You can not live on grapefruit alone. If I was eating grapefruit and not eating a whole bunch more of food Id lose weight and Id reduce my glucose readings. I hear lots of us saying Ive cut my bs reading because Ive cut my carbs. In reality I would have expected this. If you do not put the carbs in then were would the glucose come from if you do not increase your proteins. Fats do not produce glucose. Its bound to be lower. The real test is if we raise our carbs long term does the glucose reading also rise? Ive seen plenty of people reduce their blood sugars to become non diabetes but how many of those are back to the eat well plate 180g carbs per day or have they just remained low carb eaters? Its interesting findings are worth publishing ( IMHO) There was also a significant reduction in 2-hour post-glucose insulin level in the grapefruit group compared with placebo. Half of a fresh grapefruit eaten before meals was associated with significant weight loss. In metabolic syndrome patients the effect was also seen with grapefruit products. If you take prescription medication, ask with your doctor or pharmacist whether your medication interacts with grapefruit or other citrus products. You may need to eliminate grapefruit products from your diet. Simply taking your medication and grapefruit product at different times doesn't stop the interaction. The easiest way to do this is by concentrating on natural, unprocessed foods that are mostly plants and by excluding all diary products (milk, cheese, butter etc) and eggs from the diet. Tis the season for grapefruit and the season for weight loss, and happily there is an intersection here because research suggests grapefruit for weight loss is just the thing. I love it when research comes up with so many health benefits for one of my favorite foods! The humble grapefruit, aptly named Citrus paradisi helps people to control their blood sugars and to lose weight more quickly. Sounds like paradisi, right? Grapefruit for weight loss and blood sugar and for deliciousness. By Evan-Amos Own work, Public Domain, A terrific study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food in 2006 examined the effects of grapefruit on insulin resistance, or pre-diabetes, and weight. The study compared people that ate half a grapefruit before each meal, people who drank grapefruit juice before each meal, people who took grapefruit capsules before each meal and people who took a placebo before each meal. All of these people kept everything else about their diets the same so the grapefruit (or lack of it) was the only change. Of these four groups the people who ate half a grapefruit lost the most weight in 12 weeks, averaging a loss of 1.6 kilos or just over 3.5 pounds closely followed by the people who drank grapefruit juice, who lost 1.5 kilos or just under 3.5 pounds. The people who received a placebo (no grapefruit) lost very little weight; o.3 kilos or just over half a pound.
