The Ph Miracle For Diabetes Exposed | Diabetic Connect

A revolutionary diet plan as a miracle response to your type 1 or type 2 diabetes problems sounds too good to be true, and thats usually because it is. Robert O. Young and Shelley Rudford Youngs book The pH Miracle for Diabetes: The Revolutionary Diet Plan for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics claims that its eating plan is so effective that you will be able to sit back and watch your blood sugar levels stabilize, to the point that youll be able to cut back on or even eliminate any medicationincluding insulin. Its a bold claim, and one that deserves some more digging into. If you started seeing a new doctor, you would want to be sure he or she has all the proper credentials, degrees, and medical licenses. So, if you plan on dramatically altering your lifestyle and potentially stopping your treatments based on a book, you would also want to verify the authors credentials. The main author of The pH Miracle for Diabetes is Robert O. Young. While Young claims a PhD in his byline and author bios, he is not a medical doctor. Instead, he holds doctorate degrees in naturopathy and nutrition from the Clayton College of Natural Health, an unaccredited, now defunct Internet correspondence school in Alabama. In addition to having a questionable education, in 2016, Young was convicted on two counts of practicing medicine without a license. Multiple other charges have been brought against him throughout the years, but most of them were dropped. Young has made a career of both operating a treatment ranch he created and selling books, including four different pH Miracle diet plan books. While Shelly Redford Young, the co-author, claims her credentials as a licensed massage therapist and an interest in nutrition, it would appear that most of her contribution to the book is in the recipes loc Continue reading >>

The Alkaline Diet: Balancing Acid And Base

The Alkaline Diet: Balancing Acid And Base

If you thought fashion was subject to trends, you should take a look at diets. A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the raw food diet. This week, I’ll focus on what’s called the “alkaline diet,” which is sometimes called the “alkaline acid diet.” Getting Your “pH-acts” Straight My guess is that most of you took chemistry at some point in your school career. Unless you completely tuned out, you may remember a discussion of acid-base balance, which is measured by something called “pH.” The human body has a particular range of pH that it needs to be at for good health. The pH is simply a measure of acid-base balance in the body. A pH of 0 is very acidic, 7 is neutral, and a 14 is very alkaline. In normal situations, the body likes to be at a pH of 7.35 to 7.45. The stomach, however, which is very acidic (thanks to hydrochloric acid), has a much lower pH of 1.35 to 3.50. In a condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), ketones, which are acids, build up in the blood and urine. If DKA isn’t treated promptly, the condition may be life-threatening. Why an Alkaline Diet? The premise behind the alkaline diet dates back, not surprisingly, to our hunter-gatherer ancestors. Way back then, the diet consisted largely of fresh fruit, roots, vegetables, and tubers. Things apparently went awry when grains, meats, sugars, and dairy foods were introduced, and the diet became more “acidic.” Promoters of the alkaline diet believe that the typical Western diet (which definitely has its flaws) makes the blood more acidic and upsets the acid-base balance in the body. In addition, an acidic diet is believed (by proponents of the alkaline diet) to lead to a loss of potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium from the body. Hence, the alkaline diet should be followed to Continue reading >>

Could An Alkaline Diet Reverse Diabetes?

Could An Alkaline Diet Reverse Diabetes?

Would you like to hear a few mind-blowing statistics about diabetes? These numbers totally floored me when I first read them! Fact 1: $1 in every $5 health care dollars is spent caring for people with diabetes. Fact 2: Across America, 8.1 million people are believed to be living with undiagnosed diabetes. Fact 3: One in four Americans over 65 years of age develops diabetes. With so many people broadly affected by diabetes, it’s helpful to know how we can prevent it from happening to us… or somebody we love. So today, we’re going to explore a totally new frontier of diabetes research: Could an alkaline diet actually reverse diabetes? But First Up… A Bit Of Background About Diabetes You’ve probably heard that there are two types of diabetes. For the purposes of this article, we are referring to Type 2 diabetes only. This is the type that usually develops later in life and can often be managed with lifestyle changes. In Type 2 diabetes, a couple of things in the body may not be working optimally. Firstly, the body may not be making enough of the hormone insulin, which is needed to move glucose (sugar) from the bloodstream and into our cells to provide energy. Alternatively, in Type 2 diabetes the body may still be making enough insulin but this hormone isn’t working properly. We commonly refer to this as ‘insulin resistance’, which can lead to high blood sugar levels and eventually diabetes. What Causes Diabetes? Firstly, researchers acknowledge that there is a genetic component to diabetes. Some people develop diabetes due to their DNA, rather than any issues in their diet and lifestyle. However, food, exercise habits and lifestyle can play a role in diabetes as well. Most of us have heard the mainstream recommendations to be a healthy weight, move your bo Continue reading >>

What Is The Ph Of The Blood In A Diabetic Patient When His Glucose Levels Are Appropriate?

