People with diabetes can have a number of symptoms such as confusion, slurred speech, unconsciousness and lack of coordination. Sometimes these symptoms can come on rapidly without warning. Your slurred speech and lack of coordination could give the appearance of being drunk to police, and you may end up in jail instead of a hospital. In any accident, if you’re unconscious and can’t speak for you Continue reading >>

Diabetic Id Bracelets | Diabetic Connect

So, my doctor has told me that I need to get an I.D. bracelet, or necklace. I'm looking online and have found them to be rather costly. Where is the cheapest place to get the not so plain ones. Wal Mart is your best bet for price. I went with my mother's advice and got a necklace. She was a Type 2 for the last 20 years of her life. She always said a bracelet can slide off or get lost if your involved in a accident. But a necklace will stay put unless God forbid your head comes off. My PCP told me to engrave the necklace with my conditions or "refer to medical card in wallet" ( I have 4 different conditions). I inherited my bracelet from a friend who died because she did not take care of her diabetes. I do NOT like having to wear the id bracelet. It is like saying there is nothing else to me than a high blood glucose. So I decided to make the bracelet say a little more. I went to Hobby Lobby and went to the jewelry making department and bought some charms and split rings to attach the charms to the bracelet. The charms represent different aspects of my life and personality and you can still plainly see the medical id section of the bracelet. For me it is a win-win situation. Walmart has them in pharmacy department for 7 dollars, I bought mine on line at DLIFE.com for 5 dollars. I made my I.D bracelets, I got the first one from a I.D. co. they were beautiful but expensiveSo I went to a craft store, got the clamps, beads and the thread to string the beads on. I have about 50 now they match what ever I wear and if you like crafting you can really get imagitive. You can get the beads for about $2.00 a bag the clamps are more, get the silver or gold plated they last longer get the medium ones. you will have to get the I.D part made. but you can change the band for what ever y Continue reading >>

Medical Alert Jewelry For Diabetes

Medical Alert Jewelry For Diabetes

When I learned I had developed Type 2 diabetes, I did not go out that day and buy a medical alert necklace. In fact, it took me several years to see the need to wear one. Adjusting to this chronic condition took a long time because Type 2 diabetes turned my life upside down. There were new medicines, blood sugar logbooks, and diabetes education classes. I visited doctors more in my first year with diabetes than in my entire life before. There was also a new financial pressure. Having diabetes costs money. So I was not interested in buying a necklace or bracelet to warn some stranger about my diabetes. Getting medical alert jewelry was not on my to-do list. But experiencing a low blood sugar in the middle of the grocery store forced me to think about how having Type 2 diabetes was changing my life. I had to either stop going places by myself or plan ahead. This chronic condition makes us vulnerable in new ways. Things change whether we like it or not, especially as we grow older with Type 2 diabetes. Here are some of the things that made me decide to buy a medical alert necklace: • Almost every person with diabetes has blood low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) at times. These episodes can occur with little or no warning. • One of the side effects of hypoglycemia is confusion. It may be difficult to communicate your needs, and a piece of medical alert jewelry can speak for you. • Emergency medical professionals say they look for medical alert bracelets and necklaces. When questioned about it, three out of four said they looked for a necklace or bracelet first before they did anything else. So when every second counts, your medical alert jewelry saves time. • Medical errors in hospitals do happen, and you are most at risk for those errors on admission and discharge. All About Diabetes Medical Alert Id And Why You Should Wear One

All About Diabetes Medical Alert Id And Why You Should Wear One

In this article, we will look at why you should wear a medical ID/bracelet for diabetes. We will also look at all of the different types of medical IDs that are available for diabetes. There are literally hundreds of ways you can express yourself. However, you will want to make sure that your ID is not so decorative that it is unrecognizable as a medical identification. After all, the primary purpose of a medical ID is to alert emergency and medical personnel, and even the public, to the fact that you have a medical condition (in this case, diabetes). It won’t do you any good if you don’t wear it Wearing your Medical ID all of the time, even when you sleep, is important. If you get into trouble with a low or high blood sugar, and you can’t help yourself, emergency medical personnel will see that you have diabetes, and will know what to do to help you right away. If you don’t have your medical ID on you, then they aren’t going to know that you are diabetic. It happens every day that people with diabetes are pulled over by law enforcement for having a low blood sugar while driving. They may be swerving, or running off the road. If the law enforcement officer sees that the person has a medical ID on their wrist or other easily visible area, they can quickly determine that the person may be having a low blood sugar due to diabetes, and act accordingly. This could save you a whole lot of hassle, and keeps you safe. The officer will know what to do. They are trained to know how to treat low blood sugar for this very reason. If the officer does not see that you have a medical ID on because you forgot to wear it, he or she could think you are intoxicated. In general, all medical personnel and first responders know to look for a medical ID when they arrive on the scene Continue reading >>

