Is Miracle Whip Allowed? - Low Carb Friends

Is Miracle Whip Allowed? - Low Carb Friends

I was wondering if Miracle Whip mayo was allowed on the low carb diet? No. Itis loaded with sugar. I know that you probably love the taste, or you wouldn't be asking... I use Hellman's Mayo (only the full fat version will do!). To get that flavor, to 1/2 cup of may, add a teaspoon of white vinegar, and half a packet of Splenda . Voila! Proud member of the SHRINKING VIOLETS At the Canada Challenge thread every day! We have miracle whip in the house- but I haven't touched it since I started atkins. I also use Hellman's real mayo and honestly even though I thought it was going to be gross since I have eaten Miracle Whip ALLLLLLLLLL my life- it tastes just fine! I read on the bottle (after someone asked this in the other forum yesterday or so) and it also has starch and some other stuff added. Big no no.... I'd have to say no on Miracle Whip for that and the sugar added. Sorry. ~Shelley~ AKA "2BeThinAgain" ~~5'2 39yrs-SAHM of 3 Started atkins '72: 2/26/03 & restarted 1/5/09 189.6/120 ~~Goal reached 8/16/03!! & 97+ inches lost!! ~~Oct. 2003- down to 109.6lbs!!! I thought Miracle Whip was alright. I just bought some and it has two grams of carbs..and yea both carbs are sugar..but I used the 1 tablespoon that equals a serving. I am a maintenance program so do you think it will hurt me? I don't know if it wil "hurt" you - but I would personally avoid anything that has sugar in it. Proud member of the SHRINKING VIOLETS At the Canada Challenge thread every day! Well I just realized I have been screwing up this entire time of maintenance. I dont know how i lost two lbs..must be all the exercise. I just bought mayo last night and made tuna fish today. Then I found out that the packets of sweet n low are suppose to be counted Continue reading >>

Top 30 So-called Healthy Foods To Avoid!

AuthorSidebar:Many of our clients tell us that they are eating "healthy", but they are shocked to discover that many of the foods that they're eating are actually not healthy foods at all! Excluding genetic-related diseases, the majority of health-related issues are associated with nutritional deficiencies due to eating so-called "healthy" foods, such as cereal, milk, wheat bread, fruit juice, granola bars, diet foods, salmon, canola oil, 7-grain bread, multi-grain bread, yogurt, etc. [Ref: Chapters 3, 5-7 of the Death to Diabetes book ] Consequently, the primary reason why people suffer unnecessarily with disease in this country (as well as in other countries) is due to the lack of knowledge about proper nutrition and disease, and our misunderstanding of prescription medications. [Ref: Chapter 7] There are quite a few health-related scams that have convinced us that many of these so-called healthy foods will help to either improve our health or prevent us from developing a disease such as diabetes. Unfortunately, many of these foods have been marketed to us and our children as healthy foods for years! -- thanks to television, the newspapers, health magazines, radio, and other media. However, many of these foods may cause weight gain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, allergies, autoimmune diseases, bloating, chronic fatigue, candida, depression, diabetes, headaches, indigestion, insomnia, leaky gut, skin rashes, thyroid issues, and many other health problems! In addition, so-called experts such as doctors, dietitians, nutritionists, diabetes educators, and other healthcare professionals promote many of these foods as healthy. Why? Because that's were they were told! But it turns out that many of these foods are actually "dead" foods that fuel diseases such as Type Continue reading >>

It's not necessarily allowed, but you do what you do. For instance a lot of people drink regular coffee and it's not "allowed" either. If you can skip it, do. It might cause you to want more. One of the ideas of induction is to get as much crap out of your system as possible. But if you can't eat tuna without it, I'd say eat it. It's definitely a mayo/miracle world. Wow, isn't that the truth!. I was a die hard miracle whip fan until LCing. I hated mayonaise. At the beginning I used MW but sparingly, and always counted the carbs. Funny thing is, if you actually try mayo, it isn't that bad. There are some things where mayo is much better. Chicken salad only tastes right with mayo. Tuna salad only tastes right with MW. Mayo tastes better for the recipes where cooking or baking is required, since it doesn't have that overpowering taste. (my opinions only )The point is, I've switched from MW to mayo as the creamy spread of choice. Mayo, thinned with olice oil and punched up with assorted spices makes a wonderfully creamy dip or salad dressing. Funny thing about LCing. We get so many opportunities to try new foods and new combinations that we would never have tried. That old saying "Try it. Y Continue reading >>

Extra virgin olive oil for vegetable oil and butter The benefits of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) are vast. According to the FDA, two tablespoons of olive oil per day may reduce the risk of heart disease. While oils are high in fat, olive oil contains unsaturated fats, or healthy fats. Despite its name, vegetable oil is not healthy: it contains high amounts of polyunsaturated fats and can cause inflammation and clogged arteries. Butter should used in moderation because it contains high amounts of cholesterol, which may lead to heart disease. Instead of baking with vegetable oil, use an equal amount of EVOO. When sauting vegetables, leave out the butter and use a tablespoon of EVOO and some fresh herbs or spices. You can also make your own flavored olive oils with herbs like rosemary and basil. 3. How Much Sodium Is In Miracle Whip?

