Your Weight And Diabetes

Diabetes is a group of disorders characterized by chronic high blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) due to the body's failure to produce any or enough insulin to regulate high glucose levels. There are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes, which often occurs in children or adolescents, is caused by the body's inability to make insulin or type 2 diabetes, which occurs as a result of the body's inability to react properly to insulin (insulin resistance). Type 2 diabetes is more prevalent than type 1 diabetes and is therefore seen in roughly 90% of all diabetes cases. Type 2 diabetes is predominantly diagnosed after the age of forty, however, it is now being found in all age ranges, including children and adolescents. The impact of diabetes goes beyond chronic hyperglycemia. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness (diabetic retinopathy), end stage kidney diseases (diabetic nephropathy) and non-traumatic lower extremity amputations (diabetic neuropathy) in working-age adults. People with diabetes are also two to four times more likely to experience cardiovascular complications and strokes. Diabetes and its related complications result in an estimated 200,000+ deaths each year Continue reading >>

My doctor prescribed Metformin for me but it has me feeling really unwell. Does anyone know if the Metformin Extended Release version has the same side effects such as stomach issues and just feeling like blah? I didn't have these symptoms until I started the Metformin.

My GP prescribed Metformin XR (extended release) for me, but as they were in short supply here in Australia so my pharmacist gave me the fast release Metformin instead.
I did not have any problems with any upset stomach or the getting the scours other people say they get.
Metformin XR are now available to me and I have gone on to them now, also without any side effects

  3. MrsGriffy

Both myself and my husband found that the slow release Metformin is kinder on the stomach than the regular one, but we also found that different brands of Metformin affected us differently.
We've both taken Sukkarto SR before, and that made us both ill with stomach problems, lots of rushing to the loo and generally feeling a bit crap. For me, it was so bad that I stopped taking it, and my blood sugar raised dangerously high as a result.
When I spoke to the diabetic nurse she changed brands to Glucophage SR and, as long as I take it straight after a meal, my stomach problems are sorted. My husband later changed to Glucophage SR and his stomach, although not perfect, is a lot better than it was.
The diabetic nurse said that if any medication is making us ill we must tell her as she can prescribe different ones till we find the right ones for our bodies.
Good luck in finding something that is a little less evil on your stomach

Could You Have Type 2? 10 Diabetes Symptoms

Diabetes symptoms Diabetes affects 24 million people in the U.S., but only 18 million know they have it. About 90% of those people have type 2 diabetes. In diabetes, rising blood sugar acts like a poison. Diabetes is often called the silent killer because of its easy-to-miss symptoms. "Almost every day people come into my office with diabetes who don't know it," says Maria Collazo-Clavell, MD, an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. The best way to pick up on it is to have a blood sugar test. But if you have these symptoms, see your doctor. Watch the video: 5 Ways to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes Increased urination, excessive thirst If you need to urinate frequently—particularly if you often have to get up at night to use the bathroom—it could be a symptom of diabetes. The kidneys kick into high gear to get rid of all that extra glucose in the blood, hence the urge to relieve yourself, sometimes several times during the night. The excessive thirst means your body is trying to replenish those lost fluids. These two symptoms go hand in hand and are some of "your body's ways of trying to manage high blood sugar," explains Dr. Collazo-Clavell. Weight loss Overly high b Continue reading >>

Insulin plays a key role in helping sugar (glucose) enter your cells, thus providing them energy. When your cells don't get the glucose they need for energy, your body begins to burn fat for energy, which produces ketones. Ketones are acidic and so when they build up in the blood, they make the blood more acidic, leading to the condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
Now, in type-1 diabetes, there is no insulin production whereas in type-2, there is impairment of insulin production. Thus why Type-2 diabetic people hardly get DKA.
Note: Diabetic ketoacidosis is a serious condition that might lead to diabetic coma or even death.

