As the former CEO/Founder/Publisher of i.d.e.a.l. Magazine, i.d.e.a.l. Magazine was a magazine for Urban Young People with Disabilities. During the11 year operation of i.d.e.a.l. Magazine had many success andaccomplishments but it wasnt enough to maintain the operation of the magazine. i.d.e.a.l. Magazine quietly closes its operation in 2015. Over the course of a year, I took this time to reflect and to discover my next career path. After much praying and self-reflection, I decided to become a Motivational Speaker on Sexuality VS Disability a topic that doesnt get much conversation in the disability community as well as in society. Through this performance/presentation I will discuss the conversation that most of society doesnt want to discuss. Sex in the disability community is seen as taboo and I will eliminate the stigmas and stereotypes that are placed on people with disabilities. Worldguy's Walk For Diabetes Awareness -: 2017

Worldguy's Walk For Diabetes Awareness -: 2017

Few destinations I have journeyed toward have felt so satisfying as the stroll from the mailbox at the end of the driveway in Louisville to Hopkinsville where, at the total eclipse of the sun four weeks later, beside my big sister, we watched the world turn to darkness beneath clear skies in the afternoon. We laughed and cried in awe under the amazing sight hand-in-hand, free of a lifetimes' ills, for two minutes and forty seconds. Afterwards, while the moon slowly relinquished its shadow, we enjoyed watching children frolic with the world in an open space perfect for play. Making the memories we will have all the sweeter in years to come, of the day when we stood before the world, together for a moment. The children truly will inherit the Earth. Once in lifetime, they say, you may be able to travel to the path of a solar eclipse. When I am older I'd like to remember getting there. I'm walking to the path where the moon covers the the sun... for two minutes. The first people to stop and talk with me after I rolled past the mailbox at the end of the driveway were two sheriffs who seemed inordinarily happy that I was walking for diabetes awareness; spreading my little message to take care of yourself, walk to help control-prevent-manage it. One quickly got out asking to have our picture taken by his partner. He just as quickly stiffened and labored to the little ditch with running water, a foot or so across. As he sidestepped down the berm he told me he had just returned to duty from bypass surgery on both legs from his diabetes. Apparently I was a reminder he took to heart (perhaps only for two minutes) enough to move the parts he wanted to keep. He shook my hand and called me an angel...Leaning more comfortably with "idiot", I was encouraged that this journey will have Continue reading >>

El Paso Diabetes El Paso Diabetes

El Paso Diabetes El Paso Diabetes

TAKING STEPS TOWARD AN EL PASO FREE OF DIABETES The El Paso Diabetes Association (EPDA) opened its doors in Mrs. Estelle Goldmans garage in El Paso, Texas, in November 1968 as the South chapter of the American Diabetes Association, to offer a support group for families with children with type 1 diabetes. This was the only diabetes service available in El Paso at that time. Four years later, the EPDA chose to expand programs and to disaffiliate, making it one of a handful of independent diabetes associations in the country. Programs grew to diabetes management, cooking sessions, support groups, and the Annual Blossoms and Blooms. In the 1990s, the EPDA opted to move towards a public health direction as the rates of type 2 diabetes escalated in our community and along the border region. Today, the EPDA is an accredited, local and independent diabetes organization with many programs and services. The EPDA continues without any affiliations to state or national diabetes organizations, to ensure that the needs of our local community are understood and met. In the last few years, unnecessary diabetes emergencies have consistently cost our community an excess of 100 million dollars. By increasing education and awareness, the EPDAs hope is to reduce these financial costs as well as decrease the financial and emotional burdens of unmanaged diabetes for residents of El Paso. To improve the quality of life of individuals and their families with and at risk of developing diabetes within the El Paso Region. We believe that through educational programming, awareness and advocacy, we can prevent, manage and detection of diabetes before it's too late. Continue reading >>
