when is a blood sugar level too high

I have just recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (as in five days ago) at age 23. The past two nights I have checked my sugars and the screen has read HI. What exactly does this mean? I once had a level of 512 so does this mean it is higher than that reading? Should i contact my doctor if I get a reading that says HI? sorry so many questions, but i'm still pretty confused about all of this. I am meeting with a diabetes educator tomorrow so hopefully it will make more sense then. Thanks

If your meter has given you readings "HI" for some time, then you need to call your doctor and let them know. He may have you go to the ER. With these high readings are you experiencing the same symptoms you had when they diagnosed you? The average for glucose levels is 70-110, but your doctor should have told you what a good goal was for you. Give your doctor a call tonight and let them know. It is not good to keep your numbers that high.