  2. Lucas Verhelst

In order for the cells in your body to access the glucose in your bloodstream so they can use it as energy they need insulin. Insulin acts like a key, opennin the cell door to allow the entry of glucose. Type 1 diabetics produce no insulin and need to inject it, thus the amount of insulin they have is strictly limited. Once they run out of insulin the glucose remains in the blood stream. If this occurs over a long period of time their blood glucose levels will rise due to the release of glucose from the liver. High blood sugar levels causes ketoacidosis which leads to coma and death.

  3. Keith Phillips

Although type 2 diabetics suffer from insulin resistance, the condition rarely has an absolute negative effect on the bodies ability to convert glucose to usable energy. Type 1 diabetics have little or no ability to produce insulin. With the exception of neural cells, the rest of the body which without insulin is experiencing starvation, will consume its own tissues. (this is how people have endured periods of famine). This process however produces by products that eventually overwhelm the body's ability to process toxins.

Top 8 Signs that you are eating too much sugar Most of us have a sweet tooth and we love eating sugary foods. Not only children, many adults have a habit of eating more sugar than necessary. Aside from the natural sugar in foods like fruits, many foods and beverages have added sugar to them, which can contribute to problems like weight gain and obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Here are Top 8 Signs that you are eating too much sugar 1. Gain weight Eating too much sugar leads to weight gain and an increased risk of obesity. Empty calories in sugar inhibit your fat burning cells. In addition, it causes a high level of insulin in your body and disorders with your metabolism. 2. Type 2 Diabetes Eating too much sugar or sugary foods is one of the main reasons to develop type 2 diabetes. Excess sugar causes resistance to insulin and elevated insulin in the blood, two key factors that contribute to the development of diabetes. In addition, eating more sugar leads to an accumulation of fatty deposits around the liver. Overtime affects the functioning of the pancreas, which in turn leads to insulin resistance. 3. Poor oral health Sugar is not at all good for your oral health. It is one of the reasons behind gum disease and cavities. Several bacteria naturally grow in your mouth, and when you eat sugary foods, you are giving bacteria a chance to thrive and multiply, leading to cavities. 4. Heart problems If you suffer from some type of heart problem, the culprit could be the high level of sugar in your diet. A sugary diet has the potential to wreak havoc on your heart as it can cause high blood pressure as well as high cholesterol. 5. Bad Memory High doses of sugar lead to a rapid rise in your blood sugar, which in turn prevents glucose from entering cells, including brain cells. Without glucose, the brain lacks the energy needed to function properly. This can cause trouble concentrating, remembering and making decisions. 6. Skin problems Sugar has an inflammatory effect on the body, so it contributes to the inflammatory problems of the skin. In addition, high sugar intake leads to a process known as glycation, which can speed up the aging process and make your skin more likely to bleed and develop wrinkles. 7. Low energy Sugar is full of empty calories that are not providing any nutrition. Although eating sugary foods gives you a quick energy boost, you will soon end up crashing and feeling fatigued. 8. Poor liver function A diet rich in sugar can also affect the health of the liver. Sugar is mainly composed of glucose and fructose, both metabolized in the liver and converted into lipids. When you eat more sugar, your liver has to work harder. In addition, overproduction of lipids may further affect their liver function.

Can You Get Diabetes From Eating Too Much Sugar?

Sugar is irresistible to most people. So irresistible, in fact, that sugar cravings might be rooted in evolution. Craving sugary foods, or so the theory goes, could help prevent starvation. In a modern world, however, where food is often plentiful, sugar consumption is linked to diabetes, obesity, and other health problems. Research into the connection between sugar consumption and diabetes is ongoing. Most doctors argue that sugar alone does not trigger diabetes. But some emerging research suggests a closer link between sugar consumption and diabetes than was previously thought. Can people get diabetes from eating too much sugar? Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes affect the body's ability to regulate blood glucose levels. But eating sugar will not cause type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition, which causes the body to attack cells that produce insulin. Damage to these cells undermines the body's ability to manage blood glucose. Type 2 diabetes is more complex. Sugar consumption will not directly cause diabetes. However, excess sugar consumption can cause weight gain. Obesity increases the risk of diabetes. Once a person has diabetes, eating too much sugar can mak Continue reading >>

