Amylin, a peptide hormone produced in the pancreas and in the brain, has well-established physiological roles in glycemic regulation and energy balance control. It improves postprandial blood glucose levels by suppressing gastric emptying and glucagon secretion; these beneficial effects have led to the FDA-approved use of the amylin analog pramlintide in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Amylin also acts centrally as a satiation signal, reducing food intake and body weight. The ability of amylin to promote negative energy balance, along with its unique capacity to cooperatively facilitate or enhan Continue reading >>

A1CNow home test meter by Bayer discontinued

I suspect you may have read this in Mendosa's newsletter but if you are using the home a1C test kit you should be aware that Bayer is stopping production, I suspect the refills will eventually become rare.

This is just wrong!! It doesn't make any sense to take this valuable tool away from diabetics. Especially those that don't have access to lab work. The Bayer Contour meters are cool, yes, I have one, but actually don't use it. I would trade it in a heart beat for the continuation of the A1c tests. Will stock up within reason but they only are good for a year.....
I use the Bayer A1c for in between lab tests. I liked the Bayer because I got immediate results. Guess I will have to go to the WalMart Relion and wait for mailed results or email which ever it is.

The A1CNow is more difficult to use and has more "equipment" than the Relion mail-in. I used the Bayer product once, and the Relion a couple times. I like it better, even though I have to mail it in and wait for the results, which last time was 3 days.

  • Difference Between Human Insulin And Insulin Analogues

Review question Are short-acting insulin analogues more useful than regular human insulin for adults with type 1 diabetes? Background Diabetes is a condition that causes a person's blood sugar (glucose) level to become too high. Insulin is a hormone that is released by the pancreas (a small organ behind the stomach); it controls the blood levels of glucose. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce any insulin so the person has to inject ...

  • Insulin Analogues Ppt

Insulin analogs are now replacing human insulin in the US. Insulins are categorized by differences in onset, peak, duration, concentration, and route of delivery. An analog refers to something that is “analogous” or similar to something else. Therefore, “insulin” analogs are analogs that have been designed to mimic the body’s natural pattern of insulin release. These synthetic-made insulins are called analogs of human insulin. However, ...

  • Insulin Analogues Advantages

Evidence for the use of insulin analogues In the last two decades, insulin analogues have gained widespread popularity, with most patients in the Western world using short-acting analogues rather than human (regular) insulin, and long-acting analogues driving out NPH insulin. While there are definitely some circumstances in which the insulin analogues may offer a benefit, many patients will do very well with the cheaper conventional insulins. Thu ...

  • What Is Glp 1 Analogues For Diabetes?

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists also known as GLP-1 receptor agonists or incretin mimetics are agonists of the GLP-1 receptor. This class of drugs is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.[1][2] One of their advantages over older insulin secretagogues, such as sulfonylureas or meglitinides, is that they have a lower risk of causing hypoglycemia.[3] There is some concern over the safety profile of these drugs due to proliferative eff ...
