Pharmacists who havent already should expect to receive questions about iBGStarthe new iPhone meter. Created by Sanofi and cleared by FDA in December 2011, iBGStar is the first blood glucose meter that connects directly to an iPhone or iPod Touch.1,2 The device automatically syncs with the iOS Diabetes Manager app, thereby giving users ready access to data on their mobile device. Although the iBGStar can stay attached to an iPhone/iPod Touch, the meter can also be used independently.1 The meter contains a rechargeable battery, requires a 0.5-mL blood sample, does not require coding, and provides blood glucose readings in approximately 6 seconds. To use the iBGStar monitoring system, a patients mobile device must have at least 30 MB of available space and have installed iOS version 4.0 or higher and the iBGStar Diabetes Manager app version 2.0 or higher.1 Although the Diabetes Manager app is not included with the iBGStar, patients are prompted to download it at no charge the first time they connect the meter to their iPhone/iPod Touch.1 The app can also be downloaded through the iTunes store.3 When readings are taken while the iBGStar is connected to an iPhone/iPod Touch, data are automatically synced with the Diabetes Manager app. If readings are taken while the meter is disconnected, the results will automatically upload to the device the next time iBGStar is connected. The app tracks glucose readings and user input carbohydrate and insulin information. Patients are able to tag readings in relation to meals, manually add readings if Continue reading >>

Background: Optimal metabolic control and compliance to self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) are poor in adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), and may require innovative management strategies. These may include the use of telemedicine and smartphone-linked blood glucose self-monitoring systems. To this purpose, a specific glucose meter (iBGStar) and a dedicated Diabetes Manager Application (DMApp) have been developed. Aim of the study is to demonstrate the superiority of a smartphone-linked versus a traditional self-monitoring system in reducing HbA1c levels and improving compliance to SMBG. Methods/Design: The i-NewTrend study is an open-label, randomized (1:1) trial involving 21 diabetes outpatient clinics in Italy. Overall, 178 subjects aged 1424 years with type 1 diabetes, with any diabetes duration, HbA1c 8%, treated with basal-bolus insulin regimen, and with poor compliance with SMBG will be randomized to two different SMBG strategies: Group A will use iBGStar+ DMApp and Group B (control group) will use a traditional meter for SMBG during a 6-month follow-up (experimental phase). Between-group differences on metabolic control, compliance to SMB Continue reading >>

Diabetic Nerd Does Not Review The Ibgstar - Iphone Based Glucose Meter

I won't be reviewing the iBGStar Glucose Meter. I was excited, like all the diabetes community, about this new meter but after reading the iBGStar owners manual and thinking about what is and is not worth my time, I have concluded that at this time, this new meter is not worth my attention, nor do I think yours. I received an e-mail today from US. Sanofi-Aventis announcing the availability of the iBGStar Glucose Monitoring System. The iBGStar is the first glucose meter that attaches directly to the Apple iPhone. The meter is currently available from Walgreens , Diabetic Care Services and Apple . Prices range (without insurance) from $71.99 (Diabetic Care Services) to $99 (Apple). The reality is the interface appears to only save you the step of entering your glucose levels manually. The meter is a basic glucose meter and most of the cool features are from the iPhone App, which is free. The app is nice and I am reviewing that this week. ( Review is done ) However, It appears by looking at the picture that the meter does not fit onto the iPhone if you use a protective hard case that fully encloses the iPhone. I use an Otterbox and have no intention of removing my case just so the meter can fit. There is also the question of accessing the data port if you install the meter as displayed above. From the case in the picture above, I get the impression they intend you to leave the meter in place and charge the phone through the meter. OK, but what about plugging my phone into a docking station for music? It has been highly promoted that the iBGStar is the first glucose meter to connect directly to the iPhone. The keyword here is "Directly". Telcare has a system that connects to the iPhone over the internet. Glooko sells a solution that connects more than a half dozen meters t Continue reading >>