What Is The Ph Of The Blood In A Diabetic Patient When His Glucose Levels Are Appropriate?

Diabetes causes your body's pH levels to become more acidic and develop a condition called ketoacidosis, the American Diabetes Association explains. Your body's pH level refers to the acidity or alkalinity of the fluids in your body. Diabetes impairs your body's ability to properly utilize the glucose in your blood. Instead, your body is forced to convert fat into energy through a process that develops into ketoacidosis. Diagnosing ketoacidosis involves testing blood for the presence of ketones, the University of Maryland Medical Center explains. There are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is congenital, and its symptoms appear as early as childhood, MayoClinic.com explains. Type 1 diabetes is characterized by your body's inability to produce insulin, the hormone needed for cells to metabolize glucose into energy. Type 2 diabetes is essentially defined by acquired insulin resistance that usually manifests in adulthood. Both types of diabetes cause increased thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, hypertension and ketoacidosis. Left untreated, both types of diabetes lead to complications that damage your cardiovascular system, kidneys and nerves due to the accumulated glucose in your blood. Complications due to diabetes such as ketoacidosis are fatal if not treated. Ketones are the acidic byproducts of fat breakdown that accumulate when your body uses fat instead of glucose as a source of fuel, MedlinePlus, a service of the National Institutes of Health, explains. As your ketone levels increase, your body becomes more acidic. Ketones are present in both types of diabetes but are generally more typical of type 1 diabetes. Ketones are also sometimes present in urine. Acetone and acetoacetic acid are examples of ketones. Ketoacidosis does not happen o Continue reading >>

The pH of body fluids is one the most important key factors regulating various cell function such as enzyme activity and protein-protein interaction via modification of its binding affinity. Therefore, to keep cell function normal, the pH of body fluids is maintained constant by various systems. Insulin resistance is one of the most important, serious factors making the body condition worse in diabetes mellitus. I have recently found that the pH of body (interstitial) fluids is lower in diabetes mellitus than that in non-diabetic control, and that the lowered pH is one of the causes producing insulin resistance. In this review article, I introduce importance of body (interstitial) fluid pH in Continue reading >>

Ph Balance And Diabetes

Ph Balance And Diabetes

The most complete and scientific resource on this subject is the book The pH Miracle for Diabetes by Robert Young PhD and his wife Shelley. If you are diabetic and are seeking to control your blood sugar this book is a must read. There is convincing evidence that people with diabetes can benefit by maintaining pH balance in their bodies. The connection between diabetes and pH balance can clearly be seen in the kidneys, a bodily system that is known to be weakened by both diabetes and an acidic pH balance. By maintaining the proper pH balance in your body, your kidneys and your diabetes will likely improve, too. Your body is in a constant battle to maintain a slightly alkaline, or basic, pH balance. Many of the foods you eat may upset that balance by leaving an acidic residue in your system. To bring your body back into pH balance, your kidneys are constantly working to remove acidic residues from bodily fluids and maintain the alkaline pH balance to your body. In a person with diabetes, the kidneys are already working overtime to rid the body of excess sugar in the blood. So its not too difficult to see how the hardworking kidneys can be strained by diabetes and pH balance. You can help your diabetes and your pH balance by eating the right kinds of foods. First, if you have diabetes or you are at risk for diabetes, you should always check with your doctor regarding your diet. As luck would have it, both diabetes and pH balance can be regulated by the same types of foods, namely fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and seeds. People trying to maintain their diabetes and pH balance should also limit their intake of sugar, meats, breads and pastas. Sticking to a healthy diet is a great way to keep your diabetes, pH balance, and overall health in check. Improper pH Balance I Continue reading >>

