I thought this was a great idea. I have printed it out and am working on it now. That would be fun, I've sent my request for the puzzle's and I will copy the one you have Thanks for passing this along Gabby. I'm a dedicated cruciverbalist and do the 3 puzzles in the Tampa Bay Times every morningwhat fun! I, too, was stumped by 1 down and also by 7 across because I had the wrong answer for 6 down (I wrote in Metformins). There aren't enough intersections of clues to help you eliminate wrong answers. But, it's not easy trying to build a crossword puzzleI've tried! The solution is already on the Diabetes Health website. Ok, I was not the only one lost on that...Yeah, I know the answers are there. I am trying to hold out and make it work. I've had a bad experience with these puzzles. They kinda patronize me unfortunately. But thanx anyway Gabby. I am going to have to work on that one. Every thing I come up with so far has 21 letters instead of 20 and they don't fit with 5 across. If you figure it out give us a hint. i have a crossword on my nook color.i rarely go into it,on account i haven't much interest in them.and because im normally doing something else with my nook.like makeing out my grocery shopping list.but yet they are fun and enjoyable to work I love jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Worried About Type 2 Diabetes? Walk After Every Meal

Worried About Type 2 Diabetes? Walk After Every Meal

If you're at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, then take a 15-minute walk after every meal. A study, out today, shows that moderately-paced walks after meals work as well at regulating overall blood sugar in adults with pre-diabetes as a 45-minute walk once a day. And there's an added benefit of walking after every meal, especially dinner: It helps lower post-meal blood sugar for three hours or more, the research found. Walking after a meal "really blunts the rise in blood sugar," says the study's lead author Loretta DiPietro, professor and chair of the department of exercise science at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. "You eat a meal. You wait a half-hour and then you go for a 15-minute walk, and it has proven effective in controlling blood sugar levels, but you have to do it every day after every meal. This amount of walking is not a prescription for weight loss or cardiovascular fitness — it's a prescription for controlling blood sugar," she says. The Italians call the walk after dinner a passeggiata and know it aids in digestion, DiPietro says. "Now we know it also helps the clearance of blood sugar." Currently, almost 26 million children and adults (8.3% of the population) in the USA have diabetes, and about 79 million Americans have pre-diabetes. In diabetes, the body does not make enough of the hormone insulin, or it doesn't use it properly. Insulin helps glucose (sugar) get into cells, where it is used for energy. If there's an insulin problem, sugar builds up in the blood, damaging nerves and blood vessels. DiPietro and colleagues worked with 10 overweight, sedentary volunteers, who were an average age of 71. All had higher than normal blood sugar levels and were considered pre-diabetic, which means they were at Continue reading >>

Furthermore, when Diabetes is controlled, there is much less chance of developing serious complications, which can include: Prevent Obesity or Lose Weight to Help Control Diabetes Theres something called the ENERGY BALANCE FORMULA thats the basic way to keep from getting obese. We at Health Power use a slightly modified formula that means the same thing. Ours is the CALORIE Balance FORMULA. No matter which name you want to use, its what you do that matters. In fact, using the formula can also keep a person from becoming overweight, and thats also important because many people who are overweight end up becoming obese. ENERGY (or Calories) IN = ENERGY (or Calories) OUT. In other words, a person has to get rid of as much energy as he or she takes in. The Health Power CALORIE BALANCE FORMULA is: THE NUMBER OF CALORIES BURNED OFF MUST = THE NUMBER OF CALORIES TAKEN IN In other words, a person has to routinely do enough physical activity daily to burn off the number of calories that he or she takes in daily. Will Type 2 Diabetes Affect My Memory?

Will Type 2 Diabetes Affect My Memory?