New Dario Glucose Meter Is Iphone 7 Compatible

We're sorry, an error occurred. We are unable to collect your feedback at this time. However, your feedback is important to us. Please try again later. Hey, you must have heard that a new iPhone is out! Yep, Apple's iPhone 7 made big headlines this month -- particularly with the controversial hardware change eliminating the headphone jack in favor of a "Lightning" charging port and Bluetooth audio. And the new Dario smart system that recently hit the U.S. market now becomes officially the only diabetes device that plugs into your smartphone for blood sugar testing and is compatible with this latest iPhone generation. You may remember that once upon a time (six whole years ago) the Sanofi iBGStar was also a plug-in meter, but that product was essentially discontinued after Apple changed its port with the iPhone 5 -- meaning Dario is now one-of-a-kind currently on the market. Dario has actually been available in the U.S. since March 2016, but the Israel-based manufacturers (who changed their name from Labstyle Innovations to Dario Health in July) were ready for the update to the iPhone 7 model. Within days of Apple's launch, they shared news that they've filed for FDA approval of Lightning connector compatibility, and the company's hoping for a quick turnover since the port change is the only modification being made at this time. Dario is a sleek "all-in-one" glucoe monitoring system that's about the size of a cigarette lighter and sports a built-in lancet fingerpoker and cartridge of 25 test strips. The actual meter is a little black square with connector port, that you plug directly into an iPhone or tablet whenever you want to view and work with your data. We published a review on the Dario earlier in the year. Lightning is proprietary connector technology created by Continue reading >>

Ibgstar Turns Your Iphone Into An Fda-approved Glucose Meter For $99.95

iBGStar turns your iPhone into an FDA-approved glucose meter for $99.95 There are a lot of iPhone accessories out there, but few are FDA-approved: the iBGStar blood glucose meter is now on sale for $99.95. It's being sold through Apple stores and Walgreens, and attaches to an iPhone or iPod touch via the 30-pin connector to sync glucose levels with the bundled iBGStar Diabetes Manager app. The GlucoDock by Medisana is similar, but it's only available in Europe and it costs a bit more at 99.99, or roughly $130.85. The IBGStar uses disposable test strips to take blood samples, similar to many other glucose meters. After a few readings have been recorded, the Manager app analyzes the data and gives a readout of statistics, graphs, and trends so that users can make educated decisions about their treatments. You can even send a detailed log of the raw data to your doctor or physician. The IBGStar also does the GlucoDock one better in that it can function independently of an iPhone using its internal battery data is displayed on its OLED screen, and up to 300 readings can be stored and synced later. Ibgstar Glucometer For Iphone Now Available In U.s.

iBGStar Glucometer for iPhone Now Available in U.S. Sanofi has announced that its iBGStar, the first approved blood glucose meter to interface with the iPhone, is now available in the U.S. The device will display glucose readings on the iPhone (or iPod touch) screen and those will be saved for long term analysis. On the other hand, if your iPhone is out of power or you managed to lose it, fear not, the iBGStar dock will work independently and provide readings on its own little display. While disconnected from the iPhone, the meter will save glucose levels it measures locally until it is back in touch with the phone. Sanofi is reporting that the new glucometer is available from Apple and Walgreens at both their retail and online stores. The iBGStar Diabetes Manager App has a range of features and multiple views for analyzing glucose patterns on-the-go. Visual graphs and statistics can help people record and track their readings, carbohydrate intake, insulin doses (if taking insulin) and more. Color-coded scorecards show individual monitoring results for easy identification of high or low blood glucose levels. A share function allows specific data to be sent via e-mail to caregivers and/or healthcare teams. The iBGStar Diabetes Manager App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore. In March 2010, Sanofi and AgaMatrix signed an agreement for the development, supply and commercialization of Blood Glucose Monitoring solutions. iBGStar is a result of this agreement. Testing Your Blood Sugar With Your Iphone

