Metformin And Menstrual Delays
Has anyone been on this medication and did it delay your cycle the first month you took it? My cycles do not fall in the regular category, but do not usualy run over 39 days... I was wondering if since my Dr. Started me on metformin a few weeks ago if that could effect my cycle. You marked this post as helpful! I changed my mind My doctor put me on it to regulate my cycle because I rarely have periods due to my pcos. In some instances, metformin is used to help women ovulate and become pregnant. Today I just found out I have pcos and my doctor recomended metformin and to regulate my period. And I dont know if I should take it or not. But I think I will try it. I hope you find out why your cycle is delayed. This is my first cycle on it so I don't know for sure. My doctor said it should shorten my cycle. Yes, I had that happen to me. I was three or four days late. It evened out by the next cycle. By the way, I had two miscarriages without metformin, and the third pregnancy gave us a wonderful, healthy, full-term baby girl. Metformin , Late Period Any One Going Through This?
Metformin , late period any one going through this? So I have been doing pretty good up to this month my cycles have been maybe a day or two off well this is going on day 16 (give or take a few days) with out any period - My last period was June 1st and it lasted about 5 days! My cycles was doing really good from Dec until this month with nothing,my cycles some where between a 30 and 34 day cycle and my periods last from 5- 6 days long with the last day spotting normally! so I counted from the last day of my 1st day period June 1st I should have started aroundany time between July 1 - 4th! I was diagnosed back in Dec 09 with pcos so I know that periods could get off track and stuff we just had a baby girl back in Nov 30th she will be 8 month on the 30th of this month so as you can tell im a little worried! I have been having period like cramps off and on but nothing yet and my mood has been all over the place! Can Clomid Delay Your Period And Can You Be Pregnant Even After Bfn's?
Can Clomid delay your period and can you be pregnant even after BFN's? Hi I am after some reassurance and info regarding Clomid and I wudl be grateful for any help or to hear some similar experiences and outcomes. DH 36 me 33 TTC 2yrs+. Unexplained subfertility. Started first round of Clomid 100mg CD2-6 this month. Normal menstrual cycle 26-29 days long, but currently CH 33 and no AF! I have never been this late before, apart from when I was pregnant (unfortunately it was a chemical pregnancy). I have taken two HPT on CD 28 and CD 32 but both BFN. I feel like AF is coming as I have sore boobs and constipation and have some cramps and lower back pain. But I am also shattered and am sleeping loads. I am really worried that the clomid has stopped my period and messed up all my hormones, but I have also heard that some people don't get a BFP until 4 weeks after ovulation and that Clomid made them ovulate later. Unfortunately, I am not sure if I ovulated as I did OVK's on CD10-16 and noticed a faint LH line which got darker, but never darker than the other line and then faded away. I stopped testing after that assuming that my LH wasn't strong enough and I didn't ovulate, but I guess I could have ovulated later and not known. This is my first time posting anywhere. I try to Google things almost everyday, and figured I would prefer anyone's ideas on my specific situation. I miscarried a year ago in May. Since we started trying again 6 months after, every month my period would be late, and make us get excited for nothing. Now its been a year since i miscarried, Dr. found that i wasn't ovulating every month, and because of this my progesterone was low. Started AF 5/22, Dr. had me start Clomid day 3-7. Last pill was taken 5/28. Wondering if you can ovulate later than 10 days, o Continue reading >>
How Long Before Your Periods Were Normal After Metformin?
how long before your periods were normal after metformin? how long before your periods were normal after metformin? for anyone who has been on metformin before because of pcos, how long were you on it before your periods became regular? i've been on it for the last 10 days and i was wondering if this cycle will be normal? will af come on time (meaning less than 35 days since the last one) or will it take a while for my body to adjust? Re: how long before your periods were normal after metformin? For me I started on it in mid May and didn't get my first period until mid July. But I think it really depends on how often you were getting your period before starting it. I hadn't had a period in almost a year before that. Re: how long before your periods were normal after metformin? thanks for replying. have you ever been successful in conceiving while on metformin? Re: how long before your periods were normal after metformin? I have not had success however I haven't been able to stay on it longer than a couple of months at a time. It would give me such awful diarrehea, sorry, and they would say that it'ld eventually go away like after a week or two. Mine never did, I was to the point where taking anti-diarreheals weren't helping at all. I was then put on a medication to counter act it but that just make me so tired. So for about 2 weeks I was a walking zombie that sat on the toilet or slept all day everyday. It wasn't a pleasent experience for me at all. I have since stopped the use of metformin and do not plan on ever getting back on it again. I figure I'ld rather never have kids of my own blood than kill myself with dehydration and starvation. I don't mean to scare you, everyone I have talked to has had no major problems taking it at all, some got pregnant in a month or t Continue reading >>
Metformin Question Need Help!
I am on metformin 1000 mg. I am also taking vitex and since starting it, I have had a dead on 30 day cyle. I got pregnant in October and finished having a m/c on the 9th of November. I am now rather late for AF. Does metformin sometimes not work? Or does a period not always come after a m/c? I was exactly 5 wks 0 days. I would love to test, but am terrified of a BFN. So I guess I'm more just curious what your experiences are with metformin, if I could actually be preggo, or if I need to just wait longer for a period after a mc. I was told by my doctor that Metformin is a drug that improves insulin resistance, which is common in women with PCOS. Metformin by itself does not make sure that you get your period or ovulate. But in some women with mild PCOS, metformin does help to get them ovulate, though it is not a drug that induces ovulation, like Clomid. Also quite often , it might be a while before your cycle stabilises after an m/c. yeah well i have a five year old thanks to metformin so yes it induces and promotes ovulation read the side effects and precautions My experience with metformin is quite positive. I'm on 1500mg a day. I started in May2011 and got pregnant in July. Unfortunately, miscarried as well. My Doctor said to count your miscarriage day as CD #1. That cycle for me lasted 46 days and I'm pretty sure I didn't ovulate eventhought I started with Metformin right away. Metformin does not induce ovulation like Chlomid or Letrozole does, from my understanding. But it makes us resistant to insulin which helps with ovulation A LOT. I've heard nothing but good things about metformin. They don't call it "the miracle drug" for nothing. Today is the beginning of my third cycle after my miscarriage. Are you taking your temperature? Don't know if anyone is still foll Continue reading >>