Diabetes does cause memory loss. It may not be a progressive process that is clinical Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, but it can happen related to the acute symptoms of diabetes. Interestingly, Alzheimer’s disease has been called “Type 3 Diabetes” or “Alzheimer ’s disease of the Brain” lately. In this article, we will look at how your diabetes affects memory and when and why this happens. To do this, we need to understand the four different types of memory loss. Also, looking at the symptoms and causes of memory loss will be helpful as we seek to learn how our Type 2 Diabetes may affect our memory. To further break it down, we will look at the two types of memory loss that results from Type 2 Diabetes, short and long-term memory loss. Types of memory loss or amnesia There are four different types of memory loss. The two that are most common, and that you may have heard of, are short-term memory loss and long-term memory loss. The other two types of memory loss, sensory memory loss and working memory loss, may not be as well-known. However, they are important to the preservation of human memory, thought and cognitive processes. As with many parts of the human body, memory loss is a complex issue. It involves many different factors, of which Type 2 Diabetes is one. Short-term memory loss The first sign of cognitive decline and one of the first symptoms of memory loss is short-term memory loss. I see this with my mother, when she doesn’t remember my dog’s name, or anything about the story that I just told her related to when I got him, how old he is, and all those details about pets that people may ask. Breast-feeding Tied To Reduced Risk Of Diabetes

Breast-feeding Tied To Reduced Risk Of Diabetes

Well |Breast-Feeding Tied to Reduced Risk of Diabetes Breast-feeding may reduce a womans risk for Type 2 diabetes, a new study reports. Researchers followed 1,238 women, average age 24 at the start, for up to 30 years. Each delivered at least one baby, and none had diabetes before the study began. The scientists collected data on health and lifestyle at interviews and physical examinations conducted seven times over the course of the project. The study is in JAMA Internal Medicine . There were 182 cases of diabetes, and after adjusting for physical activity, smoking and other factors, the researchers found that breast-feeding for up to six months was associated with a reduced risk for diabetes of 25 percent; breast-feeding for six to 12 months was tied to a 48 percent reduced risk; and breast-feeding for 12 months or more with a 47 percent risk reduction. The associations held for obese women and for those who had had gestational diabetes, both strong risk factors for Type 2 diabetes. There are several plausible mechanisms, the researchers say. For example, lactating women have lower circulating glucose, and lactation may help preserve the function of the cells that produce insulin. Weve known for a long time that breast-feeding has major benefits for child health, said the lead author, Erica P. Gunderson, an epidemiologist with Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, Calif. The specific benefits for womens health have been less recognized. A version of this article appears in print on January 23, 2018, on Page D4 of the New York edition with the headline: Pregnancy: Breast-Feeding and Diabetes. Patient Voices: Type 2 Diabetes

Patient Voices: Type 2 Diabetes

Nearly 400 million people around the world have Type 2 diabetes , including about 28 million in the United States. Of those, as many as eight million dont know they have it. Type 2 diabetes can wreak havoc on the entire body, affecting everything from hearing and vision to sexual function, mental health and sleep. It is the leading cause of blindness, amputations and kidney failure, and it can triple the risk for heart attack and stroke. But with vigilant monitoring, a person can keep Type 2 diabetes under control and live well. Five men and women speak about living with diabetes. Do you or does someone you know have Type 2 diabetes? Tell us about how you manage your condition. Larry Brandwein, 56, Brooklyn Larry Brandwein, a former special education teacher, was formally given a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes at the age of 35, but he suspected he had it well before then. Every morning, Mr. Brandwein injects himself with insulin to help his body maintain a healthy level of blood sugar. But routine monitoring is a challenge, and he often copes with drops in blood sugar levels. When that happens, Mr. Brandwein gets dizzy and must immediately have something sweet, like orange juice. Too much orange juice, though, can cause a sudden rise in his blood sugar. Such extreme swings can be very damaging to the body. Five years ago, Mr. Brandwein began to have trouble walking, a result of peripheral neuropathy , a common complication of diabetes that causes pain and numbness in the extremities. This pain, made worse by foot ulcers, forced him to retire from teaching. Mr. Brandwein understands that habits like smoking, overeating and failing to monitor his blood sugar are not good for his health, but he says he lacks the strength to turn them around. Jazmyne Robinson, 15, Ferguson, Continue reading >>
