If you want to nominate an app for this list, email us at [email protected] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes impacts 29 million Americans, about 9 percent of the population. Someone with diabetes may experience complications such as kidney problems, blindness, or heart failure, according to the CDC. The good news is that with increased education, people are recognizing symptoms, like going to the bathroom often, having blurry vision, losing weight, experiencing tingling or numbness in lower limbs, and feeling very thirsty, hungry, or tired. Thanks to earlier diagnoses, improved treatment tools, and better self-care, people are living better with diabetes. Part of that care includes eating healthy foods, exercising, taking medicines like insulin, sticking to your treatment plan, and being proactive about colds and other sicknesses. Keeping all the pieces of your care plan straightforward can be a challenge, but several apps have emerged to help you track your day and your health. Iphone Diabetes Apps Reviews: Diabetes Kit Vs. Glucose Buddy

Here are my thoughts after using two diabetes blood glucose management apps on my iPhone 6s called Diabetes Kit and Glucose Buddy. These iPhone diabetes apps reviews are simply my experiences after using them for a few weeks. Do you need a diabetes app at all? I got by for decades with Type 1 diabetes and without any diabetes-related apps at all (consarn it!). The only reason I finally downloaded one recently was that I though it would be nice to see trends and history for my BGs. I use a OneTouch UltraMini that I bought in 2007 (can that be right?? It still works after all this time?) which remembers the most recent 50 numbers, but doesn’t sync with anything and has no export feature. I used to copy my BGs into a cool Excel sheet but that took too much time, and in this world if it takes too much time it isn’t going to last as a regular habit. So, as usual, my needs were very simple: all I needed from a iPhone diabetes app was a way to record my numbers and see trends. In this corner: Diabetes Kit First I downloaded Diabetes Kit. After using this app for several weeks, here are my findings: Diabetes Kit good points Very nice design, with good colors, fonts, and layout. Quick way to input a new BG: two taps on buttons and a keypad is displayed. It defaults to the current time but you can add past BGs by changing the date. You can also add a note for a reading, though I never have. (What would it say? “Two and a half doughnuts, no surprise here” or something I guess.) You get a few graphs to see your BG trends and averages, including a pie chart showing what percentage of your readings have been high, normal, or low (you tell it what you consider these to be). There are also charts for daily average, a day-of-the-week average, and an hour-of-the-day average. Thes Continue reading >>

Mynetdiary Vs. Glucose Buddy

Mynetdiary Vs. Glucose Buddy

We are proud of the diet service we created at MyNetDiary, especially its diabetes functionality. We have worked to build the best tools and program in the world so people can succeed with their health goals, and we are very passionate about creating awesome software. With this in mind, we wanted to put up a comparison against some of the competing diabetes apps on the market and highlight where we think MyNetDiary is truly better. Here we compare MyNetDiary Pro vs. Glucose Buddy Pro – one of the most popular iPhone diabetes apps. One important consideration is that MyNetDiary has worked exclusively and professionally in the area of diet, weight loss, and diabetes since 2005, providing comprehensive online and mobile services and apps, while Azumio Inc (the maker of Glucose Buddy) is a younger company, working in many areas of health and wellness. Most importantly, MyNetDiary keeps working on the diabetes app and keeps improving it following user feedback and the latest technology developments. Glucose Buddy is no longer seems to be updated or maintained, as the last update was in October, 2012. Comparing Features and Benefits MyNetDiary's focus on diet and diabetes enabled us to create very comprehensive, professional, and yet easy to use apps, providing one-stop-solution to diabetes tracking. Glucose Buddy does not even have any built-in food and exercise database, making accurate carb tracking very difficult and time consuming. Glucose Buddy does not provide any support for weight management or weight loss - it has no diet planning tools, no food database, no exercise database. With Glucose Buddy, you cannot get the whole picture of your diabetes and learn about relationships between blood glucose readings and carbs, insulin, medications, time, and exercise. The App Revolution For Diabetics

The App Revolution For Diabetics

As anyone with diabetes knows, the daily grind of managing the disease — from watching carbs and calories to tracking blood sugar and A1C levels — can be tiresome. In an age when there’s an app for just about everything, it seems as if this is a problem just waiting to be solved by technology. This should be easy, right? When I searched my iPhone’s app store for “diabetes,” however, I was stopped cold: More than 1,200 apps came up, not to mention related links to others. This may be a great use of technology, but deciding which apps are best? Not easy for a layperson. “It’s encouraging to see so many apps that attempt to ease the self-care tasks and tracking associated with all types of diabetes,” Kelly Rawlings, editorial director of Diabetes Forecast magazine, told me. “But the sheer number and range of usability make it a tricky product area to navigate for health-care providers and the people who use the apps.” Rawlings is right — and things are likely to get even more complicated. According to the most recent National Diabetes Statistics Report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 29 million Americans have diabetes, and 95 percent of them have Type 2, the form most associated with obesity. To boot, new cases of diagnosed diabetes among people age 20 or older topped 1.7 million; the report also estimates that 86 million Americans older than 20 suffer from prediabetes, most of whom are at a high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Those numbers provide a lot of incentive for app makers to develop new products, and there is scientific support as well. A study published in the journal Clinical Diabetes concludes that “the use of mobile phones leads to improved A1C and self-management in diabetes care.” But with the app store Continue reading >>

Easy to use for tracking glucose and blood pressure. Graphs provide a useful visual aide I am a visual learner. The graph is very helpful for motivating me to stick to my goals. GB is a great tool! It assists with monitoring both my Glucose Level & Blood Pressure Good little app for I bg and some other nice features Easy to use, great interface, works great. Can't ask for much more. On Galaxy S4. LIFESAVER! For a parent with a newly diagnosed 4 year old boy its a great help Best 10 GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) Calculator Apps Best 10 Continuing Medical Education Apps Best 10 Pregnancy & OB (Obstetrics & Gynecology) Apps Best 10 Veterinary (Animal Doctors) Reference Apps Liked the older version better. The upgrade is klunky to use and enter data on an Android. Editing after an entry is near impossible. I would suspect the premium version functions better. Maybe a few updates will correct some of the issues. I have been using this app for many years and even advocated it to my healthcare professionals. An example of how to ruin a good healthcare app experience I loved this app before they changed to the subscription model a few months back. There are so many things you used to be able to do that arent available, even small things like using a custom label instead of before/after a meal. And now in order to share your graphs with your doctor you can only go back two weeks and you have to print it out vs email it. Its a real shame not to be able to afford an app that used to be an asset to my medical care. I would have been able to use this app had there been a one time purchase price, but I cant justify adding another monthly automatic charge just to log my glucose levels. I used to hype this app to everyone I knew with diabetes. Even my doctor was impressed, although Continue reading >>