How Much Sodium Is In Miracle Whip?

Miracle Whip is similar in texture and appearance to mayonnaise, but it has a tangier and more distinct flavor. It's often used interchangeably with mayonnaise on sandwiches and in recipes such as pasta salad. It isn't very nutritious, though. It contains a good amount of sodium for a tiny serving, but it also doesn't have much in the way of vitamins or minerals. A serving of Miracle Whip, which is equal to about 1 tablespoon, contains 105 milligrams of sodium. That's about 5 percent of the daily upper limit of 2,300 milligrams recommended for good health. If you have heart disease, are over age 50 or if your doctor has suggested that you follow a low-sodium diet, those 105 milligrams are 7 percent of your daily limit of 1,500 milligrams. Most people consume more salt than the body really needs for proper nerve transmission and normal muscle function. When you take in too much sodium on a regular basis, your kidneys can't keep up and it starts to build up in your body, which causes high blood pressure. Chronic high blood pressure increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. Processed foods, such as Miracle Whip, are among the top sources of sodium in the average diet, and if you eat large amounts of them you're probably taking in more sodium than you should. In addition to the sodium, Miracle Whip contains a lot of fat for such a small amount of food. One tablespoon of Miracle Whip has 3.5 grams of fat, of which 0.5 grams is saturated. Saturated fat can increase your blood cholesterol levels, and that can contribute to heart problems and Type 2 diabetes. There's also 1 gram of sugar in each tablespoon of Miracle Whip. The condiment doesn't supply any essential vitamins or minerals, such as vitamin C, iron or calcium, either. The occasional smear of Miracle Whip on Continue reading >>

The Great Miracle Whip Debate: Divine Or Disgusting?

The Great Miracle Whip Debate: Divine Or Disgusting?

11/01/2011 07:47 pm ETUpdatedDec 06, 2017 The Great Miracle Whip Debate: Divine Or Disgusting? When you think condiments, chances are you don't think controversy. Ketchup, mayo, mustard: unlike hot button political issues, sandwich spreads don't really have a reputation for being divisive, although there's one colossal exception: Miracle Whip. In 2009, Kraft (Miracle Whip's parent company) launched an ad campaign that set out to make the goopy white condiment appear cool, even counterculture. If you managed to miss this shining moment in America's cultural history, you can only fully grasp it by watching one of the commercials. (Warning: hipsters dancing on roofs.) But what exactly IS Miracle Whip? And why does it elicit such passionate opinions? In 1933, Miracle Whip debuted at the Chicago World's Fair with the tagline, "Salad Miracles with Miracle Whip Salad Dressing." That's right, Miracle Whip broke out onto the American food scene as a spoonable salad dressing. And since that fateful day, people have been debating its merits. Some love its "tangy" flavor, others profess to hate its "cloying" taste. (Miracle Whip contains sugar -- and, until very recently, high fructose corn syrup.) Often, the debate is framed as a showdown between Miracle Whip and mayonnaise. After all, both condiments are used on sandwiches and in potato and macaroni salads. But the Miracle Whip brand itself is pretty adamant that it is its own entity, darn it. According to its website and (yes) Facebook page, "Miracle Whip is sorta-kinda-not-really-like-mayo, but multiplied by awesomeness. You see, we've got this bold, tangy flavor that is unlike anything you've ever tasted. It's known for kicking sandwiches and salads up a notch. We're not for everyone. Are you Miracle Whip?" Did you hear that? Continue reading >>

Can People With Diabetes Eat Miracle Whip?

Can People With Diabetes Eat Miracle Whip?

Can people with diabetes eat miracle whip? I'm making a salad and I'm trying to make it diabetic friendly. Update: It has 1 gram of sugar per tablespoon. Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Also I was wondering what else you planned to put in your 'diabetes-friendly' salad. Anything with pasta, rice, potatoes, bread will spike blood sugar. To me, a diabetes-friendly salad would have non-starchy vegetables and flavourful deli meats/cheese/olives. Fats do not raise blood sugar so I would have with it a nice home-made dressing made with good olive oil. Source(s): Secret To Destroy Diabetes : No. Mayonnaise contains trace carbohydrate/sugar per serving, so much so that mayonnaise lists its carbohydrate as 0 grams per serving. Miracle Whip has 2 grams of carbohydrate/1 sugar per 1 tablespoon! The only reason anyone might eat Miracle Whip over real mayonnaise, other than taste preference (blech!), is the fat content, but that's completely ridiculous. People may have reasons other than diabetes to limit fat, and I'm not going to debate those here, but fat is not what's going to raise blood sugar in a diabetic. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, will. Miracle Whip doesn't have so many carbohydrates that 1 or 2 tablespoons will have a significant impact, but I can't say in good conscience that it's a "good" alternative compared to mayonnaise. It's a worse alternative. If you do use it, you just have to factor the carbohydrates into your daily meal allowances like you would anything else. If you prefer real mayonnaise, use real mayonnaise. Why would you ever think something without sugar in it is diabetic unfriendly!!! Diabetics can eat any thing they dang well wish to, they just have to be judicious in their serving portions. Do not bother trying to make any food "diabe Continue reading >>