Testing Your Blood Sugar With Your Iphone

Multinational pharmaceutical giant Sanofi Aventis just unveiled it’s latest diabetes technology: a stand alone blood glucose monitor that can plug directly into your iPhone and iPod Touch. The device, known as the iBGStar, would allow diabetics to test their blood sugar levels on the go, record notes, and send information to their healthcare providers via a free iPhone App. According to Diabetes Mine, the iBGStar does not yet have FDA 510k clearance, but it is likely to come to market in January or February of 2011 for less than $100. Take a look at how the device will look with its own stylish iPhone case in the photo below. Devices like this are just another way in which continuous health monitoring could revolutionize medicine in the years ahead. The iBGStar is built off of a very similar technology developed by AgaMatrix (the Jazz Wavesense). However, the Sanofi Aventis device is likely the first that directly plugs the blood glucose monitor directly into the iPhone. This will allow diabetics to carry the iBGStar as just another part of their mobile phone, hopefully granting them more freedom and flexibility in their testing habits. Sanofi Aventis has included their Dynamic Electrochemistry assaying process which reportedly has better accuracy than many glucose meters on the market. The bigger advantage comes from the iBGStar Monitor App which users will be prompted to download for free the first time they plug in their device to their iPhone. As I mentioned above, the App allows diabetics to notate, record (up to 300 results with date and time), and send their tests to doctors. While many other monitors have allowed you to upload data to your computer, the iPhone connectivity to the iBGStar may make patients more likely to actually take advantage of this opportun Continue reading >>

Ibgstar Iphone Glucometer, Physician Video Review: An Impressive Glucose Meter

Ibgstar Iphone Glucometer, Physician Video Review: An Impressive Glucose Meter

iBGStar iPhone glucometer, Physician video review: An impressive glucose meter (Click on the above opening image to see the video review) Sure! my friend enthusiastically responded. I was not expecting his answer as nobody is usually excited about pricking their finger with a needle. I had just finished opening and setting up the iBGStar, which is the recently released iPhone/iPod Touch-based glucometer by Sanofi US. With its sleek black packaging and Apple-inspired, surprisingly thin form factor, the iBGStar attaches to the iPhone via the dock connector and commands a sense of coolness not commonly found on medical devices. As physicians, we have long bemoaned the lack of patient compliance with home glucose monitoring systems, and the iBGStar might be able to reverse this by utilizing the cool factor of the iPhone. Ill be honest, I did not have high expectations when I first was assigned to review the iBGStar. I expected yet another clunky, poorly-conceived iPhone health peripheral that would be little more than an interesting concept. However, when I first laid eyes on the black packaging that stood out from all of its boring competitors, I got the sense that this might be a different experience. After opening the box and laying out the glucometer, I was genuinely surprised by its small size and light weight. It is approximately the width and thickness of the iPhone, and about as tall as 80% of the iPhones bottom strip (where the home button is). More impressive is the fact that the peripheral feels weightless: it does not change the overall weight of the phone, and more importantly does not feel as if would loosen itself too easily from the dock connector. Its silver edge and black screen makes it blend in aesthetically with both the white and black varieties of th Continue reading >>

Ibgstar Blood Glucose Meter Attachment For The Iphone

Ibgstar Blood Glucose Meter Attachment For The Iphone

iBGStar Blood Glucose Meter Attachment For The iPhone iBGStar Blood Glucose Meter Attachment For The iPhone At the meeting of Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Stockholm, Sweden, Sanofi-aventis announced the worlds first attachment to iPhone and iPod that is a standalone medical device. The plug-in iBGStar was developed by Sanofi-aventis and AgaMatrix. The iBGStar device not only relies on the iPhone to perform computational functions and display results, as well as to enter them into iBGStar Diabetes Manager logging software, it also sports AgaMatrixs proprietary Dynamic Electrochemistry technology to perform glucose measurements. Dynamic Electrochemistry is a technology that essentially takes a time-varying input signal and processes it to deliver much richer digital output with more precise glucose measurements. Without giving out too many details, Sanofi-aventis says that this new method compensates for many interfering factors that can often distort blood glucose results, helping to ensure accurate and reliable blood glucose readings. Along with iBGStar for iPhone, Sanofi has also unveiled a new glucose meter called BGStar that also relies on Dynamic Electrochemistry.More from the press release: BGStar and iBGStar have been designed by listening to the needs and desires of people with diabetes. Both products aim to integrate convenient, accurate and easy-to-use blood glucose management with decision-making support in everyday lives of people with diabetes. The ultra-compact iBGStar can be plugged into an iPhone or iPod touch and displays results on a full-color, touch screen. It can also be used separately for on-the-go testing. The specially-designed and simple iBGStar Diabetes Manager App will allow data to be easily managed and communicated to hea Continue reading >>

