Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital's diabetes self-management education program has been awarded continued Recognition from the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The program has been recognized since December 2006. The ADA Education Recognition effort, which commenced in the fall of 1986, is a voluntary process that assures approved education programs have met the National Standards for Diabetes Self-management Programs. When Hurricane Harvey Arrived, They Kept The Diabetes Community Afloat
When Hurricane Harvey Arrived, They Kept the Diabetes Community Afloat Jim Hirschtells the story of how Type 1 Team Texas emerged to meet the diabetes community's needs in the face of the hurricane The rain began on Saturday. It continued on Sunday, then on Monday, and still more rain fell on Tuesday. It was like standing in a shower, thats how hard it was raining, said Anne Imber, of Cypress, Texas, about 25 miles northwest of downtown Houston. And it did that for four days. On Monday night, August 28, with the flood waters rising in her neighborhood, with the bayous spilling over across the city, and with the full blast of Hurricane Harvey beginning to swamp southeast Texas, Imber received a group text shes not even certain who sent it with a simple message: We need to do something. Imber, 53, has been heavily involved in the diabetes community since her son, Tristan, was diagnosed with type 1 in 2002. She founded two different advocacy organizations that center on non-medical issues for teenagers. She runs the web sites, sponsors programs her expertise is in setting up 504 plans (which spell out the legal rights for any student with a disability) and she speaks at JDRF events, camps for diabetic children, and support groups. She even gives lectures at Texas Childrens Hospital about teens with diabetes. Her basic point: If you have diabetes, you have to be prepared, whether youre playing sports, traveling, driving, or going to college. She can now add one more to her list: Surviving 50 inches of rain. Hurricane Harvey, and the subsequent floods, has killed at least 71 people while devastating 300 miles of the Texas coast and parts of Louisiana. More than a million people have been displaced, and the financial cost to rebuild is expected to exceed $100 billion. The pa Continue reading >>

Diabetes Relief Llc Plans Expansion Outside Houston - Houston Business Journal
Houston-based Diabetes Relief LLC plans to open at least 50 locations nationwide for its metabolic-geared treatment for diabetes. The company plans to connect with franchise partners in major Texas cities, as well as Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, California, Washington and Michigan, Hunter Carr , an owner and manager, told the Houston Business Journal. The business works around a consumer-facing service that incorporates FDA-approved equipment and treatment for diabetes. The treatments help improve patients' metabolism, which can increase the activity of the pancreas and liver, helping the body better regulate its blood sugar. There are also added benefits such as weight loss, Carr said, which is fairly common with an increased metabolism. Each diagnostic diabetes treatment center is designed with a number of lounge chairs for patients. Patients come for three-hour periods every week. As their metabolism gets better, they expand the time between treatments, Carr said. Most major insurance companies pay for the treatment, he added. Typically, each center will employ about 12 people. The company isn't using any specific real estate broker in the markets as it expands, but is working with doctors offices, hospitals and other medical facilities to find the best locations for its new locations. It's also building a new center off Highway 6 that will about 6,000 square feet, he said. Medical Informatics Corp., another Houston-based company that focuses on diabetes, saw recent success at South by Southwest in Austin. Continue reading >>

It's a chronic condition that often comes with the fear of long-term, disabling complications.A breakthrough procedure for diabetes is now available in Houston at Diabetes Relief Center, and patients say it's putting a halt to their serious symptoms. This is huge, since diabetes is one of the most difficult conditions to control. It requires a lot of discipline, many finger-sticks everyday, medications to keep blood sugars from spiking up and crashing down, and often turning down favorite foods. Hunter Carr was dealing with all of that, until he found a unique treatment. "I came to this infusion treatment, and it corrected my insulin resistance, and made it start working! It allowed me to reduce my insulin intake by 70%," explains Carr, the owner of Diabetes Relief Center. After suffering from diabetes for 25 years, Carr says he could no longer control his blood sugar, no matter how much insulin he took. Because the treatment made a believer out of him, he purchased the Center, with hopes of helping as many diabetics as possible. We met another patient at Diabetes Relief Center who lives in Colorado.Even though it's a lot of traveling back and forth, Alan Hepford says it's worth it, because he claims the treatment has given him his life back. "It has by far been the best investment! I have decreased my medications, just one after another, and my neuropathy is gone," exclaims Hepford. Plus he says he has high energy that he hasn't felt in years. After the initial stick of the IV, patients just rest during the three-hour infusion.Patients often begin with once a week treatments, then decrease it to Continue reading >>

These components and physical locations are not themselves legal entities, but are part of the organization health care provider (which is a legal entity). A covered organization provider may decide that its subparts (if it has any) should have their own NPI numbers.
