If you are looking for Kannada brides and Kannada grooms , look no further than KannadaMatrimony. Kannada weddings closely resemble the traditional Hindu wedding. However, there are still several rituals and traditions which are unique to a Kannada wedding; Kashi yatra is one such tradition, wherein the groom pretends to leave for the city of Kashi as he has not found a suitable bride. His maternal uncle coaxes him into staying back by showing him the picture of the bride. During the wedding, the couple exchanges garlands, followed by Dhare Herdu, during which the bride's parents give her away to the groom. The wedding ceremony is complete after the Saptapadi ceremony where the couple takes seven rounds around the sacred fire. Wedding Blues For Youth With Diabetes

Wedding Blues For Youth With Diabetes

A 26-year-old city woman struggled to find a suitable life partner, because every time she disclosed she had Type 1 diabetes, the marriage proposal would be rejected. AURANGABAD: A 26-year-old city woman struggled to find a suitable life partner, because every time she disclosed she had Type 1 diabetes , the marriage proposal would be rejected. Married last year, her partner valued that she had disclosed her medical condition. "Some youth with Type 1 diabetes get into a compromised marriage with some negotiation. Very few find a rational partner, who accepts them with diabetes," she said. According to the World Health Organisation , Type 1 diabetes results from the body's failure to produce insulin and was previously called to as 'insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus' (IDDM) or 'juvenile diabetes'. Interestingly, a matrimony agency has set up a centre in Delhi for Type 1 diabetics, who find it difficult to find partners. Physician Aniket Inamdar said that a survey was conducted in India in 2006 on marriage-related problems among diabetics. Of the 2,000 respondents in age group of 19 to 31 years, finding a suitable life partner was among the most common concern, he said. An investigation was carried out by expert Ahlfield JE, Soler NG, Marcus SD on the impact of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus on marriage and having children a study on 50 young adults (aged 20-35 yr) with onset of the disease less than 20 year was done. None of the young adults in the study had made a conscious decision to remain unmarried, but 14 of 50 had decided not to have children. Both men and women with diabetes found that the disease had an impact on certain aspects of their marital life, at times leading to friction and causing a financial burden, said Vivek Tadwalkar, senior physician and h Continue reading >>

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) has a wide presence in children and has a high mortality rates. The disease, if left unmanaged, poses various challenges to the patient and health care providers, including development of diabetic complications and thus decreasing the life expectancy of the affected child. [1] A study in USA showed that when a 10-year-old boy or girl develops diabetes, he/she loses almost 18.7-19 years of life compared to their nondiabetic counterparts. A researcher has also stated "focused studies show that outcomes can be improved by better management, but there is no evidence of this actually happening on a worldwide basis." Newer treatment approaches have facilitated improved outcomes in terms of both glycemic control and reduced risks for development of complications. The major challenges remain in the development of approaches to the prevention and management of T1DM and its complications. The challenges of T1DM include awareness of the disease which is very poor amongst the general public and also in parents of T1DM children, and this needs to be improved to effectively counter the problem of T1DM. The general population is unaware of the existence of diabetes in children of 2-5 years of age and believe that it affects only the middle-aged group. Awareness among the public health care professionals is also very poor, and the syllabus curriculum of medicine students does not emphasize much on T1DM. The challenge of lack of awareness of T1DM can be met by increasing public awareness programs, conducting workshops for diabetes educators regarding T1DM in children (giving details of symptoms, diagnosis, diet, monitoring and management), newsletters, CMEs, online courses, and by structured teaching modules for diabetes educators. The Changing Diabetes Continue reading >>