Experienced slin users please post up your protocols and I will add them to this post for 1 large collaboration. Mine is not far off from a well known protocol, I just adjust it for my needs.
    Robi's Bulking Protocol
NOTE: For first time users, start at a low dose slin and work your way up to the 18iu. Adjust carbs as needed starting at 10g/iu TOTAL between your shakes and as you gain experience start cutting a bit out.
45 mins pre-workout: Take 10iu HGH (Optional, you can bulk without the GH but the results aren't the same)
    30 mins pre-workout: Take 18iu of Novorapid (or Humalog/Apidra)
    15 minutes pre-workout: Shake #1
    Shake #1:
    pre-workout powder of your choice
    5-10g creatine
60g carb powder (I personally use QSE Gold Medal Carbs because it's cheap and available locally)
    2 scoops BCAA
Intra Workout: Sip on Shake #2 (I usually start at around the 15 minute point before the peak of the slin hits)
    Shake #2
    80g Dextrose
    5-10g creatine
    2 scoops BCAA
Post Workout: I typically just do a post workout meal as usual. Either something like Mutant Mass or chicken/rice. At this point I'm usually a bit past the 2 hour point from injection and the peak has worn off and the slin is working it's way out of my system so I don't panic too much on macro's here.
    JMONKEY'S SLIN PROTOCOL - PREWORKOUT
Pre-Workout: 45 min before workout inject 35iu of Humulin R
Start sipping on intra workout drink
    Drink Contents- 100g dextrose
    10-20g creatine
    20-25g bcaa
When workout is complete I have a second drink
    Drink contents- 50g dextrose
    75g protein isolate
2 hours later I will have a full meal
    JMONKEY'S SLIN PROTOCOL - POSTWORKOUT
Post Workout: Inject 40iu of slin immediatly after workout
    Drink post workout drink
    Drink contents- 100g dextrose
    10-20g creatine
    75g protein isolate
1 hour after drink I will have a full meal
NOTE: As Robi stated start with a low dose of insulin and work your way up until you are comfortable. Start with 10g of carbs per iu of insulin you use and decrease until your comfortable.
    Robi's Keto inducing slin protocol.
NOT for inexperienced users. This can be done to induce deep levels of ketosis in 24hrs versus your regular 3-4 day time period. This promotes faster fat loss but can be very dangerous.
Last meal for carb up at night (Saturday night): Eat a high GI meal such as candies, ice cream, etc.. etc..
Morning upon waking (Sunday Morning): 20mins HIIT cardio on an empty stomach
Meal plan: Resume eating your normal keto diet with less than 30g of carbs for the entire day
Slin Use: Starting with breakfast, take 3-5iu of novorapid (or humalog/apidra). DO NOT consume any additional carbs outside of your meal plan.
Repeat this with lunch and supper. No need for slin use for the shakes in between, I use it only with solid food meals.
By the end of the day you will have taken between 9 and 15iu of slin and only 30g of carbs. You will feel exhausted, your head will likely hurt and you will be feeling very dry.
When you wake up Monday morning, you will be deep into ketosis and burning only fats as fuel for the entire week. This makes a keto diet extremely efficient. But be safe.

Great post robi, I want to do slin, but I'm going to wait until I can save up to run gh, plus my peptides on top, this is a great post
Do you find the creatine in both shakes more beneficial while using slin, as opposed to just the usual 5-10g dose, due to the shuttling effects?
And do you see added performance using it pre workout as opposed to post, strength and muscle endurance wise?
Thanks in advance, just trying to figure out if slin would truly be beneficial as a strength athlete? As it's not talked about as much from a powerliftig standpoint, as it is with bodybuilding