Acid To Alkaline The Ph Path Tohealth

Acid To Alkaline The Ph Path Tohealth

Dr. Robert O. Young, PhD, DSc, ND, formulator of the New Biology Theory of Health and Dis-ease, states: Excess acidity is a condition that weakens all body systems. How? Excess acidity forces the body to borrow minerals including sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium -from vital organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid and to safely remove it from the body. As a result, the body can suffer severe and prolonged corrosion due to high acidity a condition that may go undetected for years. Over-acidity affects virtually every person in Westernized society because of our dietary and lifestyle choices and ecological exposure resulting in creating our own internal environment where dis-ease can easily manifest, as opposed to a pH-balanced environment which allows for normal body functions necessary for the body to resist dis-ease If we have a healthy body, we will manage to maintain sufficient alkaline mineral reserves to meet emergency demands placed on us by stress and poor diet or lifestyle choices. However when excess acids must be continually neutralized, our alkaline reserves are depleted, leaving the body in a weakened, dis-ease-prone condition. The pancreas is one of our bodys organs charged with the awesome responsiblilty to alkalinize us can you start to see how our serious acidosis has overwhelmed our pancreas ability to operate effectively, that then results in a state called diabetes, a condition which can respond in a natural way toward Health as a result of the proper, needed changes, for all kinds of pre-diabetics and diabetics. Amazingly and unfortunately, many health practitioners still believe that the body can some how miraculously cope on its own and that our body can still naturally balance its pH. Its not true, for most of us are NOT living in Continue reading >>

Ph Balance And Diabetes

Ph Balance And Diabetes

Earlier, I looked at several diseases that might be helped with an alkaline diet . Today, I am adding diabetes to that list. Before I look at how pH balance might help diabetes, I need to clarify some important points about alkaline diets and pH balance. I will explain the importance of measuring food intake the right way. Then I will describe a nutrition study showing a link between correctly measured alkaline foods and diabetes. Both these terms are used widely in books, the Internet, and wider media. They are related in that pH Balance is what we strive to achieve, and alkaline diet is the way to achieve it. pH Balance simply means that the food you eat balances the acid load on your kidneys. It is measured by testing urine: The target pH for urine in healthy individuals is 6.5 to 7 in the morning, rising to 7.5 through the day. Confusion arises when people publish data on food pH values, made worse because they usually omit to explain how pH has been measured. Food pH, however it is measured, does not affect acid load. It is useless, and potentially dangerous, to measure pH values for food or food ash. We know that alkaline diets can be beneficial, but if you use the wrong measurements, you can mistakenly eat too many acid-forming foods or eat too few alkaline-forming foods. The correct food measurements for alkaline diets estimate the acid load on the kidneys. PRAL (Potential Renal Acid Load) is currently the best measurement, though I have also explained other options for defining pH Balance Diet Scores . A Recent nutrition study has discovered a link between pH balance and diabetes. Dietary acid load and risk of type 2 diabetes: the E3N-EPIC cohort study was published last year by Fagherazzi and colleagues. Though this is a statistical study, it does provide evi Continue reading >>

Acid-alkaline Diet And Diabetes - Health Benefits & Health Risks

Acid-alkaline Diet And Diabetes - Health Benefits & Health Risks

Vegetables are a key component of the alkaline diet The acid-alkaline diet, often referred to as the alkaline diet, has its roots in the studies of biologist Claude Bernard who studied the effects of the kidneys in controlling the acidity of fluids in the body. The diet has a number of features that mark it as both a healthy diet and one that allows a certain amount of flexibility. The theory behind the diet is that the foods we eat can have an effect on the pH levels inside our body. That is eating certain foods have a tendency to raise the acidity within the body, and other foods help to make the body more alkaline. It is thought that foods that cause the body to become more acidic raise the risk for long term health conditions including cancer . The natural pH level of the body is between 7.35 to 7.45, which is slightly alkaline. The body maintains its pH level through a number of mechanisms which include the involvement of the kidneys and the respiratory system . The aim of the alkaline diet is to prevent the body going into a more acidic state than it needs to be, and therefore prevents the body having to take the same amount of corrective action to restore the bodys natural pH level. There is some debate as to whether the theory completely stands up, but the diet certainly has a number of features that make it a healthy diet to follow. What foods can I eat on the alkaline diet? Foods that are viewed as preferable on an alkaline diet include: Is the diet suitable for people with diabetes? The alkaline diet has a strong focus on vegetables and the limitation of grains is not dissimilar to the restrictions of low carb diets . The grains that can be included have a relatively low glycaemic load compared with other grains. Because up to 30% of food intake can be acidi Continue reading >>