Diabeticmatrimony.com - Matrimonial Website For The Diabetic

Type I diabetes is caused by the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas, which produces insulin. This is different from Type II diabetes, which is linked to a sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits. DiabeticMatrimony.com aims to provide Services of Matrimony, Awareness about diabetes and a lot of things for people who have diabetes. According to Dr. A. K. Jhingan, Chairperson, DDRC and founder of DiabeticMatrimony.com, there is a fear that diabetes-affected persons cannot have normal and healthy children. In fact, more often than not, diabetic men chose to remain silent about their disease before entering matrimony. Jhingan says what was most worrisome was the lack of sufficient knowledge about the disease. "The social implications of diabetes for the Indian subcontinent need special attention because of the regions prevalent culture of arranged marriages where families do not enquire about the prospective bride or grooms genetic history. This is compounded by a lack of awareness on diabetes," he says. The problem - which is especially acute in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh - can only be addressed through a mass movement, focused health campaigns and private and public sector involvement. Bitter Side Of Sugar

Bitter Side Of Sugar

Front Page > 7days > Story There are many misconceptions regarding juvenile diabetes, which usually sets in during teenage. As a result the patients are shunned in the marriage market, writes Hemchhaya De A storm broke out when Swati announced she was going to marry Udit. The familys objections had nothing to do with caste or community. What troubled them was Udits state of health; the Delhi-based software businessman suffered from Type 1 diabetes mellitus or juvenile diabetes, as its commonly known. So Swati turned to Dr Ashok Jhingan, an endocrinologist who heads the Delhi Diabetes Research Centre (DDRC), for help. She brought her relatives to my chamber and I had to fight with them to get their consent because they had so many misconceptions about Udits condition, recalls Dr Jhingan. Now they are happily married with two lovely children. Love and marriage were also proving to be a bitter pill for Vineet Bathla, a 30-something Faridabad businessman. His parents found it difficult to get a suitable bride for him because he had Type 1 diabetes. Most parents rejected Vineet as a prospective groom because they feared it foretold a lifetime of misery. The Bathlas too sought the DDRCs help. Finally, Vineet found a bride also a Type 1 patient from Punjab through the centres matchmaking efforts. Juvenile diabetes is a potentially life-threatening form of diabetes that usually develops during teenage years when the bodys immune system turns against its own insulin-producing cells. The more common and less severe form of diabetes, Type 2, develops with age, and is often the outcome of unhealthy diets and a sedentary lifestyle. Udit and Vineet are not alone. Dr Jhingan says he came across many diabetes patients who faced opposition to marriage since he set up the DDRC in 1985. Continue reading >>

Corruption And Culture Increase Diabetes Deaths In India

Corruption And Culture Increase Diabetes Deaths In India

Tap here to turn on desktop notifications to get the news sent straight to you. 10/09/2014 10:47 am ETUpdatedDec 06, 2017 Corruption and Culture Increase Diabetes Deaths in India When I returned from Bangalore earlier this year, having worked with health professionals at a diabetes clinic for the poor, I expected to write about how access to insulin is a human right. I saw the poverty and the need. But with the recent passing of Reghunath Varma , a young man from India who could afford insulin and died for lack of it, I realized it is not just access to medicine and supplies that needs to be fixed in impoverished countries. It is basic education -- and and at times demystifying cultural superstition. In India, where most people with Type 1 diabetes die because they can't afford insulin, a young man died because he chose not to take his. Reghunath Varma was 29. He was told by an acupuncturist to stop taking his insulin -- the medicine that keeps people with Type 1 diabetes alive -- because the acupuncturist's treatment would cure him. In India many revere doctors as gods. During my three weeks in Bangalore at the Jnana Sanjeevini Medical Center, one evening a 23-year-old woman arrived. She had Type 1 diabetes since the age of 5 and already had numerous diabetes complications, including the inability to straighten her fingers. She told the clinic's founder, Dr. S Srikanta, that under the care of her previous doctor, for almost 20 years, she'd been sent to a lab once a month to have her blood sugar checked. Why did he not tell her to get a home glucose meter where she could check her blood sugar multiple times a day, as is the recommendation for Type 1 diabetes? Because her doctor received a kickback from the lab every month. At the Jnana Sanjeevini clinic patients with T Continue reading >>