Diabetic Jewelry Can Save Your Life

Diabetic Jewelry Can Save Your Life

Diabetic jewelry can be a dog tag, a medical alert bracelet or a beautiful gold charm. But whether you spend a little or a lot, this piece of jewelry will save your life. Do you really need diabetic jewelry? You are already spending so much to manage diabetes. What if you never need it? This is the same argument used against wearing seatbelts and locking doors. You may never need those things, but if the time comes that you do, you will bless the day you chose to use them. Over 95% of emergency medical people say they look for medical alert jewelry, and 75% of them say they search for a bracelet or necklace first before they do anything else. Here's another statistic that might help you make up your mind about medical ID. Half of medical errors occur on admission or discharge from a hospital. Diabetic jewelry and other medical alert items could keep that from happening to you. Type 2 diabetes symptoms include hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. One of the most troubling side effects of low blood sugar is confusion. I know from personal experience that you do not have to be in a diabetic coma to be unable to speak for yourself clearly. There may not be a friend or family member present to tell the hospital or emergency personnel that you are diabetic. At the moment they need to make quick decisions, your diabetic ID tag fills in the blanks for them. There are horror stories taken from the news even today about people in diabetic shock who were treated as if they were on drugs or alcohol. The symptoms of diabetic shock need to be diagnosed quickly to save your life. Without diabetic jewelry you take the chance of a delay in treatment out of a misunderstanding. If you are diabetic you should have diabetic jewelry on your neck or wrist. If you have drug allergies or are on blo Continue reading >>

Which Medical Id Bracelet Is Right For You?

Which Medical Id Bracelet Is Right For You?

Living with diabetes requires vigilance. Monitoring your condition daily and taking medications prescribed by your doctor are both vital to your health. Even with proper management, medical situations or emergencies are still possible. Medical ID bracelets can come in handy during times of crisis, especially if you aren’t able to direct the person caring for you. A medical ID bracelet often does double duty. Not only can they be fashionable pieces of jewelry, but they also contain information about your condition and your emergency contact information. In some instances, wearing this simple accessory can mean the difference between immediate care and prolonged trial and error during treatment. According to a survey by American Medical ID, approximately 95 percent of responders look for a medical ID in an emergency situation. The survey also found that more than 75 percent of doctors look for an ID when assessing someone. Although medical information can be included on a number of different accessory items, such as necklaces or key chains, the survey found that about 95 percent of people check the wrist first. What information should you include on your medical ID bracelet? To ensure its efficiency, it’s important that you include all relevant medical information on your ID bracelet. You should include: the type of diabetes you have whether you take insulin any allergies you may have an in-case-of-emergency phone number (also known as an ICE number) any implants, such as a pacemaker or insulin pump, that shouldn’t go in an MRI scanner any other pertinent medical information Our top 10 medical ID bracelets There are many types of ID bracelets on the market today. Some have traditional features, such as a simple engraved plate with a chain. Waterproof and sweatproof Continue reading >>

The Best Medical Alert Bracelets Of 2018

The Best Medical Alert Bracelets Of 2018

Types of Medical Alert Bracelets Since 2015, we've researched all types of medical alert bracelets to help you find the most appropriate bracelet for your situation. The type of medical alert bracelet you need depends on many factors – your medical condition, style preferences, comfort preferences, budget and more. Medical ID Bracelets With USB Storage If you have a complicated list of medical conditions, you probably can’t fit the information onto a traditional bracelet with an engraved plate. This is why many medical alert bracelets feature hidden USB storage. A good example of this is the CARE medical alert bracelet. By using the pre-loaded software, you can upload your medical history and requirement. The USB port acts as the clip for the bracelet, which is great because this also means that it comes off easily. If you need help, the bright red medical insignia tells the EMTs that you have special medical requirements. They remove the bracelet, plug it into a computer and can access all of your information. Medical ID Bracelets With NFC Some medical ID bracelets make use of NFC technology, which is a wireless signal that transfers data quickly to a smartphone or other NFC devices rather than a USB drive. A great example of this is the HealthID Emergency Medical ID Bracelet. Similar to the bracelets with USB storage, you add your medical information to the bracelet and EMTs simply have to tap the bracelet with their smartphone to access the information. This provides quicker access to your information than with USB bracelets, but it requires EMTs to have phones or devices with NFC. Medical ID Watches Aside from providing critical medical information, most medical alert bracelets don't provide much practical value. If you're willing or able to pay for it, a medica Continue reading >>

Identify Yourself Test At Universal Medical Id. Diabetes Bracelets And Diabetic Necklaces.

Diabetes bracelet or diabetic jewelry is probably the last thing on anybody's mind when dealing with diabetes. After all, bracelets, necklaces and anklets may not seem to serve any purpose beyond being decorative. However, when it comes to chronic diseases like diabetes, being identified as having a medical condition is often necessary. This is why diabetes bracelets are often worn not just to inform anyone about the wearer's health status but also to alert people, such as rescuers, first-aid staff and medical professionals of the appropriate action to perform when the wearer is involved in an emergency. When diabetics were first encouraged to wear diabetes bracelets, some people were not very supportive of getting "tagged" as a diabetic. However, the fact that the bracelets were medical alert tags quickly showed why it was a necessity. Today, it still is. Diabetes requires special medical care and attention. In some emergencies, the diabetic person may not always be able to speak or communicate. He or she may even be unresponsive. Furthermore, an emergency may occur when a relative or a friend who has knowledge about the diabetic person's diabetes may not be around. In these cases, a diabetes bracelet can silently inform the attending medical personnel of the disease. Diabetes can be a tricky and rather deceptive condition to have, primarily because blood sugar levels can fluctuate unpredictably. When blood sugar levels suddenly drop or sharply rise, blackouts can occur, requiring medical attention. Having a diabetes bracelet will let the medical staff know how to make the appropriate medical decisions that can save your life. In case you ever figure in an accident, any medications that may be necessary in order to treat you won't affect you in a negative way. Always Continue reading >>
