It may be that the boluses are not working because there is a bend in the plastic needle which has slowed the input of insulin without setting off the obstruction alarm. That way I can rule out one cause of insufficient response to insulin. By replacing the needle my sick day plan might still work. If no cause of insulin failing to bring the levels down can be found I contact my doctor or nurse educator ( not tomorrow when the surgery opens or after watching a movie, NOW. The usual regime suggested is for me to give small doses of short acting insulin intramuscularly. Not everyone might be able to do this, depending on their confidence, the state of their tissues etc. In which case A&E pronto is the best option.
