The Diabetes Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to improving the care and qualtiy of life for people living day-to-day with diabetes. Our current programming falls into three catagories: 1) Medical Assistance - providing short term medications and diabetes supplies to low income, un-insured or under insured diabetics until a more permanent program can be put into place. 2)Public Education - Because self-management is so critical to successfully living with diabetes, knowledge about the disease as well as problem solving and coping skills is an absolute necessity. The DFI offers free seminars taught by health care professionals whou present up-to-date information about diet, nutrition, exercise, complication, prevention and other topics essential to living a healthier life with diabetes. 3) Camp Sponsorships - The DFI provides the means for children, who might otherwise not be able to afford it, to attend a co-en diabetes camp. This affords the opportunity for children to live and play among peers who share their disease and enjoy and active and safe camping experience regardless of their medical conditon. "The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey is proud to continue our tradition of supporting community-based organizations that are working to improve public health and enhance the quality of life in the Garden State," said Robert A. Marino, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey Chairman & CEO and Foundation Board Chairman. Since its inception in 2004, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey has awarded 1,001 grants totaling nearly $36 million to support New Jersey non-profit organizations. Bridging this gap and allowing patients to be compliant with their medications helps them avoid many of the complications associated with diabetes. DFI is the only agency in New Jersey providing short-term medical assistance to diabetics in need. PATIENT SUPPORT SERVICES: DFI staff, student interns, and trained volunteers personally connect with patients and family members to provide information, resources, and reassurance.