Diabetes And Feminine Health: What Women Need To Know

Diabetes And Feminine Health: What Women Need To Know

Anyone who has experienced a yeast infection knows how unpleasant the condition can be. Abnormal vaginal discharge, itching and burning, painful intercourse and urination, and redness and swelling — any of these common symptoms can put a dent in a woman’s sex life or simply impact her daily comfort level. For women with type 2 diabetes, combating this issue and maintaining feminine health overall can be of particular concern, especially if their blood sugar is poorly controlled. A Greater Risk of Yeast Infections “Control of blood sugars is important for the whole body,” says Mache Seibel, MD, a gynecologist and obstetrician at Harvard Medical School in Boston. “But an area that isn’t much talked about is how elevated blood sugars seep into vaginal tissues and set up an environment that’s more favorable for yeast infections.” Vaginal tissue contains a balance of microorganisms, like yeast and bacteria, Dr. Seibel explains, but excess sugar in the blood can fuel the growth of yeast, potentially leading to an infection. “Think about baking bread and how yeast thrives much better when you add sugar,” says Susan Renda, CDE, doctor of nursing practice and assistant professor in the department of community–public health at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore. “I tell patients, ‘You have a nice little balance in your body, but when you throw a cake and cookie party, all the yeast comes to the party and just starts to go nuts.’” Frequent urination, which can occur when glucose levels are high and the body works to rid itself of excess sugar, can add to the problem by bringing additional sugar found in the urine to the vaginal area. Certain diabetes drugs, such as canagliflozin (Invokana, Invokamet, or Invokamet XR), an SGLT-2 in Continue reading >>

Diabetes – Acid Conditions And Treatment With Sodium Bicarbonate

Diabetes – Acid Conditions And Treatment With Sodium Bicarbonate

A highly acidic pH level (created by all the above) puts the pancreas, liver, and all the body’s organs at risk. Because of the important role played by the liver in removing acid waste from the body, liver function is particularly at risk when acids accumulate. When acidity prevents the liver and pancreas from regulating blood sugar, the risk of diabetes will increase. We already know that sodium bicarbonate dramatically slows the progress of chronic kidney disease but few have followed the logical conclusion that it would also be a front line defense against diabetes. From prevention to treatment and to part of a cure, common Baking Soda is an essential tool in working with diabetic and metabolic syndromes. Obviously it does not take the place of an alkaline diet and water but bicarbonate is a front line medicine that doctors and patients can employ orally and transdermally in baths. Sodium bicarbonate injections are already indicated in the treatment of metabolic acidosis, which may occur in severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, and circulatory insufficiency due to shock or severe dehydration, extracorporeal circulation of blood, cardiac arrest and severe primary lactic acidosis. But sodium bicarbonate can be used safely at home orally and transdermally (and should always be used with magnesium chloride for greatest effect) in all stages of diabetes. Low grade chronic metabolic acidosis exists normally in humans eating ordinary diets, and that the degree of acidosis increases with age. – Dr Lynda Frassetto According to Dr Lynda Frassetto, an acid – alkaline researcher from the University of California, “We have been forced to turn an evolutionary corner”. Our bodies are so overwhelmed with cellular acid-wastethat “We simply do not handle acid waste Continue reading >>

How Your Diet's Acidity Is Linked To Diabetes

Diets aimed at reducing acidity are becoming increasingly popular, with celebs like Victoria Beckham touting their benefits; and now a brand-new study lends some clout. After tracking over 65,000 women for 14 years, French scientists found that an acidic diet was tied to a 56% greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared with one that was more alkaline. What does that mean? In a nutshell, the foods you eat are metabolized into compounds that either promote acidity, or form alkaline substances, which counter acidity. Animal proteins are particularly acid-forming, while vegetables and fruits are generally alkalizing. In the study, researchers found that a high acid load can interfere with proper insulin function, thus the diabetes connection. This study is intriguing, and in line with dozens of others that demonstrate the merits of eating more plant-based meals, from weight loss and beauty benefits to a better sex life! To reap the rewards--even if youâre not ready to go vegetarian full time--try out these five easy and delicious ways to replace animal-based foods with more (alkalizing) plants: Swap minced mushrooms for ground meat This combo works perfectly in numerous dishes, including stuffed peppers, chili, and tacos.
