Does Medtronic ever get back to job applicants? I have applied for two positions one in September and one in November. Both positions are still posted on the careers website. My resume status for both positions still states "resume under review." I haven't heard anything from human resources or anyone else for that matter. I did receive the email stating my resumes were received and I have been checking my spam folder, to ensure I don't miss anything. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you in advance. Fortunate to have spent over a decade with Medtronic, I can honestly say that their mission, direction, and motivation are genuine. I acknowledge as with any company, that financial motives are a key factor in decision making, but I can honestly say that I have witnessed a substantial number of occasions where the patient, customer, and employee come before the financial impact of the situation. This in combination with the direction that our current CEO (Omar Ishrak) is steering us gives me genuine belief in the overarching goal of our company and allows me to sleep soundly at night. On the other hand, between the CEO (and his team) and the employees that are working day-in-and-day-out with the patients exists a completely misaligned and borderline antagonistic component of corporate culture at it worst. I have witnessed far too many examples of corporate 'jockeying' and allowing personal career agendas to supersede good corporate stewardship in the local, Australian market. Now, I understand that it is admirable and more than acceptable to want to advance your career with any organization, but it should never be at the cost of the 'external focus' of the company; which happens to be one of the key-traits for the company. To that note, and as my final recommendation/review, I recommend approaching Medtronic ANZ with caution as the mission will carry us all, but the local politics will make the ride rather uncomfortable. I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Medtronic (Saint Paul, MN). I was referred to this position by a recruiter. They asked me about my job history and salary expectations. I was assured that they could give me comparable pay to what I was making at the time (I was relocating) to make this more of a lateral move salary wise (more on that later). They then referred me to the hiring manager for an over the phone interview. I spoke with him for about 30 minutes about my experience and what the position is like. He liked what he heard so I was asked to come to the Twin Cities to interview in person. They did not cover travel expenses (didn't really bother me, but might for people who are coming from very far). The in person interview was difficult, to say the least. The questions were done using a format I hadn't encountered before, and I was using situations I had encountered in my past to point out that I'm flexible and have learned lessons from mistakes I've made. It lasted almost two hours and it consisted of two separate interviews with a fifteen minute break in between. The interviewers were friendly and patient, however. About a week later, I was made a formal offer. They didn't meet my salary request, so I had to decline but they seemed like a good organization to work for and wish it would have worked out. How long should I wait for the interviewer to get in touch? Not getting a follow-up call, as promised, happens more than you think. Candidates are sure they are a certainty for the position, they're expecting an offer. Then, they hear nothing. This is not only frustrating for the candidate, but reflects poorly on the company. If after a Monday interview you were told that a decision would be made before the end of the week, by Friday you'll be having doubts if there has been no call from the company. Does this mean you're not going to get an offer? Should you call to find out what's up. Or, should she just wait until after the weekend? The fact is you have no idea why they haven't called, but you should hold your guns for a few more days before getting in touch. There may have been a crisis in the company and they may have a very valid reason for not calling you as promised. Of course it's common courtesy for them to get in touch to let you know the decision is being delayed, but companies aren't always concerned about what the most courteous thing to do is. If you don't get a return call as promised, call them and leave a message. Be prepared, professional and courteous. Try to reach the person at least once, explaining you want the information before you consider other positions because this company is your first choice. If you don't get an answer, forget about it. They emailed me the day after I applied online to set up an interview that was a few days later the following week. I interviewed with two leaders from Medtronic, one was the manager of the Customer Service department and the other was an HR Rep. The interview was three parts, the first part was a getting to know you section where they asked you to explain your employment history, how you got where you are today and why you were considering the position. The next part was a series of about 5-7 behavioral questions and the third was my turn to ask any further questions I had. "The worst place to work for, the management at the Joliet, IL location do not care about anyone but themselves, they will lie right to your face. They make you work almost every Saturday mandated and take away from your personnel time with your family, they do not care about their employees or trying to keep them, they would rather have a bunch of temp employees than regular, and they use the temp employees for 119 days and get rid of most of them and get a new bunch since they're hired on after 120 days, it is sad that the CEO cares about the employees and their families but the people in charge of the Joliet, IL DC do not at all, they look at us as just numbers, when I say management I do not mean the supervisors, they do try but they are treated like crap also and do not take their suggestions, it is the worst company to work for. I hope the CEO will see this and start making surprise inspections and look into the team running this location, they are a sad bunch and have a lot of unhappy employees."
