Diabetic Ketoacidosis Symptoms

What is diabetic ketoacidosis? Diabetic ketoacidosis, also referred to as simply ketoacidosis or DKA, is a serious and even life-threatening complication of type 1 diabetes. DKA is rare in people with type 2 diabetes. DKA is caused when insulin levels are low and not enough glucose can get into the body's cells. Without glucose for energy, the body starts to burn fat for energy. Ketones are products that are created when the body burns fat. The buildup of ketones causes the blood to become more acidic. The high levels of blood glucose in DKA cause the kidneys to excrete glucose and water, leading to dehydration and imbalances in body electrolyte levels. Diabetic ketoacidosis most commonly develops either due to an interruption in insulin treatment or a severe illness, including the flu. What are the symptoms and signs of diabetic ketoacidosis? The development of DKA is usually a slow process. However, if vomiting develops, the symptoms can progress more rapidly due to the more rapid loss of body fluid. Excessive urination, which occurs because the kidneys try to rid the body of excess glucose, and water is excreted along with the glucose High blood glucose (sugar) levels The presen Continue reading >>

I have been keeping track of my weight every day (almost) for the last four months and I get frustraded when I see that I go up 3 or 4 pounds arround my period time, sometimes 5. I go back down right after.
But I was curious, is it just me or it is "normal"?
Please share with me your experience. That way I can either feel normal or do something to avoid gaining all that weight.
    Thank you,

my weight does not fluctuate during my time of month but I've heard many, many people say they see a gain.
If you know you're going to go up a few pounds and you know they're going to drop right off after then why the frustration? It's just water weight afterall and has absolutely nothing to do with fat loss, which is what we're all after right? People need to be reconditioned - we should be working towards fat loss not necessarily weight loss.

Typically 2-3 pounds - keep in mind that unless you binge on carbs and regain body fat, all the PMS gain is water. Sure, it's annoying, but not something to allow to get you down. A good way to deal is to get exercise every day, such as walking briskly for 20-30 minutes, which helps your circulation and may prevent water weight from hanging out in your body. Also, do not be tempted to restrict fluids - the less you drink, the more your body will hoard what it has.

Introduction Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a dangerous complication of diabetes caused by a lack of insulin in the body. Diabetic ketoacidosis occurs when the body is unable to use blood sugar (glucose) because there isn't enough insulin. Instead, it breaks down fat as an alternative source of fuel. This causes a build-up of a by-product called ketones. Most cases of diabetic ketoacidosis occur in people with type 1 diabetes, although it can als ...

  • How Does Ketoacidosis Happen

This won't make sense unless you understand low-carb diets. Here's how a low-carb diet is supposed to work. A person eats about 30g of carbs per day for a couple days. That's not a lot of carbs. That's like two slices of bread. The body burns through all those carbs. Now that it can't burn carbs, it starts to burn fat. When you burn fat, you lose weight. When the body burns fat, ketones end up in the urine. Low-carb dieters use ketone test strips ...

  • Why Does Diabetes Happen?

What is diabetes? Diabetes is a disease in which the body is unable to properly use and store glucose (a form of sugar). Glucose backs up in the bloodstream — causing one’s blood glucose (sometimes referred to as blood sugar) to rise too high. There are two major types of diabetes. In type 1 (fomerly called juvenile-onset or insulin-dependent) diabetes, the body completely stops producing any insulin, a hormone that enables the body to use gl ...