Ibgstar Meter Turns Your Iphone Into A Blood Glucose Meter

Posted by Nikhil on May 08, 2012 in iPhone Accessories , iPhone News , iPod Touch The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the iBGStar Meter a blood glucose monitoring system that works with the iPhone and iPod touch. As the first and only blood glucose meter to be used in conjunction with the iPhone and the iPod Touch , the iBGStar allows users diagnosed with diabetesto track, record and manage important information on-the-go. The accessory is like a dongle that plugs directly into the dock connector and works with the freeiBGStar Diabetes Manager Appthat is available in the App Store. iBGStar Test strips need to be bought along withthe glucose meter that is inserted into the strip port to take the blood samples. The dongle then syncs the blood glucose reading with theiBGStar Diabetes Manager App. You can then view and analyse the data with the iPhone app and also share the results with your healthcare provider. Shawna Gvazdauskas, Vice President and Head of Devices of Sanofi-Aventis, the developer of the iBGStar, noted in a phone call conducted by Diabetes Mine : This is a momentous occasion. Obviously were as excited as you are, but I cant disclose any details at this early stage. Were not issuing any statements yet, but I can say that a generic announcement was made at the mHealth conference today. The approval of such a product by the FDA paves the way for future innovations in medical technology. Analyst David Kliff of Diabetic Investor throws in his two cents: With this approval well finally see if iPhone users who also have diabetes will favor a meter that works with their phone or will they remain loyal to their existing monitor. Although the iPhone is wildly popular and the iBGStar will certainly have the cool factor, this does not solve some of the fu Continue reading >>

Ibgstar Blood Glucose Meter Review

Ibgstar Blood Glucose Meter Review

iBGStar is the first blood glucose meter to integrate blood glucose testing with a smartphone. From Sanofi, the iBGStar is compatible with iPhone. This blood glucose meter takes blood glucose monitoring to the next level, allowing you to manage your diabetes any time, anywhere. The iBGStar is compatible with Apples iPhone and the iPod Touch, allowing you to easily view and analyse results on the go and enabling you to use your iPhone or iPod Touch as your blood glucose diary . The only requirement of the smartphone is that it must be running at least iOS5. The iBGStar is not compatible with Android or smartphones running iOS4 or earlier operating systems. The iBGStar is an accurate meter that gives plasma equivalent readings, requiring only a small droplet of blood (0.5 microlitres). The meter requires no battery changes and is instead recharged similarly to a phone. The iBGStar uses BGStar test strips which require no coding. The iBGStar is one of the very smallest blood glucose meters on the market, measuring less than 6cm long and less than 3cm wide. The style of the iBGStar matches that of an iPhone or iPod Touch. You could easily be forgiven for not having any idea that its actually a blood glucose meter that youre plugging into your phone. The iBGStar's app can be downloaded from the Apple App store and just needs syncing with iTunes to get it up and running. The software application that you download to your iPhone or iPod Touch is called Diabetes Manager App. This is a free app and gives a variety of log tables, graphs, averages (including custom averages) and standard deviations. The iBGStar from Sanofi Aventis is somewhat unique because it plugs directly into an iPhone or iPod Touch. The iBGStar is one of the smallest blood glucose meters available.
