into pesto. Am a believer that anything natural and green is good for you. Boosting my belief is the preponderance of research studies these days on the many benefits of a plant-based diet. Anyhow, theres an interesting study on the positive effects of malunggay or moringa intake in lessening the debilitating effects of diabetes, and its worth taking a look. In late 2014, physicians at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC)s Department of Internal Medicine and Intensive Care Unit embarked on a landmark study presenting the potential use of malunggay as a natural alternative to standard preparations used for lowering and To ensure that the malunggay in the study was administered in standardized doses, the research team opted to use Atienza Naturale Malunggay Capsules, a leading brand, as it featured the purest form of the herb in a medium that could be taken conveniently. According to Doctors Rainier Nery Mozo and Imelda Caole-Ang, an extract derived from malunggay was instrumental in reducing Hemoglobin A1c, a key indicator in the level of blood glucose, in a control group of 60 patients at the OMMC. The study showed a mean reduction of 0.6% in the blood glucose of involved patients after regular dosage of malunggay capsules. Malunggay also played a role in the reduction of what is known as C-reactive protein (hsCRP), the presence of which in the body is an indication of inflammatory conditions of the internal organs Continue reading >>
Moringa Oleifera: A Treatment For Diabetes
Diabetes is a disease that is characterized by problems involving the hormone insulin. In healthy people, the pancreas releases insulin; insulin then works to help the body use and store the fat and sugar that is derived from the food that people eat. With diabetes, insulin can be compromised in a couple of different ways. In some cases, the pancreas doesn't produce any insulin at all. Other times, the body does not react in the right way to insulin - this is known as "insulin resistance." Finally, diabetes is sometimes characterized by a pancreas that produces an insufficient volume of insulin. The Two Types of Diabetes It's important to understand that diabetes is a disease that has no cure. Once a person develops diabetes, they will suffer from the condition for the rest of their life. Although diabetes may be triggered by a variety of different phenomena involving the pancreas and insulin production - or lack thereof - it can also be divided into two distinct types. Type 1 Diabetes - Type 1 diabetes typically first arises in people under the age of 20, although it can happen at any age. Insulin-producing cells - known as beta cells - in the pancreas are completely destroyed by the body's immune system. In turn, the pancreas can no longer produce any insulin and insulin injections must be administered. Type 2 Diabetes - With type 2 diabetes, a person's pancreas still produces insulin; the problem is that it either doesn't create enough insulin, or the person's body is resistant to the insulin that is produced. Type 2 diabetes commonly occurs in obese and overweight individuals - usually over the age of 40 - and is sometimes called "adult onset diabetes." Managing Diabetes There is no cure for diabetes. However, there are several ways to manage the condition in order Continue reading >>

Malunggay Capsules Address Diabetes; Now How To Tell If Theyre The Right Ones
Malunggay capsules address diabetes; now how to tell if theyre the right ones Study confirms that this local wonder plant can lower blood sugar levels and risks of stroke and heart attack Philippine Daily Inquirer / 04:30 AM July 14, 2015 When buying malunggay (Moringa oleifera) capsules, make sure the leaves inside are still green. PHOTO: ANNE A. JAMBORA A recent study hasconfirmed that diabetic patients may benefit from regular intake of capsules containing Moringa oleifera (malunggay) leaves. The study says that malunggay not only reduces blood sugar levels, but also lowers the risks of stroke and heart attack. High blood sugar reading is just the tip of the metabolic syndrome iceberg associated with diabetes. Less attention has been given to the diabetics chronic inflammatory state. Thats why even with controlled sugar, many diabetic patients suffer the high risks of stroke and heart attack. Almost every modern disease is caused or affected by inflammation. It is the normal response of the immune system to infection and trauma. In diabetic patients, this defense system becomes impaired and, if left untreated, can compromise the integrity of the blood vessels, dramatically increasing the risks of stroke and heart attack. In the first cohort study of M. oleifera on humans performed by Dr. Rainier Nery Mozo, with Dr. Imelda Caole-Ang as adviser, the leaves of this wispy tree were studied specifically for their properties affecting the hs-CRP (high specific C-reactive protein), a strong predictor of cardiovascular risks and death produced by the liver when there is inflammation, and hemoglobin A1c, the standard test that determines the past three months blood sugar control in people with diabetes. The 12-week study, conducted November last year and peer-reviewed by the Continue reading >>
Can Moringa Leaf Cure Your Diabetes?
In Asia and Africa, the Moringa leaf is hailed as a cure-all. Although it is most commonly used to treat malnutrition in developing countries, some doctors allege that the Moringa leaf can help over 300 diseases, including diabetes. Despite these claims, people in the Western Hemisphere know little about this natural supplement’s possible benefits. The Moringa leaf is a nutrient powerhouse because it possesses large quantities of vitamins A, C, calcium, iron, and protein. Due to its abundance of vitamin A, Moringa may prevent diabetic retinopathy. Research has shown that vitamin A supports eye health by preventing inflammation and strengthening the corneas. This is significant because 28.5% of people over 40 with diabetes have developed diabetic retinopathy between 2005 and 2008. Moringa is also rich in vitamin C. Combined with insulin, vitamin C can halt blood vessel damage in people with Type 1 diabetes, decreasing their risk for chest pain, heart attack, and stroke. Some users credit the Moringa herb for reducing tumour size and blood pressure. The supplement can also boost your immune system. For people with diabetes, these benefits could be significant due to their increased risk for heart disease and cancer. For people with insulin resistance, dangerously high levels of blood glucose could cause excessive amounts of inflammation, resulting in limited blood flow. This lack of blood flow can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Weight management is another potential pro in taking Moringa leaf because of the amount of protein it possesses — foods high in protein can reduce cravings in between meals. Moringa leaves can be eaten raw, cooked, or made into powder. While raw Moringa leaves taste like radishes, cooked Moringa is similar to spinach. Using Moringa powder in Continue reading >>
