Diabetes Blood Glucose Monitor Only £4 In Store @asda (usually Around £10)

samoyed;4669190 Its not a plaything dude, they are available on prescription if you are … How much is a prescription these days? £4 is cheaper than a prescription I'm sure  I see you're replying to the tool but still this shows how much of a deal it is that you can get it cheaper than from the NHS. 4 quid might seem like a really good deal but Blood Glucose monitors only come with a few testing strips. If you want more you have to buy them or get them on prescription. A box of test strips is 15 quid ish depending on the machine.... and a prescription is £7.10 Remember if you're diabetic and you need to test then you can get the Blood Glucose Monitors for free from you doctor and you'll get a prescription for the test strips. Not all diabetics need to test, if you're diabetic but you don't need to test then your doctor or nurse will tell you.... (e.g. if you're diet controlled) Also lots of pharmacies will give you a blood glucose test for free so if you're worried it's worth going down to a local pharmacy to get yourself checked out. trust me! i'm a pharmacist! sometimes people are stubborn and say there is nothing wrong, I dont need to go to the docs..... I just called Boots in Cambridge for Ketone testing strips and was interrogated like a criminal. They wanted to know why I wanted them, and I said I was testing for ketones, and then further questioning, so Isaid I was on a diet. She abruptly said, "Okay, right..I'm sorry, we're not allowed to sell them. Goodbye," and hung up.
What am I missing? I thought they were easily available and didn't know I was trying to purchase some restricted item. I know they are really for diabetics, but didn't want to be dishonest or rather, didn't think I had to be dishonest to purchase them.
Are there restrictions on their sale in the UK? (I hav only been here a few months) Maybe I can do without them, but I was curious to know if I am in ketosis.
Now I feel stupid for calling, and like I called to ask for ganja (marijauana). :(
    Bye for now

Boots refused to sell my boyfriend Ketostix (that's the brand name) when he admitted he wasn't a diabetic, & they refused to give a reason. From what I've heard there aren't official restrictions on them, so I'm assuming Boots are just fascists. I don't have my boyfriend's scruples, so I went to Superdrug & lied- I said they were for my mum! - but they had run out.
Finally we got them from a company called Pharmacy4U, which I'm sure has a website (try Pharmacy4U.co.uk). After all that, though, we never use them any more! Maybe I will once I'm on maintenance. So don't worry too much about them :)
    Take care, Daisy

Thanks Daisy, I think I'll just do without them or try the website you suggested.
    Cheers
