Why Is There A Warning About Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure Or Diabetes?

Contac® Cold + Flu advises patients suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure and/or diabetes to consult with their doctor before using Contac. Decongestants in cold medicines decrease the size of enlarged blood vessels in nasal passages, but they can also affect blood vessels in the rest of your body and raise blood pressure. For most people, this increase isn’t significant. However, some people (especially those who already have high blood pressure) can have exaggerated responses to decongestants, contributing to dangerously high blood pressures. As stated on the label, check with your doctor before using Contac Cold + Flu if you have liver disease, heart disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, glaucoma, high blood pressure, trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland (if male), or a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis. This is a specific question for a certified MD, my father has type 2 and he has never made any decisions on medications without calling his local pharmacy/pharmacist or doctor first... I couldn't really tell you, not familiar with med's you are on and interactions... call a 24 hour pharmacy first and ask the man/woman who's going to know with certainty... licensed pro, very important when you take into the consideration of your conditions... please get back with us... Sorry, things are so much more complicated when you are dealing with diabetes. Even without that consideration, cough and cold meds are broken down by which specific symptoms you are experiencing. I agree, asking your doctor or pharmacist, who is familiar with what meds you are on is your best way to find out. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

It is true that I am not a physician but just happen to have type 2 Diabetes and I do know that for a middle age woman with this condition Robitussin DM makes a sugar free cough medication, I would ask her pharmacist/or/doctor since you mentioned she has other medical conditions just to be sure that this will be fine with him. I hope this is valuable information but please be sure this is acceptable with the doctor.