I am always regular 34/35 days. Is it possible that it could have this affect? Have felt slight sickness from it but overall not too bad just wish I knew what was going on?! I think it can. Before I started Met, I was 31 days and then after starting Met I went to 36 days. The Following User Says Thank You to mc8678 For This Useful Post: I am a thin cyster 5'1 and 108 pounds In the past I had a chemical with 50mg Clomid so my doc decided to up my dose and combine it with injectables and my ovaries went boom with the follies. Thats when the doc was able to say I have PCOS. The biggest problem is I have no insulin resistance and all ALL my analysis are normal. The blood work shows no flaws despite checking them at diff labs. The HSG shows both tubes open. The U/S on CD 2 never shows cystic ovaries. and I have a follicle every cycle. Though DH is normal we have never conceived. So after we failed on the second IUI injectable cycle I decided to try Metformin before moving onto IVF in august. In the past my cycles have been varying from 32-35 days with one or two at 38 days. in my entire life I never missed a period. This is my first cycle on met (1500mg) and its already CD 39 and no sign of AF.. this is so strange I've read about it regulating cycles and here my regular cycle has been delayed cause of met. I tested negative for pregnancy so I feel really low today. I wonder has anyone ever experienced the same. Apparently Continue reading >>

10 Facts About Metformin And Pcos
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a relatively common hormonal disorder that is one of the leading causes of infertility. Some women who have PCOS develop insulin resistance. This occurs when the cells of the body don’t respond well to a hormone known as insulin. Insulin allows the cells to take sugar (glucose) from the blood. If the cells don’t take in this sugar it leads to higher levels of glucose and insulin circulating through the body in the bloodstream. This, in turn, leads to increased levels of androgens (male hormones) which cause the classic symptoms of PCOS such as excess hair growth and more importantly in terms of fertility – lack of ovulation. Getting pregnant with PCOS can be possible with the right diagnosis and treatment plan. Here are the Top 10 facts about metformin use in PCOS patients: 1) Metformin is a medication that is primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is marketed in the US under the names Fortamet, Glucophage, Glucophage XR, Glumetza and Riomet. It is available as a tablet, extended-release tablet and a liquid. 2) With infertility patients, it is used not because the women with PCOS have diabetes (although they do have an increased risk of developing this disease), but because it acts on improving use of insulin by the cells of the body and therefore reducing the level of insulin in the blood. This can lead to improved ovulation, more regular menstrual cycles as well as a reduction in excessive hair growth, acne and weight gain. It may also slow down or prevent the development of type 2 diabetes later in life. 3) To determine if it would be helpful for a patient with PCOS to use Metformin, they are given a 2 Hour Glucose Tolerance Test. First, a fasting blood sample is drawn to determine a baseline glucose level. The patient t Continue reading >>

