Labcorps Vs. Quest - Testosterone Labs
I am going to get some bloodwork done tomorrow morning to follow up with some problems I've posted about for a number of months now - namely low testosterone , low free testosterone, low LH, low FSH, low t3 , high RT3.. It's been 6 months out of the gym and I'm feeling better but I still have no libido and I can't really get that great of erections. Problem is, my insurance doesn't cover quest diagnositics labs but they do cover Labcorp. I've been using labcorp all of this time and I wanted to confirm I was getting the correct tests done in terms of testosterone. I've traditionally had the 140103 (Testosterone, Free (Direct), Serum With Total Testosterone) done but do I need the Free and Weakly Bound test too? 143255 Testosterone, Free and Weakly Bound 081786 Testosterone (Free), Serum (Equilibrium Ultrafiltration) With Total Testosterone 144980 Testosterone, Free (Direct), Serum 140103 Testosterone, Free (Direct), Serum With Total Testosterone I am also getting in addition to the 140103 testosterone test: Will this provide a pretty decent picture of what's up with my low T? I've had a pituitary MRI,.. no problems. ACTH stimulation normal... Study: A1c Now Test Is Crap And So Are Many Doctor Office A1c Tests
A study published in the January issue of the journal, Clinical Chemistry put eight brands of A1c test kits, including the A1c Now test sold in pharmacies and online, through rigorous testing. The other kits were the ones marketed to doctors for use in their offices. First published November 19, 2009; 10.1373/clinchem.2009.130641 The study concluded only two of the eight kits produced clinically valid results. What is most telling, though, is that the study reports: Because of disappointing EP-10 results, 2 of the 8 manufacturers decided not to continue the evaluation. Their test kits were removed from the study after they completed only one of three CLSI protocols that were planned. CLSI stands for "Clinical and Lab Standards Institute." Since four of the six kits that remained in the study ended up with unacceptable results, but must have had good enough results after the first protocol to encourage their manufacturers to keep them in the study, one can only conclude that the kits removed from the study did abysmally. For us, any testing requires a physician order as a first step. Which usually is as simple as asking the physician (via email even) to provide said order. Anybody know how to book only a A1C blood test? You can ask the endo to write it out for you on the lab form, but the home tests are reasonably accurate, very easy, and are only about $30-$40 for 2 tests. It takes only 5 minutes. I do those all the time, and they are close to the lab results. Walmart and CVS sell them, or you can get them on Amazon. This test is for home use monitoring of glycemic control in patients with diabetes. What does your A1C number tell you? A1C is an indication of your average blood glucose level over the past 2-3 month ... For us, any testing requires a physician order as a first step. By law, these classes of test are not controlled. It is true that some companies (by internal policy) refuse test orders from the public and you wont get insurance reimbursement for a test not ordered by a physician. For us, any testing which we want to be covered by our insurance policy requires a physician order as a first step. I want to tell you a secret. You dont have to pay the full retail price for hormone lab tests. Thats right. If your physician has given you a lab order for a panel of tests for your annual check-up or hormone testing, there are ways to reduce the cost by at least half, often times more. Heres how. I recently called Lab Corp , a national chain with 1500 patient service centers throughout the U.S., to find out the cost of seven hormone tests. The price tag, with my insurance discount, was to be more than $1400. !#!#! However, I was told that I could take advantage of their LabAccess Partnership (LAP) program, a menu of routine clinical tests that are available to self-pay patients at discounted prices. Patients who are uninsured, or whose health care benefits exclude coverage for clinical lab tests, or who have high deductibles and anticipate having to pay the net cost out-of-pocket anyway can take advantage of this program. To give you an example of the cost savings, a test to measure Estradiol dropped from $183 to just $65. But I discovered that using a direct-to-consumer lab service brought this cost down even further. These online companies provide low cost lab testing by using established patient service centers in 2,000 communities around the country. In fact, the one I used, mymedlab.com, directed me to the Lab Corp facility near my home the same location where I might have spent $1400 for the same tests had I not discovered these services. Even in these difficult times when almost all of us are learning how to become frugal again, money isn’t everything. Especially when it comes to our health. For those of us who have diabetes the A1C test is the best measure that we have of the state of our health. The A1C is the only commonly available check that we have of our average blood glucose level for the past two or three months. Those of us who are fortunate enough to have health insurance usually go to the lab at our doctor’s office or local hospital for their A1C. I know that’s what I was doing several times a year ever since my diabetes diagnosis in 1994. My health insurance provides up to two A1C tests annually for a modest $15 co-pay each time for my visit to my primary care physician. But until now I didn’t take into account how much time getting an A1C test at the lab took out of my busy schedule. And most importantly, I didn’t realize that the lab’s results may not be right. Now, for a few dollars more than even people who have health insurance have to pay for an A1C test we have a much better alternative.
