    Help! Letting Diabetes kill me

    Hello Good People
    I haven't been here for a loooooong time because I had decided to throw caution to the wind and let my 'beetes run rampant
    I have now had 3 or 4 (can't remember exactly) AIC's that have been through the roof---latest one being 8.4 with Kidney damage. My Dr says I can expect to be on dialysis within 3-5 years if things don't drastically change.
    I am addicted to carbs and sweets----I can't sleep at night if I have not had a candy bar that day. I am the heaviest I have ever been at 257 lbs (was at 252 at diagnosis and at 225 at my lowest). The worst of it is, that I just don't seem to care
    Dr wants me to take 1000mgs of Glumetza twice a day (that insurance won't pay for---I have gastrointestinal issues with Metformin and inject 1.8 units of Victoza daily
    I hate life

    I am shocked the doctor does not have you on a larger dose of metformin but would you take it. Why not other meds or why not get out and walk. If you feel this is the route you want to take not much I can say other than do you test your blood sugars daily. I found when my bg was high I craved carbs, reason is my bg was sky high and my bodies cells were starving. This is part of why you crave carbs and then it just repeats itself.

    When I began reading your vent I got angry and then read further and realized that I did the same thing but wasn't honest enough with myself to admit it. I was taking more and more medication instead of trying to deal with diabetes with more effective measures first. Luckily I found this forum which led me to Low Carb High Fat way of eating. For me it's not a diet. I repeat it is not a diet. I don't count calories. I don't feel deprived. I am as you said addicted to sweets and carbs. This way of eating allows me to walk by doughnuts, chips, crackers, candy whatever people have on display in my office. Other members of my household eat bread, rice, pasta, fruit, etc. and I don't. I don't have some magical will power. I stopped or severely restricted my carbs and the desire or absolute driving need to eat them is gone. I don't eat them, I don't miss them and I don't feel the need to eat them. It's a wonderful feeling. It has helped me to loose weight and to get off some medications. Don't get me wrong it doesn't fix everything - I still have issues with boredom eating and now I think I may becoming a shopaholic instead of a carbaholic!
    Heed the warnings of Roxanne0312 and look into getting help. There are some great websites about lowcarbhighfat! Bacon and butter become your best friend guilt free!