PLZ HELP! Late period. Went off metformin after 8 mnths. had 1 period since and now late on period Long story short.... I had not had a period in 2 1/2 years after getting my IUD removed from having my son. I finally went to the doctor to get help since I wanted to have another one. He gave me provera to start my period and 500 mgs of metformin to keep it coming and clomid 50 for 2 months and 100 for one month. Metformin and provera worked I had a period all months. I went from a 39 day cycle down to 34-35 day cycle the last couple of months. I stopped taking the clomid on last failed cycle and then the metformin in the middle of the next cycle since we hadn't conceived and we just wanted to take a break. Well I had a period after that it was only 3 days long versus the usual 6 days long I have had since starting metformin. Well now Im 39 days into a cycle that is supposed to be 34-35 days long and getting negative pregnancy test. What is wrong? doctor he said it could be either pregnant or it could be from stopping the metformin. Im confused since I have had a period since stopping Continue reading >>

Absent Menstruation (amenorrhea) And Pcos
Copyright 2017 Insulite Health. All rights reserved. Absent Menstruation (Amenorrhea) and PCOS Is PCOS Disrupting Your Natural Menstrual Cycle? Have you experienced missing periods associated with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome? You are not alone! Missed periods, or Amenorrhea, is a very common symptom of PCOS, along with other types of menstrual irregularities. Missing one period is not usually considered a major issue because most women experience that a few times in their lives; however, missing three periods in a one-year span is one of the criteria for diagnosing PCOS. A large number of women actually discover they have PCOS when they seek help for irregular or missing periods. Amenorrhea can be a major concern because absence of menstruation can create infertility issues.3 To avoid future distress it is better to try to correct your Amenorrhea by addressing PCOS and the conditions that influence its severity like Insulin Resistance. Amenorrhea can be chronic or occur temporarily because of an underlying condition. It is classified as primary or secondary depending on when and how it manifests. Primary Amenorrhea: ?This is when menstruation does not commence by age 14 and secondary sex characteristics such as breast development are absent. Girls who develop normally but do not start their period by 16 also have primary amenorrhea.2 Secondary Amenorrhea: ?The absence of period for three consecutive cycles in a woman who previously menstruated. Women who are on birth control, pregnant, or lactating are excluded from this classification.1 Your menstrual cycle is influenced by many factors, such as stress, diet, lifestyle choices, medications, and underlying conditions such as PCOS. Understanding PCOS and treating this condition can improve menstrual irregularities like Continue reading >>
Diabetesdiscussions > Metformin Delays Menopause?
It's been awhile since I've been here, and I see we have new folks on board...welcome to you, and hello again to the regular posters on Diabetes Discussion. I hope all of you managed to survive the transistion to 2009 in relatively good shape...I'm a little battered and beaten myself, but I'm stumbling into the new year with all the grace I can muster, :B I see that there are new research and findings popping up on the Diabetes Monitor that I should check out-and I will, I promise Bill (chuckle). Meanwhile I have a question that I'd like to aim to female diabetics who have went through or are about to enter menopause and was on Metformin during that time...have you noticed any particular problems with Metformin possibly delaying menopause? The reason I ask is because I think Metformin may be delaying my menopause. I know Metformin can help regulate your menstrual cycle and is used by some fertility clinics to help women become pregnant because of this, plus the warning label on my Metformin package always cautions that women taking this drug should exercise greater than normal care in using birth control because of increased risk in getting pregnant. This past November I missed my period...probably not a big thing for a lot of women, once in awhile it happens, but for me it was the first time in 35 years since I started my menses that I ever missed (I'm not kidding, I have bad ones, so I'd had noticed not having one in the past). At first I was worried that something was wrong, but since it was just one month and nothing else was different (blood sugar, blood pressure, etc. was within normal range during the whole month), I let it go...and then my mom suggested that I might be going through menopause-I got excited then, because the thought of not having to deal with ba Continue reading >>

Effects Of Metformin On Body Mass Index, Menstrual Cyclicity, And Ovulation Induction In Women With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
Effects of metformin on body mass index, menstrual cyclicity, and ovulation induction in women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, 75235, USA. Metformin has been used as a treatment in many studies of the infertility associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We will review the literature on this topic as it specifically relates to changes in body mass index (BMI), improvement in menstrual cyclicity, and effects on ovulation and pregnancy rates. Review of studies addressing biochemical and clinical changes in women with PCOS on metformin. Changes in BMI, menstrual cyclicity, ovulation rate, and pregnancy rate. Metformin has been shown to produce small but significant reductions in BMI. Multiple observational studies have confirmed an improvement in menstrual cyclicity with metformin therapy. The studies addressing the concomitant use of metformin with clomiphene citrate initially predicted great success, but these have been followed by more modest results. There is little data in the literature concerning the use of metformin and hMGs. Some (but not all) women with PCOS have improvements in their menstrual cycles while on metformin. The data supporting the use of metformin in ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate and hMG remain to be confirmed by large, randomized, prospective studies. Continue reading >>
